This is the true home of golf and Mecca for virtually everyone who has ever dreamed of playing golf. They migrate from every corner of the globe in the hope that they will be lucky enough to tread the ground of the fabled Old Course. Many say it is the most famous course in existence. A daily ballot is drawn to see who will play the course out of those who do not have the big wallet to get a pre-reserved time. Others will have paid a hefty premium for the privilege of arriving in golf's capital with a pre-reserved visitor time. Unfortunately, many will be disappointed and never get to play this piece of hallowed ground because the demand to play the Old Course outstrips the availability of visitor times by a significant margin that only increases from month to month. 1819 is the first known reference in history to a professional golf tournament.
