The Movie 2 "The Sealed Card"

Synopsis created by Ito Nobutoshi.

Everything in [] is my comment. This is an unedited version and plenty of typographic and grammatical errors are expected.

The movie starts at a deserted western-style house. It is being demolished and, with no one around at night, looks like a haunted house. Then suddenly something causes a small explosion within the house and a mysterious card is seen illuminating under the half-destroyed floor.

Title

Sakura is fighting against monsters with Cerberus and Yue. They are pretty tough and powerful but she eventually beat them all with the help of her two guardians.

The battle is in fact a video compiled by Tomoyo. She has been watching it in her room with Sakura and Kero. She is very pleased with the outcome but Sakura is rather embarrassed with her enthusiasm, "It's even with music." "I added it, of course." Kero is impressed by himself on the screen and restarts it all over again. Now that Eriol is gone, there is no more trouble in Tomoeda. Frustrated with the lack of opportunity to see Sakura in battle costumes, Tomoyo had asked Sakura to let her take this video. Even the monsters were made up by a Clow Card, Create.

The battle scene on the video is over and Shaoran appears on the screen. The scene is from an old battle against a Clow Card, which Tomoyo left unedited on the tape by accident. His image and voice make Sakura blush. She says to Tomoyo, "You knew how he thought of me, right? It was only me who didn't." Tomoyo tells her that her innocence is one of her charms. Sakura feels a little guilty because she hasn't answer to him. Because he said it to her directly, she wants to answer so, too, not by phone or a letter.

Next morning, Sakura wakes up late. The summer vacation has made her even more of a late riser but she has to go to school today to practice a play. Her class is going to play at the Nadeshiko Festival of Tomoeda Town. Asked by Kero what role she is going to play, she shyly tells him, "The princess." Kero is very pleased to hear it and looks forward to seeing the play.

She comes downstairs, where her father and brother greet her as usual. Fujitaka is naturally looking forward to the play but Touya only makes his usual cynical comment, "With a play where a monster is the heroine, the Nadeshiko Festival may fail utterly." He himself will help a tea parlor of his college at the festival, with Yukito. Hearing so, Sakura really wants to go to it to see him.

Sakura arrives at the school slightly late. The other students have already started practice but no one blames her for her delay. Naoko, who wrote and directs the play, tells her some changes have made to the scenario. Sakura immediately joins Yamazaki, who plays the prince, to practice the scene. It is where the prince confesses his love to the princess. Obviously the scene reminds Sakura of someone else.

On their way home, Sakura tells Tomoyo how difficult for her to act. The kindhearted girl assures her that she is doing fine and improving everyday. They come across a poster of Tomoeda Yuuen, a new theme park. It is being built on the top of the hill, where Eriol's house was, and will open shortly. Tomoyo suggests to have a look after school tomorrow and Sakura cheerfully agrees.

Sakura practices her lines in her room in the evening. "I want to see him. I want to see him to tell my true feeling..." Her thoughts fly to Shaoran.

In the mean time, a young girl [who looks like one of those card characters] occupies the top of the main tower of Tomoeda Yuuen and looks down over the entire town.

Sakura and Tomoyo come to Tomoeda Yuuen next day. It is not opened yet and the place is deserted. Suddenly Sakura senses something strange and starts running through the park in search of its cause. Turning a corner, she bumps into someone. To her great surprise, it is Shaoran. Meiling turns up after him, too.

The four come down to the Penguin Park. Meiling tells Sakura that they have just arrived in Japan. They hadn't told it to her as they wanted to give her a surprise. Meiling and Shaoran will stay for a while and will be able to watch the play at the festival. Then Meiling lowers her voice so that Shaoran won't hear her; "What I said to you in my last letter is true. I've broken off my engagement with Shaoran." She pretends that she doesn't know who Shaoran loves and tells Sakura she wish "the girl" will answer soon.

In the mean time, Shaoran chats with Tomoyo. He wants to know if it was her who suggested Meiling to come to Japan over e-mails. She admits it and asks him if the idea didn't suit him. Of course Shaoran wanted to see Sakura but was afraid it would put Sakura in trouble. "Now she will feel forced to answer to me."

Meiling tells that she and Shaoran are going to stay with Tomoyo while they are in Japan. Hearing this, Sakura suggests them to have supper together at her home. Meiling cannot accept the invitation because she has things to do with Tomoyo. She winks at Tomoyo, who immediately understands what she means and tells the same to Sakura. Meiling asks Sakura to invite Shaoran to supper instead.

So Sakura comes home only with Shaoran. It is obvious, being two alone, both are feeling rather uneasy. She offers tea and cake first. Sakura tries to put some sugar in tea for him but he says he can do it himself. As expected ^_^;; they turn the sugar bowl over and her hand touches his. This sends their tension to the maximum and Sakura decides to tell her feelings. "Shaoran-kun, I... I..."

But the crucial moment is spoiled by a rude intruder. Kero flies into the room, having smelled the cake. Kero is a little surprised to see Shaoran but the cake is more important. "You two were going to enjoy the cake without telling me!?" Sakura escapes the scene, saying she must prepare for supper. Shaoran makes a sarcastic comment about Kero's greed. Kero transforms into his real figure and stamps on him in revenge.

In the kitchen Sakura is recovering from her earlier tension. Her heart thumped so hard she felt as if she was going to choke. Yet she is not disheartened. She is very grateful to see Shaoran again and will not let the opportunity pass her.

Sakura's spaghetti satisfies both Kero and Shaoran. Kero leaves the room to go to bed. He has been playing the video game all the day and his eyes are really tired. But he does not forget to warn them, "If you do have dessert, don't forget calling me!"

Kero's departure means another chance for Sakura to tell her feeling... only for a moment. This time Touya comes home with Yukito. Touya doesn't try to hide his hostility toward Shaoran and another chance is gone.

Sakura sees Shaoran off at the gate. He says he will come to the school tomorrow, which pleases her a lot. Touya remains unhappy and becomes a good target for Yukito to tease.

In Sakura's room, where Kero is sleeping, something strange happens. One of the Sakura Card, Change, leaves the pack and flies out of the room into the sky. Neither Kero or Sakura, who is still at the gate in a pensive mood, is aware of it. The card flies to the Tomoeda Yuuen, where the small girl welcomes it.

Next day the boys and girls of the class are pleased to see Shaoran and Meiling back. Yamazaki notices that he has grown a little taller. Meiling isn't too happy because Sakura apparently failed to tell her feeling last evening. But to Tomoyo, it only means she might be able to film the crucial moment with her recorder. Sakura arrives the classroom and the practice starts for the day.

On their way home, Meiling mounts another attempt to put pressure on Sakura. She speaks of the princess in the play, "What a stupid princess she is!" She thinks the princess should answer to him immediately. Sakura, too innocent to notice her message, can only smile in trouble.

The weather is so hot Sakura suggests them to get some juice. She has found a nice shop recently. She runs up the hill cheerfully but stops at the top confusedly. If she remembers right, she should turn the corner with a postbox but cannot find one. Tomoyo cannot tell if there was a postbox around there. Although Sakura remains confused, they decided to move on. None of them, however, notices the base of the postbox is there as if its top has been cut off with a sharp knife.

Sakura comes home, where Kero is playing a video game as usual. He makes a new record in the game. He suggests Sakura to write a letter to Eriol because he wants to boast his score to Spinel. There seems to be a strange rivalry between them.

So she decides to write to Eriol in her bed while Kero is peacefully sleeping next to her, with his letter to Spinel in his arms. She tells Eriol that she is going to play as the princess, that a new theme park is being built where he used to live, and that Shaoran and Meiling are here for holiday. Thoughts of Shaoran guide her into a happy sleep. Soon after she falls asleep, however, another card leaves the pack and flies away.

Next day the students rehearse the play at school wholeheartedly. Sakura is one of them although her attention occasionally gets diverted towards a certain boy.

On their way home, Meiling takes Tomoyo away with her, leaving Sakura and Shaoran alone again. Sakura tries to tell her feeling again but this time a big rabbit interrupts her. It is Touya in a rabbit costume for the festival. Touya obviously did it on purpose. Yukito apologises to the couple and says he and Touya will buy ice-cream for them, including Tomoyo and Meiling, who come back at Sakura's scream.

They come to the square on the main street to have ice-cream. Sakura sits next to Yukito, who asks her if she has found "the best one" for her. Sakura happily tells him she has but admits she hasn't told her feeling to the boy. Yet she assures him that she will.

Then another card escapes her bag and flies away. This time Sakura feels strange and opens her bag to check her belongings. Yet she fails to notice loss of her cards.

Sakura, Shaoran, Tomoyo and Meiling walk through the park to home. Sakura asks Shaoran if he sensed something strange at the square. He didn't. So Sakura concludes she was only imagining things but something strange does happen in front of them. A bridge over a small river in the park is gone, as if cut with a sharp round knife.

Sakura tells Kero about the incident in her room. Kero cannot think of any cause for such a mysterious event now that all the Clow cards have been collected and Eriol has left. Then Meiling rings up. She suggests to go to the Tomoeda Yuuen tomorrow as they don't practice the play.

So the four come to the theme park next day. This is another attempt by Meiling to give Sakura a chance. They have a wonderful time but Shaoran looks a little pensive, which makes his cousin more blatant; Meiling now wants to get in the Ferris wheel with Tomoyo. Sakura and Shaoran have no choice but goes in the same gondola.

Neither Sakura nor Shaoran speaks in the gondola. While Shaoran appears to be content watching the scenery, Sakura remains extremely tense. Soon their gondola reaches the top and now begins to go down. This may have made Sakura think time is running out; she finally speaks to Shaoran. "Shaoran-kun, I..., you know, I..."

Then another card flies away from her bag into the sky. This time both of them sense it and start chasing its feel as soon as they get off the gondola, leaving bewildered Meiling and Tomoyo behind.

They end up at a mirror house and enter it without hesitation. Both are feeling a Clow card. But why? Sakura has surely captured all of them! Then they see the small girl and chase her. It turns out that the girl stands on the other side of the mirror. Shaoran suggests Sakura to use Through to catch her but the Sakura finds out the card is missing. Then the girl speaks to them, "Give my friends back to me." Three more cards flies from her bag into the mirror. Sakura tries to attack the girl with Wood, which turns out to be powerless before the girl and be taken over. Perhaps satisfied, the girl vanishes.

Sakura reports the incident to Kero in the evening. He has no idea who the girl can be. Then the phone rings. It is from Eriol in England. He has sensed that that Clow's house has been demolished and Clow's 53rd card, sealed beneath the house, has been activated. [The name of the card, Void, is never given in the film except in the ending credit. But I will use it to make things clearer] No one, except Clow himself, knew its existence and the card has never been used. All the Clow cards have a positive power to create something but this particular one has a power to negate everything. Clow created this troublesome card to stabilise enormous power of his positive card. Kero immediately understands the idea comes from Chinese Yin-Yan. He also realises a far more important fact, "You mean the sealed card is as powerful as the other 52 cards put together!?"

Eriol continues to explain the situation. The balance between the two powers has been broken as all the positive cards became the Sakura cards. Sakura now knows the girl she saw in the mirror house is Void. Eriol asks Sakura if things around her have gone missing, her cards and part of the town. She remembers with a shock that the postbox and bridge have gone. He confirms her fear; "Every time she get a Sakura card, something near you will be lost, the town and people..." Eriol's phone set suddenly emits a dim light. Kaho, who has been sitting next to him with Nakuru and Spinel, urges him to hurry up. Eriol tells Sakura that, if she can convert Void into a Sakura card, the balance will be restored and everything will return to normal. But to do so, one's most cherished feeling must be sacrificed. Kero wants to know exactly whose. "The card will choose. The one with the biggest magic power." Suddenly the line gets disconnected. Void must have recognised Eriol and erased the cable. Kaho asks him if he knows how this trouble will end. He doesn't.

It rains next day but the rain does not dampen the enthusiasm of the young actors and actresses. Sakura and her classmates do the final rehearsal at school. Sakura's act impresses Terada and other students. The Festival is tomorrow.

After the rehearsal, Sakura tells Shaoran about her conversation with Eriol, which naturally surprises him, "Did he say what to do?" Sakura tells him how to solve the case... and its cost. At the final judgment by Yue, she saw a world where love is lost. It was unbearable and she doesn't want to see such a world ever again! To her great surprise, Shaoran takes it calmly. "If there is no other way, it can't be helped." Sakura cannot accept his words and the truth in them and runs away in the heavy rain.

As she runs blindly, she bumps into Yukito, who doesn't fail to notice her tears. He takes her to the Penguin Park and asks her what has happened. Seeing her reluctant to talk, he gently offers, "Is the other me a better person for you to talk to? He says he is really worried." Then Yukito transforms into Yue, who immediately insists, "I didn't say 'really.'"

Having heard Sakura's trouble, Yue strongly sympathises with her, "Why do you, of all the people, have to suffer always?" Sakura is pretty calm now and knows it is not only her but everyone is suffering..., including Shaoran. Yue tells her that Clow wouldn't have created a card which would only cause troubles to the world. There must be other ways to solve the problem, without losing one's most cherished feeling.

It is the day of Nadeshiko Festival at last. Everybody of the town enjoys this special day. But the girls of Sakura's class are a little nervous before their play. Meiling, Tomoyo and Kero tries to console Sakura without much success. Then yet another card flies away from Sakura's bag. As Eriol warned, a big void sphere appears in the school ground, erasing everything within. To prevent a panic, Sakura activates Sleep but its power lasts only for seconds. Although she manages to repulse Void, Yamazaki gets injured when he fell under the power of Sleep. His injury is more than he can endure and Terada and some students suggest to cancel the play. But he knows who can take his place, "You can, Li-kun."

The show starts on the main stage in the evening. First Tomoyo enchants the audience with her songs while others girls are busy fitting a costume on Meiling. She is going to join the play as a lady-in-waiting. Sakura is in a dressing room with Kero. He warns her that, because Void attacked her at school, there is no reason why it wouldn't do so again here today. Tomoyo rushes into the room. She is determined to lose no time to give a final touch to make her dear friend a princess. Kero wonders how it can be so important to her. Tomoyo's answer is clear, "Everyone has his own priority. We must live everyday not to regret later." Her words seem to have brought something to Sakura.

The show is about to start. Fujitaka arrives the theatre just in time and dodges through the audience to find a seat, which happens to be one next to Nozomi. He is sorry to miss Tomoyo's song but her mother has made it sure the scene is recorded on video. The mother of the video otaku is certainly another one herself and appalled to see Fujitaka has brought only a small camera on this special occasion of his daughter. "Oh dear..., all right, I'll make a copy of mine for you." With a click, her bodyguards in black are ready to film the play with professional equipments.

The play finally starts. It is a masquerade. The princess comes into the scene guided by her ladies-in-waiting, who believe she needs to refresh herself with fun to recover from on-going conflict with the neighboring country over "the magic stone." But the princess is not too keen as she is not a good dancer. One of the ladies assures her that the best way to learn dance is to dance with a gentleman who is good at it.

Urged by her maids, she walks into the ring of dance. But she doesn't feel like dancing with someone she doesn't know. Also whereabout of the magic stone casts a shadow over her heart. It is said to bestow a mystery power on its owner and her country has been long fighting against the neighbour for its possession. The princess hates the conflict and thinks it is better if the stone vanishes completely.

A gentleman (Shaoran) agrees with her. She wants to know who he is but he gently reproved her for her deed unsuitable for a masquerade. She admits this is her first appearance and, to her relief, he has never been to one, either. His men, who are concerned about his low spirit, have brought him here. Similar circumstances brings them closer and the princess agrees to dance with him.

The dance of the couple is probably the most beautiful scene of the play and enchants all the audience, including Fujitaka and Nozomi. Well not "all" maybe. Touya and Yukito arrives at the theatre and the dance of her daughter with the "bustard" is the last thing he wanted to see ^_^;;

The play moves on to the scene where the princess finds out "the gentleman" is the price of her neighbouring country hostile to hers. The prince is brave enough to ignore politics, "I love you." The princess is, however, less adventurous. After much hesitation, she says, "I cannot accept your love." "You don't like me?" "Yes! I... I... Please forget me! Please erase me from your heart!"

Then the lights over the stage blow off. It is an attack by Void. Sakura cannot do anything but only sees her favourite people, including her classmates and Touya, vanish. She is determined to go out to get them back!! Shaoran wants to come with her. Tomoyo comes in with her hand-made costumes, "then wear this." Meiling thinks this is not the time to go with Tomoyo's hobby but the costume is far more important to Tomoyo. "Sakura-chan, you have never failed to come back to me with a smile in my costume. So come back here again in this one." Sakura is touched and promises she will come back with the costume she made for her. Tomoyo hands another costume to Shaoran, "It is not a good idea to sacrifice oneself. Help Sakura-chan in this costume... and let me take you two in my video after the battle." Shaoran replies gently but with determination, "I will."

Sakura and others come to the top of a building in the town center. The view of the devastated town dismays Cerberus. Shaoran knows the card is somewhere within the town but no one knows exactly where. Then another void sphere attacks them. Sakura responds with Windy but even the card, one of the four fundamental elements, is powerless before Void. In the end the sphere takes Tomoyo and Meiling away. But the battle is not completely fruitless. Cerberus and Yue now know where Void is. It is where Windy has flown to; Tomoeda Yuuen. There are only five cards left to Sakura and she has to face Void only with them.

They fly to Tomoeda Yuuen. It is deserted... no, suddenly all the machines get activated and the lights are lit up. Then horses of the carrousel become alive and starts to attack them. Yue and Cerberus beat them off without much trouble but it is obvious Void now takes the control of the entire park.

Sakura uses Jump to jump up on the rail of the roller coaster but only for the coaster to storm on her. Just before it runs over her, she activates Time to stop it. Then Void comes to the scene, floating the sky in a black sphere. While Shaoran warns Sakura that the power of Time is running out, she faces Void and wants to know why the girl is committing such an atrocity. But Void does not answer. She takes Jump and says, "Four to go." Time finally loses its power and the coaster his Sakura. Kero barely saves from falling down to the earth.

Seeing there is no hope of negotiation, Yue and Cerberus attack Void but get erased by it. Shaoran understands why, "Even the guardians of the cards were created by Clow. Nothing that was created by him will not able to stands against Void." Leaving Sakura who is almost in panic behind, Shaoran confronts Void for himself. His talismans and power are not from Clow and may be effective. He chases Void, who enters a gondola of the ferris wheel. He tries his thunder attack, which certainly has some effect on Void but not enough to beat it. Void shouts, "Don't get in my way!!" and another black sphere appears in the space around Shaoran. Sakura uses Fly to rescue him but is a touch too late. She loses his sight.

Sakura is now left alone but has not given up. She chases Void, who floats away to the main tower. But soon her two more cards are taken away by Void. Sakura barely escapes from the attack with her last card, Shield. But even it is taken away by Void, who smiles with satisfaction, "I've got all of them." Sakura still insists she will seal Void and return everyone to normal. For the first time, Void shows her emotion, "I've been always alone... Confined in a dark cold place, I was so lonely. Now that I've got all my friends back, why do you get in my way!?" But Sakura doesn't think she is right, "That's not what friends are! Getting someone by force is definitely not friendship!" As if responding to Sakura's word, all the Sakura cards free themselves from Void's sphere and now surrounds the sphere instead. Void is shocked to see this and collapses into tears, "Why!? Am I not your friend!?" Now the cards aligns themselves to make a bridge between Sakura and Void. Sakura steps on it and approaches the weeping girl with a gentle look. "Don't worry. Let's join them."

Void finally drops her guard so that Sakura can seal her. "Return to the shape where you should be, Clow Card!" Sakura knows this is only the easiest part of the job; she has to convert it into her card. She shows a really sad look for a moment, "After all, I couldn't tell him my feeling." But she is determined to complete her duty, "You, Card created by Clow, drop your old form and revive under the name of your new master, Sakura!"

Sakura prepares for the fatal moment to lose her most precious feeling but the magic storm from Void attacks someone next to her. It is Shaoran, "Thank Goodness, just in time..." He is chosen by the card because Sakura has been using much of her magic power today, summoning so many cards. Shaoran is now surrounded by a black sphere and yet bravely tells Sakura with a shy smile, "Even if I am to lose this love, I'll come to love you again, Sakura." Now the conversion is over and Sakura collapses into tears.

She isn't aware that her last card, the one she created herself, has flown out of her pocket and merged with the magic storm. Sakura hears a gentle whisper, "Don't cry. He's all right." To her surprise, Void appears on the card and the card, which has been nameless, has now its name written on itself, Hope.

Now everything should go back to what it used to be... except Shaoran. She looks at him standing a little away from her. Sakura knows it is too late but finally tells her true feeling to Shaoran. "You may not care me a bit now but I don't mind. I love you. You're my No.1!" As soon as she finishes her words, she bursts into tears. But a gentle voice answers her, "You're mine, too." He didn't lose his feeling!!

While the entire town, including Sakura's favourite people, gradually recovers from the effect of Void, Sakura cannot wait for a moment. Even though Shaoran tries to stop her so hard, she jumps across a gap of wall made by Void between her and Shaoran into his arms, "I really love you!!"
