Jim Croce and Maury Muheleisen |

This is Jim Croce and Maury Muheleisen, writers, performers. Jim and Maury are without a doubt the most profound influence of my music. Jim and his guitarist Maury Muhelheisen were killed in a plane crash in 1973. You can learn more about that on my Jim and Maury Tribute Page. I first heard Jim and Maury on a record in 1976 and after hearing them I had a friend show me some chords on an old guitar with a big hole in the side that someone had had given me free. I would never be the same again. From the moment I began to learn, I aspired to play like he did. Nothing to this day makes me more proud of something I've written than when someone says, "ya know, that sounds like Jim Croce music". I hope one day when I die, I'll get the chance to thank these guys for a love that has lasted me a lifetime. God only knows the music that was never to be because of their tragic deaths, but they did leave behind a legacy of treasured music such as; Time In A Bottle","Operator","Bad, Bad Leroy Brown and "Lovers Cross". The recording career lasted 3 years and the music is still selling strong neary 30 years later as many new generations are just discovering a music that is truely timeless. It was tragic to lose these guys at such an early age, Jim was only 30, Maury was even younger, but it's like Jim said in "Time In A Bottle", "There Never Seems To Be Enough Time To Do The Things You Wanna Do Once You Find Them". |

This is Me with Ray Boltz. I met Ray at a concert in 1988 on his "Honor and Glory" tour. Ray is a wonderful singer with a phenomenal writing talent. Ray is a contemporary christian musician who plays to sold out audiences world-wide. Before Mother Theresa passed away she requested just one song be played at her funeral, it was Ray Boltz, "Thank You". Ray went to the funeral where he performed that piece as requested. Ray is well known in christian circles for his warm and powerful pieces such as "The Anchor Holds", I've Come To Serve", "One Drop Of Blood", "Watch The Lamb" and the stirring "I Pledge Alliegance To The Lamb" which is given a standing ovation at nearly all performances and has come to be one of his main signature songs. But one of the things that makes Ray so great, is his accessability to the fans. When I met Ray, he had just given a 3 1/2 hour concert. I was second in line. The line stretched out into the hallway, around the concert hall and out into the parking area with literally 15,000 people there hoping to meet him. Ray told me he was going to stay until he had met each and all of the fans who came to see him that night. The love and warmth that Ray shows toward his fans is obviously reciprocated. So to Ray I would like to say in his own words from "Thank You"; Ray, "Thank you for giving to the Lord, I am the life that was changed". |
