We must face it: We All Will Die Eventually

Have you ever wondered how long you would live?

During the Spring 1999 semester, I took a wonderful class here at ETBU called, "Death and Dying". I learned so much in this class, it was probably one of my best electives. One thing that we did at the very beginning of the semester was to take this test to find out how long we might live.

It's pretty interesting. Good news!!! I'm going to be one hundred and one before I say:

Hello, Heaven!

Let's Begin:

Individual Life Expectancy:

Directions: The following method for calculating longevity not only points to the inevitability of dying, but identifies specific ways of increasing one's chances for living longer.

Begin with 75, and add/subtract as indicated to arrive at your individual life expectancy.

Begin with: 75

---If you are male, subtract 4; if you are female, add 4.

---If you plan to live in an urban area for most of your life, subtract 2; if a town or rural area is planned, add 2.

---If you anticipate having a desk job for most of your life, subtract 2; if the work requires physical labor, add 3; if you anticipate working after 65, add 3.

---If you exercise vigorously several times weekly, add 3.

---If you anticipate earning over $50,000 or under $100,000 a year, subtract 2.

---If you anticipate living with a spouse or friend for most of your life, add 4; if not subtract 1 for each decade after reaching age 30.

---If you are an extrovert, enjoying the society of others, add 2; if you are an introvert, preferring to be by yourself, subtract 2.

---If you are intense, aggressive, and easily angered, subtract 3; if you are relaxed, easygoing and worry little, add 3.

---If you have been given a ticket for speeding in recent years, subtract 2; if you regularly wear a seat belt while traveling, add 2.

---If you anticipate finishing, or have finished college, add 1; for a graduate degree, add 2.

---If any grandparent lived to 85, add 2; if all four grandparents lived to 73 or are now living, add 3.

---If either parent died of heart failure before 50, subtract 5; if any parent, brother, sister under 50 has (or had) a heart condition, or has diabetes, subtract 3.

---If you get intoxicated at least once a month, subtract 2; if a chronic alcoholic, subtract 8.

---If you are overweight by more than 50 pounds, subtract 8; by 30-50 pounds, subtract 4; by 10-30 pounds, subtract 2.

---If you smoke more than two packs a day, subtract 8; one or two packs, subtract 6; one-half to one, subtract 2.

---If you are over 30, make this adjustment; 31-40, add 2; 41-50, add 3; 51-70, add 4, over 70, add 5.

Total everything up..... Your life expectancy is....... _____________

And, no matter how high or how low the number may be, always remember:
Heaven
Heaven IS your REAL home.
