Permanent Place

I had a dream, a dream of you. We were walking arm in arm next to a river. At times this river was churning, others it was like a babbling, laughing brook. As we walked, we talked about how life had been before you left. We talked of the happy times, we talked of the sad. Through all of this, you were there holding my hand. As we talked of sad times, my eyes would fill with tears, but just as they started to spill, you would squeeze my hand and make me laugh by reminding me of some happy day. Just as you had been there in life to chase away the goblins and ghosts, you were there to chase away the tears. It was just as I had imagined, this dream, but then you said you had to go, this time when I started to cry, there were no happy memories to comfort. Instad, you said, "I'll miss you, but we'll meet again. I hope you miss me." As I replied, "Of course I'll miss you, I've never stopped." You turned and walked away, and to your disappearing figure, I called, "Until we meet again, my friend, I will dream of you. I'll love you forever." I hope you heard my parting words. My promise of a permanent place in my heart.
