Demon's Return

The Great Demons have returned. They have come with a greater weapon than was known or even understandable to the Thaine villagers.

The young girl, Yang, who saved the Thaine village the last time was far away from the village. She was being trained by her aging grandfather to become a better fighter. One day while on a cliff overlooking the sea, she had a premonition that the evil spirits have returned.

Yang rushed to tell her grandfather who was meditating under a willow tree. Before she could start, however, her grandfather spoke, "It is time that you leave."

Yang was stunned.

"In the shed beyond the kitchen, there is a great contraption that will help you reach your destination. This journey will be more difficult than the last. You must use all your intuition to help you." He looked up sadly and said, "I will not be here when you return. This fight will end your training."

Yang wanted to say something, but another flash of a demonic smile taunting her refrained her actions. She rushed off to the get ready for her journey.

She returned with a huge kite-looking apparatus that was set up on a projectile. Her grandfather helped her strap into the kite and before she could say goodbye, he released the kite.

With a sudden burst of speed, Yang was sent into the sky and it took her a few minutes before she got used to the bamboo controls. She tugged the controls further and the wind picked up the kite. She soared even higher and moved even faster. Amongst the clouds, she saw all the beauty around her and wondered whether Evil will ruin it.

It took her several hours of exhausting travel before she reached the edges of the Thaine forest that surrounded the Thaine village. She was shivering in the cold night, but she was fevered to get there. More premonition had shown her that the destruction was already began in the village.

She reached the Thaine Lake, a beautiful expanse of blue and silver and she longed to rest there. As the wind pushed her foward she reached past the two mountains that seemed to overlap, but opens up at the edge of the lake to see a prosperous village.

She stopped at the edge of the town and found herself alone. Where was everyone? Had they all been killed? Was she too late? Where were the corpses or where they all assimilated?

She ran up the stairs leading to the town hall and saw Mary. Rong looked very happy to see Yang and said, "What luck you have come?! The villagers have gathered in the Hanging Caves." Mary tugged Yang's sleeves, but Yang was doubtful.

"Why are they there?"

Mary said as she pulled Yang along, "You didn't know. Oh, well, Rong gathered everyone there saying that it was safer there." (Rong had grown up with Yang until Yang left for her training. They were never very good friends and in fact Yang always suspected Rong's popularity.)

"So you know the demons have returned." Yang asked.

Mary looked confused, "What demons? There is going to be a big, freak storm here. That's why we are hiding."

Yang pulled her arm away and said, "Look, I need to grab my things and I will join you later alright."

"But it's dangerous..." Before Mary could finish, Yang had hurried off.

Yang hid in bakery near the town square. She looked intently at the fountain where the Demons rose the last time. She was certain something was up and it wasn't just a storm. However, just to prove her wrong, the sky clouded up and an electric storm began. It was terrifying for her since she had never seen anything like this before.

"Damn, talking about a freak storm."

She watched the sky grow completely dark and and the moon and stars all disappeared. The village was held in some sort of mystical blanket. The fountain started to bubble and a few strikes of thunder caused the statue rupture. Bits of marble scattered around the town square.

Then the Demons rose. They were not in the solid form like they were the last time. They were ethereal and appeared to be mirages or objects of one's imagination.

It saddened her to see them, because they appeared to be the people that she once knew, except they had a demonic smile. They were the young men who had volunteered to fight the demons the first time.

She saw them all, each Demon. Tien, the smallest one, stepped out first. A strike of lightening showed the ugly demon that wore his body. Mike, the one who had been so excited about the fight, stood up next. The lightening that hit him made his body grow bigger and his fangs flashed in the light. Myles, stood up and looked almost directly at Yang. She shivered as she noticed that the same smile were there, but the eyes were dark beads. Lightening gave him pointy spikes that spelled doom to anyone who comes close. Then two heads came out together, Johnny and Aaron faced each other smiled. The lightening hit them simultaneously and their body fused to make a gigantic monster. On and on, the Demons stepped out.

Yang wondered how she was going to handle them all? Her confidence was gone. She wouldn't be fighting Demons only, but Demons that looked like her friends.

When all the Demons have gathered, there was some twenty monsters. They were enjoying their liberation and every time the lightening hit them, they grew bigger and stronger.

Yang stealthily sneaked out by the bakery's trap door and followed the secret tunnels to the Hanging Caves. She realized that all her weapons were still hanging from her kite. There was no time to get to them now.

She ran into Rong first at the entrance of the cave. There was a strange look in Rong's eyes. They seemed reddish, but Yang couldn't be sure in the dim light.

"There you are. Mary just told us you have come for a visit." Rong said.

"Yes. Everyone. Let's get ready." Yang told all the people huddling in the cave.

"For what?" Yang wasn't sure if Heather or Shannon asked.

"Because the Demons have returned. They have got some kind of outside help because they aren't supposed to be able to escape from their hell." Yang said as she looked at Rong. Yang wasn't sure if the flash of light she saw in Rong's eyes was from the flickering torches.

"Well, if the Demons can't escape, then they can't possibly be here." Rong answered.

"They are here. They are probably going to tear the village apart, but they will find this cave." Suddenly, Yang realized that this was the last place they should be hiding in. There was no way for the villagers to escape if the the demons came this way. Aside from the secret tunnels, the only other way out meant falling off the cliff into the depth of the Thaine village.

"You all have to get out of there." Yang told everyone.

A whisper came very close behind her, "Yang, it's too late."

Yang whirled around to see Mike smiling at her. By pure reflex, Yang did a fast push against his chest. Mike wasn't prepared and stumbled back, but jumped back almost immediatedly. It was hard for Yang to pick up the torch near her hand and stick it right into Mike's stomach. Instead of being wounded, Mike obviously enjoyed the fire.

Yang had almost forgotten he was a demon now. They liked fire. They needed cold. So she fell back as Mike's claws tried to slash her to death. In the process, she was wounded, but nevertheless she led Mike to the edge of cave. With a quick step, Mike fell off the cliff into the lake.

She turned back breathing very hard. She looked at the villagers. They all seem bewildered.

"Help me. If he found this place so soon, the others will follow." Yang said.

Jeremy stepped out of the shadow and touched her shoulder. "Yang, are you okay? What's this "he" you are talking about?"

"What do you mean? Didn't you just see Mike?" Yang asked.

Everyone looked sad as though sympathizing with a friend going crazy. Some were shaking their head. Yang was bewildered, "You have to be able to see him. Didn't you see me lead Mike towards the opening of the cave and he fell to the lake?"

Heather stepped forward and said, "Yang, Mike died months ago. Remember? He sacrificed his life for the village."

Shannon and Mary came forward too, and led a very agitated Yang to the corner of the cave. Shannon said, "Look, maybe the pressure of fighting is getting to you. We know you are the only one who returned alive. And I guess maybe the demons are still with you..."

Out of the corner of her eyes, Yang saw Myles's sinister smile and he was pointing his fins towards the side of Shannon's waist. Yang jumped out of Shannon and Mary's gentle hold, and punched Myles. It didn't even phase him.

In a thick voice, he said, "I won't be so easy to kill. Ha Ha ha ha."

Before Yang had a chance to do anything else, she felt someone's head ram into her back. She fell to the wet ground of the cave. She turned only fast enough to see Tien laughing hysterically. The sound was so loud, yet no one in the cave seemed to notice.

Yang cried out, "Can none of you see them?"

Shannon was rushing foward to help restrain Yang, but Myles stepped in the way. Yang knew how dangerous it could be and popped up on her feet and ran to push Myles out of the way.

Shannon looked sadly at Yang as Yang tried to push Myles off the edge. Where was those special powers her grandfather had taught her? She pushed her palms together long enough to sense the force between them. She turned her palms towards Myles and a flash of power bursted from her palm. They pushed Myles straight off the edge of the cliff.

Yang turned around to see that Tien was jumping back with joy and said, "Haha. I am faster than you. You won't be able to push me off the edge."

Yang realized she must use the last move that her grandfather was explaining. She hadn't even practiced the kick yet, but it was the only thing she could hope to defeat the lightening fast speed that the smaller Tien had. Impulsively, she just tried that kick, and miraculously it worked. Her thoughts were stronger than reality.

Knowing that her thoughts could help her now, she tried valiantly and defeated all of the monsters that found their way, one by one, or two, into the cave. When the last of the monsters have disappeared off the cliff. She realized that the cuts on her body needed tending to.

Everyone in the cave wanted to take her away, and Rong said, "Yes, Yang isn't feeling so well. We all saw how she jerked about the cave of the last hour. She must have been struck by lightening during the storm."

Yang was backed into the corner, and she defended herself, "Like hell. I am fine. You guys are supposed to be my friends. Trust me!"

But everyone saw Yang curling in the corner and saw a fallen heroine. Shannon and Heather reached out to help Yang up. She saw Mary's face turned away. Jeremy looked as though he pitied her. Many of the other familiar faces looked equally sad, but no one believed her.

When Shannon pulled Yang towards one of the secret entrances, a figure in the shadows showed up. It was Eric. Yang grimaced as Shannon accidentally touched one of Yang's wounds. Shannon of course couldn't see it. Eric saw the look on Yang's face.

He looked to the place where her hand held her wound. His eyes flashed up at her and there was recognition.

"Damn it, why can't you see she's actually hurt?"

He rushed over and pulled Yang away from Shannon's hold. He looked at the Yang's shirt as though he saw the blood stains that Yang saw. Shannon, Heather, and some of the other people were beginning to see the blood dripping from the wounds all over Yang's body.

Rong looked very upset, and said very loudly, "What wound? She must have hurt herself while she was jerking around."

Mary walked towards Yang and said, "I see them. I see her wounds. I don't care how she got them. We should tend to the wounds first." With that a good number of people came over to help Yang.

Rong push past the crowd and said, "Can't you see she's crazy? She's snapped. We should lock her up before she decides we are one of the demons."

Yang looked up weakly now and saw the feverish light in Rong's eyes and realized that she was the traitor. Rong must have summoned the Demons. Yang lifted her palm and with a last burst of energy from her heart, she sent Rong flying to the walls of the cave, and Yang passed out.

Many hours later, Yang woke up next to the stream leading fromt he Thaine lake to the village. Shannon and Heather were on either side of her.

"Hey she's awake!" Heather said.

Yang looked at Heather, but couldn't really move anything or ask any questions.

Over the next few days, Yang learnt what happened in the end. After she had passed out, Rong had gotten up. She was reading some strange spell, and everyone saw the crazy red lights in her eyes. The Demons were being summonned back to life and lifting out of the lake water.

At that time, Eric realized he must finish off Yang's work, and took Rong by surprise and pushed Rong off the edge of the cliff. Unfortunately, Rong tried to catch old of Eric, and Eric fell into the lake as well. Being the only actual human, Eric's spirit freed the bodies of the other Demons. While the Demon's spiritd and Rong's evil spirit were zapped back to the cold Demond hell.

After the storm passed, the villagers left the cave and they wondered how they were going to save Yang who was severly wounded. Mary went out for some water and found the stream covered with rose petals, and as she followed the stream the lake, she saw the bodies of the dead young men lying there.

Apparently, Eric's death brought all the other young men back to life, and the lake turned into a healing lake. That way the reason Yang woke by the river as Shannon and Heather were bathing Yang's wounds with the healing water.

Many people were happy now that their friends, their loved ones, had all come back to life and in their human form. After Yang had recovered, she picked up some of the petals from the lake and left Thaine again.
