In the begining, there were a group of civilian archologists who found, in 1922, a large ring made of an unknown type of material, buried in the Egyptian dessert. On top of this ring, was a large stone with some symbols on it. After several years, an outsider, named Dr. Danel Jackson, figured out what the ring was and what the symbols mean. Dr. Jackson called the ring "stargate". The U.S. Air Force then took the project over and decited to sent a team through. The team was lead by Col. Jack O'Neill. Dr. Jackson went with the team to "dial home" when the team was done on the other side. When the team got to the other side of the "stargate", they descovered that they were not on Earth, anymore. The planet was called Abydos. Dr. Jackson also found out that the symbols on this "gate" were different and it would be a while before he could get the team home. When the team could go home, Dr. Danel Jackson decited to stay on the planet and bury the "gate" there. Col. O'Neill puts in his report that the planet was destroyed and Dr. Jackson had died during the mission. Five years later, an alien race gains access to the base and the team gets recalled to active duty. Col. O'Neill reviels that he lied on his report. He tells them to "dial the Gate" to Abydos. He sends a box of tissues to Abydos and the empty box was sent back with a message froom Dr. Jackson. The team is later reunited back on Abydos. Dr. Jackson informs the team, that the "gate" on Earth is one of many in a network of "gates" on planets spread throughout the galaxy. That's when they decide to explore the galaxy using this network, make new allies, and get alien technology to aid in the defense of planet Earth. |
