my sister sent me these pics she took in 1980 while visiting me in Nth NSW, in a small beach town called Bogangar, on Cabarita Beach, about 40klms south of Tweed heads. We were working as roadies, and basically being surf bums. Dope,..mushrooms, and a cheap brand of port called "National" which I think was 99c a bottle. It was a wld time. ...and some of my recollections just kinda blur together into a spinning montage. Our favourite words at the time were .. chunk....( good..thank you..yes please) can.........(may I please have another bong) stash.......(surfs up) ole noel....(rain) wimmek dees...(there appear to be some fine looking mushrooms over here) yum sung brix..(I find that girl quite attractive) sesh....(would you care for another game of Yahtsee?) attemUP..(load the truck) During these long months , we toured for a few weeks at a time, then slothed about the beaches untill we recovered. My most horrendous memory, is of driving an 8 ton pantec truck fullly laden with stage equipment, and completely unlicenced , at 80miles an hour through a weigh station , giving the attendant the forks while the sidekick Daniel threw half empty beercans out the window. we were drunk,..sleepless, and running on speed, supplied to us, by the guitarist Tommy Emmanuel. On a wall in the dressing rooms of the Seagulls Leagues club , was scrawled a peice of graffitti that read... The Roadies Effigy If its wet...drink it If its dry...smoke it If it moves..fuck it and if it doesnt move..throw it in the back of the truck. |
