The Stags - Mansfield Town Football Club
The origins of this website lie in in the murky depths of 1996 - when I undertook a Data Communications project during my Masters degree. As part of it was to publish a web site, and being a lifelong Stags fan, I elected to base it around a football team. Hence this site was born, and suddenly found itself online one rainy Sunday evening when I signed up to Geocities to see if I could actually publish it 'live'.
As there were no Stags websites at all at that point, when the search engines found it some hits began to be generated and I decided to keep working on it and provide up-to-date news and the like - mostly with the idea of the exiled fan in mind. The first 18 months of this 'project' brought me into contact with people all over the world, who for whatever reason wanted to know a bit about the Stags. Also during this time I came into contact with people with a similar idea to myself - notably a chap in Spanish exile called David Roe. We soon had two websites up and running very nicely but yet others, most part of todays SSIB, were soon also working on Stags related information.
Logically, the decision to create one main fans site was the right one, and the site now known as 'Stagsnet' came about as a result of that. I kept updating this site in parallel partly because it was generating hits and partly because I still enjoyed doing it. As Stagsnet grew it occurred to me that this site would become redundant and I began linking to it to start to shift the hits across. In recent months lack of time, holidays and the loss of lots of data in a hardware crash has meant that the site has hardly been changed in two months. This is the point at which I decided that to start updating again was probably unnecessary as so much more information was available elsewhere.
So, thankyou anyone reading this who took the time to visit. And to anyone reading this who hasn't been before, I shall keep the old pages up as a relic for anyone who wants to see them, and I might still do some work if the mood takes me (link on main page - but here also). Other than that, it only remains for me to welcome everyone to Stagsnet. A couple of the pages on there are mine, but there is a lot more to find with Craig, Rob and the boys.
