The 2003 Stanley Cup playoffs were won by the New Jersey Devils. This was the third time the cup was won by the Devils since 1995. The 2003 playoffs were also known as Niedermayer vs. Niedermayer as it was the first time in approximately 50 years that two brothers played against each other in the finals - Scott Niedermayer with the Devils and Rob Niedermayer with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

On August 30, 2003, New Jersey Devils defenseman Scott Niedermayer (#27), brought the Stanley Cup to Fort Steele heritage town for a ride on the East Kootenay Railway. In the past, the cup has traveled by train when it was being transported, but this is the first time a player has taken the cup for a train ride.
