"And the day came when the risk it took to remain tight inside the bud was
more painful than the risk it took to blossom."
Anais Nin

Please take heart and allow your little bird to fly

TAKE HEART

As we are born
We thankfully forget
The painful process
Of this momentous event
But the courage and risk
It takes to bloom
From the protective nest
To a blossoming young woman
Or a beautiful young man
Takes years and much pain
To move from childhood
To one of responsibility
And adulthood
Tears at our very soul
As we try to force
The envelope
Try to separate
What was once
A coupling of
Child and parent
To one of individual
Growing into our own
Very special unique and
Self thinking person
Keeping those ideals
Values and morals so
Ingrained in us
And that fit our
Own individuality
Some we give up
So that we can
Grow and become
Become the person
That we were meant
To be
The risk that has to be taken
The birth or budding
Of a new and unique
Person who has his
Or her own opinions
To stay within the bud
And not to blossom
Is indeed more painful
For to grow is of the
Natural order of things
And to stay tied
To mother’s wings
Stunts the young bird
And shatters her self-esteem
To be controlled
And kept as a child
When a young person
Is ready to fly and spread
Her very own wings
Is to clip those wings
And inhibit the blossoming
Of such a one-of-a-kind individual
The natural order of things
Must and will in time
Occur no matter the pull
Of childhood and adulthood
There comes a time
When one must stand up
For the person they
Were born to be
Stymied when one
Should be supported
And lifted was never
Meant to be
Let your wings spread
Let your children blossom
Let what must be happen
And smile and be proud
For allowing blossoming
To come to be
Is allowing the beauty
And nature’s wisdom
To blossom into a new generation
So be proud of your baby bird
On his or her journey
Known as life
And in time
She or he will let her
Offspring take flight and be
