Giving the document one last look Giles signed his name with a flourish. Then putting it to one side and picking up another he sighed, four down a dozen more to go. Not that he was complaining really, if they wanted to buy the old school and turn it into an academy for the Slayers the correct forms had to be completed. Looking at the remaining forms though, he did wish that there weren't so many of them. Oh well, the devil made work for idle hands. Giles had just completed the seventh of them when a knock at his office door made him pause. "Come in," he called. A moment later the door opened just wide enough to allow Willow to poke her inside. "Hi Giles," she said. "Can I talk to you about something?"
"Of course you can Willow," he replied glad of the respite. "Come on in, have a seat" he looked around his cluttered office and smiled "if you can find one."
Closing the door behind her Willow entered and after moving some books off the only other chair in the room sat herself down. "It's a bit small," she said looking around.
Giles shrugged. "Maybe not as big as I'm used to but it's more than adequate."
"It could do with a new coat of paint as well."
She was right but he was certain she was just stalling. Whatever it was she wanted to talk him about must be difficult for her. "So did you come here to talk about interior design or have you got something else on your mind?" he asked gently.
Willow smiled but it was a couple minutes before she spoke. "You know I would never consider going behind Buffy's back."
"But…" He knew there had to be one.
"Buffy's wrong."
"In regards to what?"
"In regards to Dawn and magic. I know Buffy wants to protect Dawn but her unbending attitude is going to do more harm than good. Dawn is going to learn magic no matter what she says. And that Buffy can't see it is the problem."
Giles nodded. He had known this problem was going to have to be dealt with sooner or later. He hadn't imagined that it would be this soon though. "What do you suggest?"
"That I should teach her" she looked over shoulder guiltily "in secret. At least for a while."
"So when do you intend to tell Buffy?" Giles agreed something had to done but this subterfuge made him feel somewhat uncomfortable.
Willow shrugged. "I don't know but I can tell you this for sure Giles with no one to guide her Dawn is only going to become a danger to herself and others. Look at the fire, next time she might not be so lucky."
Giles had to admit that Willow made a compelling case but he was still reluctant to agree if it meant deceiving Buffy. "Is there no other way?"
"Can you think of one because I can't?"
Unfortunately he couldn't. "Ok but I'm not happy about it."
Willow looked far from happy about it as well. "I'm not even sure if it should be me doing the teaching."
"Why not?"
Willow sighed heavily. "My history with magic isn't all sweetness and light."
Giles gave her a stern look. "Don't be silly Willow, there's no one else I would rather have teach her," he assured her.
She smiled at him gratefully. "Thanks Giles and who knows maybe she'll go off the idea after a few lessons."
That was a vain hope he was certain. "When will you start?"
"I think the sooner the better."

"So what do you think?" Willow asked.
Dawn was lost for words. With a happy little cry she threw her arms around the surprised witch and hugged her tightly. She thought it was amazing.
"Erm hello, breathing becoming bit of an issue here," Willow commented a minute or so later.
Slightly embarrassed Dawn released her and stepped back. "Sorry," she said with a smile.
"That's ok sweetie," Willow told her with a smile of her own. "So I take it you like that idea then?"
"Oh yes."
"There can be no more doing magic on your own though," Willow told her. "Not until I decide that you're ready."
Dawn didn't care she was just happy that she had agreed to teach her. "Of course," she agreed, "whatever you say."
"I mean it Dawn." She wasn't smiling anymore. "Any more mistakes like the one the other night and the lessons will be over."
Dawn nodded. "I understand." The other night had been one of the worst of her life and the last thing she wanted was for something similar to happen again. "What'll happen if Buffy finds out?"
Willow expression was grim. "She'll have both our guts for garters."
"Why doesn't she want me to learn magic anyway?"
"You mean apart from me getting juiced up on it, flaying Warren and then trying to destroy the world?" The redheaded Scoobie shrugged. "I don't know really."
Well there was that, Dawn supposed, if you wanted to concentrate on the bad things. Why didn't her sister ever think of the good things that magic could do? Oh well Dawn hadn't given up trying to understand how her sister thought and anyway enough about Buffy. "When can we start?" she asked, unable to keep the eagerness
from her voice. Willow's laughter was gentle. "Let's hope your enthusiasm endures. We can have a quick lesson now if you like?"

An hour later Dawn left Willow's room her first official lesson in magic complete. It hadn't been exactly what she had imagined it would be, Willow had spent much of the time talking about nature and balance, but she was still happy. She was willing to start with the basics if she had to. In fact she was willing to put up with a lot
to become as powerful a witch as Willow.
Dawn's room was only a short distance a long the corridor from the one Willow shared with Kennedy and it wasn't long before she was there. She was just about to enter when something, someone actually, caught her attention.
As was her want Faith looked more like a tart than a slayer, with her tight leather trousers hugging every curve and her low cut top revealing a daring amount of cleavage. Which in itself wasn't suspicious but she did seem to be somewhat distracted and, remembering the other night at the party, Dawn decided to follow. Staying as close as she dared Dawn trailed the dark haired slayer cautiously, firstly out of the old school and then across the grounds towards the sparse woodland to the east. That Faith hadn't seen her just increased Dawn's curiosity.
Losing sight of her amongst the trees Dawn continued forward slowly but hearing the sound of voices ahead she came to a quick stop. "I know you've done this before but I think we should start at the beginning." Well that was Xander.
"Do I have to?" And, though Dawn had never heard her whine before, that was unmistakeably Faith. So what were they doing? Curiously she leaned closer.
"Yes you do. We've seen that you're not as good as you thought you were. Do you want Buffy to see how bad you are?" To see how bad she was at what? Dawn wondered.
"No."
"Ok then. Firstly, take the shaft in your right hand." Dawn's mouth dropped open, so there was something going on between them. "Now wrap your left hand around it as well, not to near the end."
"Like this?"
"Woah, not so tight. You don't want to break it."
Faith laughed. "No I wouldn't want that at all."
"It's not too big for you is it?" Xander asked. Oh God! Had they no shame? Shocked but strangely fascinated Dawn continued to listen. "I've handled bigger," she heard the dark haired slayer boast.
Xander snorted. "I bet you have but how does this one feel?"
"It's ok. Nice and firm."
"Good. Now move it gently back and forth." There was a short pause then, "yes that's very good. Remember smooth even strokes, back and forth, back and forth…"
"And you said I was no good."
"It won't be the same. It'll be completely different with Buffy."
"I'm not scared, I'd take her right now if she was here."
"I just love your confidence. I'm really gonna enjoy watching you two go at it hole for hole." Dawn had heard enough. Actually she'd heard more than enough. She began to back away.
"You perv," Faith accused him, with a laugh. "Can I get my hands on the balls now?" Unable to stop herself Dawn gasped.
"What was that?" Faith asked.
The young girl froze.
"Hello," Xander called. "Is there someone there?"
She kept silent.
"If I have to come in and get you there's gonna be trouble," Faith promised. Not one for idle threats Dawn believed her, which left her in a bit of a predicament. She wanted to come out but she was afraid of what
she might see.
"I'm going to count to three. One, two…"
"Ok, ok I'm coming out," she shouted and putting her head down she slowly stumbled forward.
"Dawn is that you?" Xander asked. "What are you doing in there?"
"Nothing, I swear." She continued forward, stopping as soon as she passed the last tree and closed her eyes tightly shut.
"Why have you got your eyes closed?" Faith asked.
What was she supposed to say to that? She settled for a shrug.
"Well open them then and tell us what you were doing."
Dawn gulped and opened her eyes. Xander and Faith stood close together fully clothed. Both of them were looking at her curiously. Then she noticed the golf club in Faith's hand. She laughed, it all made sense now. "You've been playing golf."
"That's right."
"You've been playing golf," she said again, her laughter threatening to turn hysterical.
"Yes. Buffy challenged Faith to a game of crazy golf and I've been giving her some pointers." He frowned. "What did you think we were doing?"
Dawn's laughter stopped abruptly. "I thought…er…I thought you might be…" she could feel herself getting redder and redder "I thought…"
"…we were fucking," Faith finished for her, grinning.
"WHAT!" Xander exclaimed.
"I did not," Dawn protested.
Faith laughed. "So why are you blushing?"
"I…I…" Dawn's mind went blank, leaving the truth as her only option. "Ok I did. You pair have been acting strangely ever since that night out in LA."
"We have not," Xander protested a little too quickly.
Looking at his flustered expression Dawn knew he was lying. "I don't believe you. Something is going on between the two of you, I know it"
"I don't know what you're talking about."
Unruffled Faith just laughed and slipped her arm around Xander's waist. "Give it up Xand, we've been busted."
Xander continued to look glum for a couple of more moments then shrugged and stole a quick kiss. Seeing the obvious affection between the two Dawn smiled, it was nice that good things could still happen, that it wasn't only bad stuff they had to look forward to.
"So now you know, what are you going to do about it?" Faith asked coldly.
"Faith," Xander cautioned but she took no mind and continued to look at the young woman.
Dawn gulped. "I'm going to do nothing about it," she told the slayer. "I'm really happy for you, the pair of you. If you want to keep it a secret then that's your business. I won't tell."
Faith studied her for several more seconds then satisfied she nodded. "See that you don't," she warned then looked up at Xander, smiling wickedly. "So is the lesson over `cause I'm feeling rather horny."
Xander grinned. "So you want to change clubs do you? Well I think that can be arranged but there might be a penalty."
Dawn fled.
