At Stablemate, we use the experience derived from 45 years of devotion to all things canine to produce Aussies that conform to our motto of "sound minds in a sound body"
While our experience with Aussies is limited, we have produced multiple champions in our original breed; Dalmatians, as well as our second breed, Bernese Mountain Dogs. Mom(Sylvia) Howison has served in various capacities in the parent clubs in these breeds. She chaired the breed standard committee in both breeds and was an AKC judge for both.
She began judging Aussies 25 years ago for both ASCA and AKC events. Daughter, Mary, frequently went along to serve as steward. She fell in love with the breed and acquired her first Aussie in 1987. "Bill" was with Mary for 17 years, firmly in charge of the household the entire time.
Following her father's death in 1999 Mary combined households with Mom and decided to begin breeding Aussies. Following the advice given to new breeders, Mary set out to find the best brood bitch available. Her search led her to Terry Morgan and ASCA Ch Namie's Glory Days. Mary drove from Michigan to Kansas to see this bitch and fell in love and purchased her.
It was a good decision and the groundwork for Stablemate Australian Shepherds was laid.
A seach for a suitable mate led to Sunday Miles, of Countrywood Kennel, a long time Aussie fancier. Our first litter was named in Sunday's honor. Go to their pages for information. For information on pups currently go to the puppy page.
