Part
1 – (KaraMeL)
The sky
flared with a mysterious fire as the SG1 said their good-byes. Today was
the day they were going home. Sam smiled fondly at all the great memories
she would leave along with this place. The sky darkened and the beautiful
aurora that followed the setting of the Aryan sun faded. Sam turned her
head to catch the last of the day’s heat on her pale face. Beside her Daniel
seemed to have the same feeling of euphoria. Jack, on her right was barking
at Teal’c to get his butt moving as they tried to load the M.A.L.P. He shot
a withering look in their direction. Daniel, snapping out of whatever memories
the last sunset of the planet had drudged up, stepped towards the DHD. His
hand pausing over the stone placement. Turning to Jack and Teal’c, he saw
Jack give him an annoyed expression. His hand drifted to the familiar glyphs.
His hand pressed them in the seven successions and the seventh symbol locked.
The wormhole engaged, it’s blue event horizon stretching to infinity until
it snapped back into a rippling pool. Sam glance back at the Aryan’s and
waved a good-bye. Jack motioned Teal’c in and then turned to his friend.
“Are you
going to stand there all day Jackson? Come on get your ass moving!” Daniel
winced at the tone in his friend’s voice. He was cranky there was no mistaking
that.
“I’m coming,”
he said loudly. “You go ahead, I’ll be right behind you.” He turned his
back on his friend. Jack sighed and scrubbed a hand through his short hair.
“See you
on the other side!” Daniel dismissed him with a wave. Jack rolled his eyes
and stepped through. Backing away, Daniel waved his good-bye and stepped
into the oblivion.
“Aghhh!”
Daniel yelled as he was finally catapulted out of the gate. Stumbling slightly
and then regaining his balance he registered he was not in the gate room.
If anything he was on the planet he had just left. Looking around confused
he saw Jack with a similar expression on his face on the steps.
“Jack?”
“Daniel?”
He barely seemed to register his friend’s appearance. “What happened?” Daniel
looked up. He stumbled back his eyes finally seeing the mass grave by the
Stargate. Shaking slightly he approached a figure on pike, it’s head speared,
its eyes bulging out, as if he had been alive when they had driven the stake
through his body. Feeling as though he were about to be sick he noticed
a mark on the man’s forehead. Taking a beep breath so he wouldn’t smell
the stench of death he peered at the symbol and gasped. The putrid smell
from the man that had been slaughtered, no more than a couple hours ago
flooded his sinuses, he started to cough despite himself and backed up, slamming
into Jack as he did so. The older man cursed and automatically put an arm
around the young man’s waist to avoid further injury if Daniel scurried away.
Finally sitting up, he was ready to let out a sarcastic comment when he saw
the ashen pallor on Daniel’s face. Getting no reaction, Jack shook his friend.
“Daniel?
What’s wrong?” Daniel opened his eyes; his eyes registering that he was
no longer breathing the scent of death and rotting flesh. Blinking furiously
he turned to his friend.
“We are
in very big trouble.” If to punctuate his remark the Stargate behind them
rumbles and chevrons started to lock. Jack looked around and saw no source
of cover; the only hiding place was.... The last chevron locked.
Sam opened
her eyes as she stepped out of the Stargate.
“What the
hell...” she said under her breath. This wasn’t the gate room, if anything
it was the planet they had just gated from. Looking around she noticed staff
weapon blasts scarring the ground beneath her feet. Looking towards the
pleasant suns she saw something in the distance. It seemed to be a stake
of sorts, Sam narrowed her eyes. It was useless; the sun was too bright.
Walking towards the distant point she noticed another set of footprints,
they looked as if they were only an hour or so old. Uneasily taking out
her weapon, she pointed it at the ground, her hand lay on the trigger like
there was no other thing she would want to hold. She approached the point
and notice that there were now two stakes, and something between them, stepping
closer she saw it was Teal’c. The massive Jaffa sat between the two sticks
and seemed to be praying. Sam walked another step closer, and gasped. There
was no ordinary person or object on the stakes; it was Colonel O’Neill and
Daniel. Her breath hitching in terror she backed away and fell, her gun
clattering uselessly against the hardened soil. Turning away she heaved
in breath after breath, her eyes tearing involuntarily. Teal’c shadow loomed
over her, and she couldn’t find the strength to look in his direction, not
anywhere near her friends. Teal’c lay a calm hand on her shoulders.
“I do not
understand what had happened, it seems we have leapt into the future of
this world.” Teal’c refused to look at the direction of his butchered friends.
“But it seems that Colonel O’Neill and Daniel Jackson had gotten here first.”
Sam nodded, not trusting her voice enough to strangle out a syllable. She
looked into the horizon and wordlessly followed the Jaffa blindly to wherever
he would lead them.
The last
chevron locked, Jack grabbed Daniel and closed his eyes. He heard the Stargate
activate, and He shoved Daniel into the pile of dead bodies, himself following
suite. Daniel had barely enough time to register what was happening before
he was plunged into dead bodies, limp, blood-soaked hand clawed at his clothes,
his mind registered panic and flakes of blood that had dried rained confetti
in an endless spiral of dejection and resolve, the world spiraled as he
tried not to breath. His mind screamed at him and he closed his eyes in
rejection and tears started to leak out of the sides of his lids. Jack,
beside him, desperately tried to reach his friend. Knowing that any movement
now would reveal their location he prayed Daniel wouldn’t freak out. Watching
as two booted legs appeared in his line of view; he kept still, the illusion
of death. Daniel had also gone still and Jack thanked the heavens. He lay
there, his breath so shallow it was almost non-existent. The booted feet
walked away and Jack let out the breath he wasn’t aware he was holding.
Sensing he was in no danger he inconspicuously tried to ‘swim’ through dead
bodies to his inert friend. Jack grabbed and touched his friends shoulder.
“Daniel?”
He said quietly, “Can you here me? Hello?!?” Jack turned his friend, and
gasped.
Part
2: (KaEn)
Instead
of seeing his archeologist friend Daniel, he saw a big, brown Jaffa, with
the mark of Apophis on his head.
'Teal'c,
what the hell are you doing here?" They stood up out of the heap of bodies
and Jack was surprised to see his Captain too. Daniel appeared behind him.
His team was complete again.
" Colonel,
I'm so happy to see you alive." Jack lifted an eyebrow, he didn't understand.
In his mind, it had only been 15 minutes, since they left each other.
" I mean,
you and Daniel were dead."
" As in,
not breathing?" Daniel asked, Sam and Teal'c nodded.
"
What happened?"
" We went
trough the gate and me and Captain Carter arrived back at this planet. I
saw yours and O'Neill's head staked on a ..."
" Thank
you Teal'c, we understand the picture." Jack's stomach wasn't feeling so
good after the dive into the dead bodies, no need for a detailed description
of his own dead.
" So, what
happened then, I don't see my head hanging around here." Daniel was getting
curious; this was an interesting case. However, Jack didn't feel the same
way, he was looking around, for a bush, in case that
Teal'c's
story was getting any more 'interesting'.
" We went
to the gate, we thought we arrived in the future, we wanted to go home,
and maybe try the same thing as what we did when we landed in the year 1969."
" Let me
guess, the gate started to activate and you hid in the heap of bodies."
Teal'c nodded,
Sam wasn't paying much attention, she was just happy to see her friends
again. She still couldn't believe it, she was so sure that they had been
dead. She was even preparing a way to break the
news for
the General. And trying to figure out a way to save them.
"Sam??"
Daniel waved his hands for her eyes. She snapped out of her thoughts. Jack
didn't wait for an apology.
" How about
a way to get out of this?"
"Well sir,
I don't think we landed so far in the future. The people on this world haven't
aged before they died, so it was soon after our departure, so going back
to Earth couldn't be a problem, like in 69."
" And the
bodies are still..." Daniel looked for a word that didn't sound too harsh,
"fresh... So we might be in danger, if a system lord was responsible for
this."
Teal'c just
nodded. " So home it is, start dialing Daniel."
A couple
of seconds, after they left the wormhole, it disintegrated.
" What
the...?" said Jack.
Part
3 – (KaraMeL)
Jack
looked at the planet. He rubbed his eyes and squinted. He could see trees,
and water, beautiful flowers and thousands of insects and animal species
he couldn’t even fathom to try and identify. He turned to the rest of his
team, who looked just as miffed as he was. Jack looked up at the bright
blue sky. Daniel stepped up beside him and he pointed into the distance.
There, outlined by the far off mountains, Jack finally saw the figures coming
towards them fast. For a minute, his mind was completely blank.
“Sir,” Jack
turned to his captain. She raised her head. There, right beside the Gate,
was an enormous hole. It was empty except for the slight sounds of grunting.
Jack jumped off the metal dais and he jerked his head, telling his team
to follow him. Daniel spun round on his heels, looking at the planet. This
was the exact same planet. Completely undecimated and untouched. Instead
of burned grass and trees scorched to near unrecognizable shapes of melted
mush, they were whole, sprouting, and huge. Daniel whirled around, only
to duck and barely be missed by a shovel full of dirt. Jack looked back
and frowned. Daniel’s lack of concentration on the matter made it altogether
even less appealing. Jack gave his team member a sour look then looked into
the pit.
“Hey down
there!” The grimy man at the bottom of the hill looked up, a friendly expression
lighting up his face. The man was in Earth’s standards about sixty years
of age. By the way the man’s eyes crinkled at the edge, Jack had a feeling
this man rarely got angry. He waved and grabbed for something. Teal’c brought
his weapon to bear and behind him, Jack could hear Daniel telling the man
something about ‘making good impressions.’ The man hauled his body up the
ladder and Jack found the man surprisingly agile and lithe. Finally, the
man’s head popped up and he deposited his slightly pudgy body on the grass
beside the large pit.
“Hello.”
He raised his hand to his forehead and wiped it across his forehead. “Wow
is it ever hot today!” The man smiled kindly and Jack let his finger that
rested on the trigger of the gun relax a bit. Oddly, the man didn’t seem
frightened by them and he finally stood. He took off the glove like objects
he had had on and grabbed a container full of some substance. It was water.
After taking a cup, filling it and drowning it, he offered it to the team.
Jack politely decline, as did Teal’c, Sam and Daniel.
“Well, It
is certainly a fine day to receive visitors. Couldn’t get enough of us could
you Colonel?” Jack shrugged and remembered with a jolt the thousands of
bodies piled up upon each other. The horrid smell still permatrated his
nostrils.
“Yeah, something
like that... so why are you digging this hole?” The man’s eyes crinkled
again.
“What ever
do you mean Colonel. You should know. You were the one who was helping me.”
Jack blinked and he turned to the rest of his team.
“What do
you mean?” Daniel stepped foreword. He narrowed his eyes slightly and the
man laughed.
“You weren’t
deaf yesterday when I told you about the temple Daniel. Sam, come on...
Remember the seeing glass?” Daniel stuttered nervously.
“What do
you mean? We’ve never seen this place before, ever.” The man shook his head.
“You were
here yesterday.” Daniel looked at Jack, then back at the man.
“We were
here. And trust me, that wasn’t such a great experience. You were dead.”
The man backed up slightly and he had a slightly chiding expression writ
over his face.
“Come, you
must be coming down with something. I’ll take you to see the guru. He’ll
help you.” Jack started to protest when the Stargate rumbled and the chevrons
activated.
“Jack?”
Daniel turned and watched as the chevrons glowed in succession.
“Oh....”
Jack started and was cut off as the Stargate engaged.
Part
2: (KaEn)
They
realized it was too late to hide, so they raised their weapons, while the
older man just stood there. Teal'c ran towards him, throwing him to the
ground in cover. But the least they expected to see was a MALP, covered
with digging gear. The man stood up and spoke in disbelieve:
" Why so
aggressive? You said to us yesterday, that you would send this. I thought
you came with it. "
" I, we,
... I mean, we thought it were others. We have seen the fut....” Someone
had stamped his leg. It was Sam.
" We just
care about your people. Could you bring us to your village?" Daniel looked
at Sam with a strange glare in his eyes. When the man was out of hearing
range, she explained.
" He lives
peaceful here, I didn't recognize him from our past trips here, so no need
to upset him with news of the death of his people. " They nodded. When they
arrived at the village, the sun had already set. A large fire colored the
sky red. They had received a large hut, big enough to fit six persons. They
started talking again.
" OK captain,
you're the brain. What is going on?"
" I haven't
got a clue. Somehow we landed in the past this planet."
" The past,
hey, as far as I remember, there wasn't a big, honking pit next to the Gate."
" They probably
filled it up."
" Yeah,
Danny, real smart answer.." Daniel didn't hear the remark and continued:
" We've
been here before, so, it can't be so long ago. Otherwise the SGC wouldn't
exist yet." Carter shaked her head.
" But we
haven't been here yet, in our perspective, so this must be the future for
us."
" That's
right Sam, but then to our first mission here, we were further in the future.
And then you guys were even more f.."
" Daniel,
you're starting to loose me here."
Jack's head
was spinning. Time travel, why the hell not. Not like they didn't do it
before. Only then, they knew they were in the past.
" Make up
your minds, you guys, or I'll flip a coin. Past or Future."
" Past.."
Sam answered.
" Future"
Daniel argued.
Jack checked
his pockets for a coin, then he realized they had lost their gear somewhere.
He raised his shoulders. They probably dropped it, when hiding in the bodies.
The two scientists were still fighting about past or future. Suddenly Teal'c
made an interesting point.
" Perhaps
we shouldn't argue about where we are, but find a way home. " Sam and Daniel
stood perplex. Jack couldn't resist a chuckle, when he saw their faces.
" And do
you have any idea's, Teal'c?"
" We always
dialed in Earth's address, and arrived here, maybe if we dialed in this
worlds address, we would go to Earth." Sam started nodding. " He has a point."
" So, what
are we still doing here? Danny, go say goodbye to the villagers and lets
move out.
" Sir, it's
dark out there. Couldn't we spend the night here? Probably saver, with that
large pit close to the Gate."
" You're
right. We'll leave first thing in the morning."
And Jack
kept his word. When the sun was rising, Daniel was already dialing. They
expected no reaction, like in Antarctica, but a wormhole appeared.
" Now this
is strange."
" Don't
think about it, Captain, I'll do stranger thing to get home. Now cross your
hearts, we're leaving... See you on the other side" Wherever that might
be, he silently added.
Part
5 – (KaraMeL)
The wormhole
spewed open with a rush of un-space and Jack tapped the butt of his gun
against his leg. Whatever was wrong with this world was NOT going to be
his problem anymore. Daniel blinked at him, and with a start, Jack realized
that they were waiting for his command. Jack shrugged at the man who was
looking at them strangely. He waved his hand and Teal’c stepped into the
gate, followed by Sam then Daniel who waited at the top of the ramp, looking
at the doomed planet with an expression of something that looked like relief.
Jack couldn’t blame him.
“Go on Daniel.
It won’t bite.” Daniel looked at him sorrowfully and then to the man standing,
clutching the prized shovels from the MALP in his hands with an odd expression
writ on his face. Jack understood. Daniel wanted to warn these people. He
couldn’t let the archeologist do that. It would be the wrong thing to do,
it was create a physical paradox that could send this universe spiraling
into an uncertain future... Well, actually, that’s what Sam told him.
“I’m going.”
Daniel’s words could be barely heard and when Jack peered at his friend,
Daniel was only a slight ripple in the whirlpool of blue.
“Well, sorry
we can’t help you with your hole. Maybe we’ll be back to do something...”
The man smiled, the simple act lighting up his face and for a minute Jack
was tempted to tell the man himself. Instead, he opted to say a few words
under his breath. “Yeah... something like bagging and tagging bodies.” As
Jack said that he stepped through the gate and realized why that man had
seemed so familiar. That was the head on the pike.
The blaring
of a horn or alarm made Jack look up. Instead of facing the faces of his
friends, he was facing the barrels of more than a dozen military styles
weapons. Jack frowned. This couldn’t be happening. Jack looked around the
room they had gated to – not the gate room he knew – He spotted Daniel,
Sam and Teal’c in a corner. Daniel shrugged helplessly. Sam flickered her
gaze between he guns and Jack. Teal’c’s brow creased. Jack stared at the
elaborately dressed man that started up the ramp towards him. The men saluted
him and Jack smiled at the man, hoping that it would help him in someway.
For the first time, Jack noticed all the people in the room were dressed
in silver suits that bore an insignia that resembled a panther and a hawk.
“Who the
hell are you?” Jack looked up at the man. “And why have you violated the
code?” Jack blinked slowly and looked in Carter’s direction. She shrugged.
“And what
code did I break?” The man’s expression soured.
“Universal
Code 134: The violation of act 56.” Jack closed his eyes.
“And what
code did I break?” He repeated. The man took out something that looked like
an electronic padd.
“Violation
of subspace dimension time-travel.” Jack had barely enough time to mouth
‘what’ before he and the rest of his team were dragged off.
Part
6: (KaEn)
They
were locked away in a small room, to small for four persons. It looked like
the cellblocks in the SGC, but the walls were covered with the same silvery
stuff the people wore. Teal'c was standing against the wall, searching for
some bugs, but was satisfied, not to find ones in his near direction. Daniel
stood besides him and Sam was sitting in the corner. The furniture was missing,
so Jack placed him next to Sam.
" OK?" Carter
nodded. " So what the hell is going on?"
" Apparently
we gated to Earth in the future. "
" Yeah,
but only now Cassie is not here to help us. " Carter rose, the three men
startled and when they came to peace, she started to talk.
" It can't
be. This isn’t supposed to happen. When your time travelling, you stay on
the same planet, like we went to 69. We dialed up for PX whatever and we
got back on Earth. This doesn't make sense."
" From what
I experienced, nothing makes sense anymore, Captain. "
" Yes, but,
we've been bouncing up and down time in what a half day, there can't be
so many solar flares, going up and down."
" Captain
Carter made a point. "
" I feel
like someone is messing with my mind. If we gated to PX... we should
be still there."
" And what
about the Earth weapons we saw? And this looks like the SGC to me?"
" Maybe
we made an alliance with them a long time ago?"
" That still
wouldn't explain all the details. Danny, the general, or the president would
want our weapons back when the gate is closed."
" Maybe,
they found another way?"
" Yeah,
like Scotty beam me up?"
A silence
fell. They were all thinking, even Teal'c, although he was confused about
the Star Trek joke. He had been 'studying' earth’s culture. Suddenly Sam
started again.
" I'm feeling
this strange déjà vu thing. Like we've seen this already,
like it's taken directly out of our minds. "
" What do
you mean, Sam?"
" The gate
room, with junk, when we went to the future, mass murder,... remember the
Gamekeeper's world?"
" Yeah,
area 51 had a field trip with the technology they brought back."
" Area 51?"
" Yes, SG11
was sent there last week, I mean, counting of when we left Earth. To check
if he wasn't fooling them again and they brought back some... doohickeys."
" Then maybe
we are on Earth....”
" What do
you mean, Captain Carter?" She was starting to answer, but was stuck by
awful pain; she fell on the floor and started screaming. The men jumped
up and tried to help her. Jack was performing SPR, but then Teal'c simply
noted:
" O'Neill,
she is dead." Jack started CPR'ing harder and faster, but didn't succeed.
Daniel was still standing in a corner, when he stopped. He closed her eyes
and looked up to Teal'c. His eyes were trying to look elsewhere, not excepting
the loss of his friend. Daniel came closer and laid a hand on Jack's shoulder.
They sighted and took their vests of to cover the body. They couldn't stand
looking at it. Suddenly the door opened...
Sam opened
her eyes and was blinded by the light. She pinched her eyes close as she
felt like being carried somewhere. A loud voice spoke and she was thrown
in a room, and blacked out when her head hit the floor. The last flash she
saw were boots, military ones...
Part
7 – (KaraMeL)
Daniel stirred from his perch
on a bed.
“What the hell?” He sat straight
up, a loud bang resulted in the action as he hit the top of the bunk he
was in and Daniel winced as he rubbed his forehead. He was certainly going
to have a nasty bruise.
“Hello?” He called out, not really
expecting an answer. He stood up, not the least bit surprised when he found
his glasses neatly perched on a table near the bunk he had been on recently.
Daniel could already feel the nausea creeping up the back of throat and
the beginnings of a very nasty headache.
“Oh for crying out loud.” Daniel
unconsciously mimicked the Colonel’s favorite phrase. He walked unsteadily
towards the door and knocked on the dense metal.
“Hello? I’m awake!” Daniel wasn’t
the least bit surprised that the calls were left unanswered. Very few things
did surprise him these days. Daniel closed his eyes, resting his head on
the cool metal frame of the door. It was very wonderful to have something
on his forehead, the cool compress, added to the silent atmosphere of the
room seemed to lull him to sleep. Daniel foggily tried to grasp the door
as he suddenly found his equilibrium gone and his balance shot. Daniel realized
one thing as the door opened and a floor of people rushed into the room.
He hadn’t seen Jack... he hadn’t seen Teal’c... and he hadn’t seen Sam,
further more he didn’t know what had happened to her. As he felt himself
be picked up, a slight prick made him grimace and he opened his eyes a slit
to see the glint of a needle in the harsh light. Daniel registered one last
thought before he returned to the darkness. What was happening to him?
“Argh.” Jack came to with a
groggy exclamation and he barely missed hitting his head on the bunk above
him. The odd thing was, was that he felt although he had. Shaking off a
feeling of discomfort and dirtiness. He felt so out of control, so wild
and free, so reckless... So Daniel. Jack stood up and gathered the layout
of the room. The room was sparsely decorated, it had the bunk bed, a small
table with a pitcher of water and a door in the far right.
”Wonderful.” Jack said to himself.
He looked up to the ceiling and traveled with his eyes. In the far corner,
he saw a camera. Jack took a large step towards the left. The camera followed
him. Jack stepped back to his original position. The camera followed him.
“Super. Motion oriented.” Jack
waved cheerfully at the camera and felt like making an obscene gesture.
He wondered if people in the future still used obscene gestures. Jack shrugged
and walked to the door. Banging on it, he yelled:
“I’m in here. See the problem?”
Jack went back to the camera and jumped up, waving his arms like an idiot.
“For people who are so advanced, you guys sure don’t know anything about
common curtsey.” Jack threw a disgusted look in the direction of the camera.
Instead of hurting his hands anymore than he needed to, Jack sat on his
bed, arms crossed and head laid back. He wished he knew something about
the rest of his team. Sam was no doubt in the ‘finest’ medical care facility.
A perfect guinea pig. He had no idea where Daniel was, although he could
vaguely recollect the slightly sickened expression on the boy’s face when
they had all blacked out. Teal’c was probably being interrogated about his
involvement with the Goa’uld. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that
happened. Jack stared at the roof of the bed above him, eyeing the camera
darkly. He wondered what the hell was happening. The even worse thing at
the moment was that he was totally useless and helpless right now, and that
was a position he preferred not to be in.
Sam squeezed her eyes shut.
The light was so bright and unwelcome. All around her, she could hear the
familiar beeps of medical machinery that was no doubt hooked to her. Sam
opened her eyes, blinking quickly, letting a release of tears through her
closed lids. The first thing she saw was the ceiling. She recalled voices
that she heard during the extremely painful session she had been put though.
Sam remembered very little about anything that had happened to her. No surprise,
they had probably drugged her up to the extent that she was unconscious
and doped to the gill. Sam winced and turned her head, feeling the kinks
and aches that radiated from the many points that stood out. On her mouth,
she could feel a cumbersome mask and she tried to move her hands to take
it off. Not luck. She had been tied down. Sam wondered what had really happened
during her memory gaps. Instead of trying further, she focused on another
point in the hospital she assumed she was in. As her vision stopped shifting
and splitting, she saw another bed. Straining harder, she made out the face...
It was Daniel... Sam gasped and found the edges of her vision dimming. As
she sunk into the darkness again she heard another person talking.
“It was all wrong. The other
two are fine. These two shall not survive unless we take action. The blending
was a failure.” Sam struggled to understand, but instead slipped into the
deep recesses of her mind...
Part 8: (
KaEn)
Jack still sat on the bed. The camera was following his every move. He tried to remove it, but it was protected by a force field. Hmm, at least something high tech about this place... He was cursing at himself of giving the permission to leave. They shoulda stayed there until the next solar flare. Of course without a computer, it was hard to figure out when and then it would still be a lucky guess. He sighted; feeling helpless wasn't one of his favorites. Suddenly the door opened. One of the strange clothed people entered and gave him an injection. He didn't want it, but he could stop him.
Before he could open his eyes,
he heard a wormhole disengaging. With his first glare around the planet,
he realized he was at the mass murder one again. For a second he didn't
smell a thing, but then the nausea kicked in. Jack tried to locate his other
friends. He didn't see 'em staked down, so he was a little bit happier then
before. Behind the DHD Daniel appeared and Teal'c left his hide out from
by the Stargate. But he didn't see the Captain anywhere. Then the memory
of a dying friend kicked in. He tried to repress it, but when Daniel asked
where Sam was, he heard the bitter truth out of his Jaffa friend's mouth.
" She fell down when we were in
Earth’s future, she was dead, we believe." Daniel looked surprised.
" What? Earth's future? Where
have we been?"
" Don't you remember? The silvery
walls, Carter falling down, strange people with hawk clothes,.." He tried
to find more examples, but Daniel shaked his head.
" I don't remember a thing, after
gating when the big pit was there....”
" Strange."
" I'll say, I think the future
people just couldn't bare our sight and kicked us of their world."
" Witch was yours in a way.."
" Yes, Teal'c,... or not, Carter
said something, before she..."
" I don't remember."
" You either Teal'c... what's
the last thing you do remember."
" Seeing Captain Carter drop
down, covering her with my vest..." He stopped and touched it, he was wearing
it again, but he could swear he didn't put it back on.
" And then the door opened...
And a few seconds later I was stepping out the Gate."
" Last thing I remember was the
pit... and pain. So what happened, Jack?"
" The door opened, they dragged
us out of the place and left Sam there. I was locked in a little room with
a camera. And then they gave me some kind of drug and I was here."
"..." Daniel's mouth opened; "
So Sam is..." He couldn't say the words. The other men just nodded. They
couldn't say the words either.
" So, shouldn't we do some kind
of ceremony, in her honor?" Jack stared at him. Teal'c answered that it
would be a good idea. " But, we don't have her body, or anything to bury?"
" When I was gone on Nem's world,
you didn't have a body either. Right?"
" Yes, but we knew where you,
your body was and we could send flowers there, we don't even have flowers,
only dead corpses. "
" We can still do a gesture, to
remember her by." Jack stared at his friends, he knew they were right, but
a ceremony would be final, ever since they gated to this PX3'er, one bad
thing happened after another."
" OK. What did you have in mind?"
Sam opened her eyes again,
the bright light was gone, so was her neighbor. She sighted; at least Daniel
was out of this place, on way or another. She tried to stand up, but the
restraints were still there. The mask had been removed; she looked around
and missed the beeping of before. So she was out the infirmary, or whatever
that place was. Suddenly the door opened. One of the strange looking people
entered and checked on her. He was surprised to see her awake so soon.
" Good morning stranger, who are
you?"
" Not your business."
" You'll be spending a lot of
time here, you might as well tell me."
" Like you don't know. " The flash
of military boots reappeared in her head.
" I'm on Earth hey?"
" Yes, I believe you people call
it that. Back in 2000." She decided to play along. " What year is it now?"
" 3211. "
" Yeah, men haven't evolved that
much." She refused to believe him. She couldn't stop thinking about the
Gamekeepers world and what Jack said. " I don't understand."
" Don't mind, what happened to
me?"
" You were blended with a Goa'uld,
he was already present when you gated here. We saw you falling in your cell
block."
" A Goa'uld? Thank you for getting
it out."
" We didn't, he died before we
could get to it, do you know why he couldn't survive in your body?"
" The Goa'uld mother didn't have
our DNA." She remembered what Hathor had said to Daniel, when she first
visited the base. Sam was trying real hard to play along. Maybe if they
trusted her enough, the restrains would be removed. She was sure she was
on Earth, in 1999 (2000). She even knew where: Area 51. Those jerks, they
had given them Goa'ulds and when their experiment didn't work, they came
and ask for help.
" Where are my friends?"
" I'm sorry, but their Goa'uld
was stronger, and they didn't survive." Hell right, if I could survive this,
so could they, she thought and was sure they were out there, in the base.
Probably back in those Gamekeepers
machines, to keep them ready for
the Goa'ulds, when she had given them the information they needed.
" Thank you, could you leave me
alone? My head hurts like hell and my friends.... " She started crying,
fake tears of course, but convincing enough for the 'doctor' to leave the
room.
Part 9: (
KaraMeL)
Jack looked up at the ceiling.
Very uninteresting. He looked at Daniel who was listlessly playing with
a metal object. Well, this was great. Teal’c had tried to open the door,
Jack had tried to talk to anybody by harassing the camera. The force field
had inadvertently knocked him straight into Teal’c, therefore he realized
that the effort was futile and the only thing that would come out from pissing
off whoever was controlling the camera was another zap. The Hawk-men had
come and gone, doing the usual tests, asking questions they knew would be
unanswered and taking blood samples. As much as Jack was starting to hate
those people, he knew he had to restrain himself. He had tried asking his
own questions about Sam or rather her body. There was of course no answer.
Daniel looked up from his corner of the room and Jack finally got a good
look at the object he was holding. Catherine’s Medallion. Jack scooted over
to Daniel, getting a strange look from Teal’c, and he put his back up to
the wall. It was impossible for him to have the medallion. Catherine never
took it off. Not after the years that she had gotten it back when Daniel
had decided to stay at Abydos.
“Where did you get that Daniel?”
Daniel peered over his glasses.
“Huh?” Jack furrowed his brow
and pointed to the necklace. “Oh that...” Daniel shrugged and fingered the
medallion.
“Well you weren’t wearing it when
you got to wherever we are now.” Jack made a circling expression with his
arm and Daniel narrowed his eyes.
“Good question. I just had it
when I got into this room. “ He narrowed his eyes. “ To tell you the truth,
I don’t know where I got it from. Maybe the people gave it to me... for
some reason...” Daniel trailed off and fingered the medallion thoughtfully.
“Catherine would never take that
off.” Jack looked at Teal’c. What the hell was going on?
“Then why do I have it?” Daniel
looked at Jack. Jack shrugged and looked at the camera. Somebody was seriously
screwing with his mind. He looked at his two teammates on the floor beside
him. Actually, all their minds. Jack turned at the sound of a door opening.
Two hawk soldiers or whoever or whatever they were stomped into the room.
“For crying out loud.” Jack smiled
tightly and waved at the two men. They stood still.
“Get up.” There was no room for
argument. Jack contemplated taking them out and instead got to his feet.
There was no use in trying to fight them and get caught all over again.
Daniel and Teal’c rose too, their expressions no happier than Jack’s. Jack
looked at them. He didn’t want any trouble. Not now.
“So,” Jack started, his tone
cocky and arrogant, “where are we going?” The hawk helmet turned and looked
at him.
“To a funeral.” Jack raised his
eyebrows.
“And who’s funeral would this
be?” The enforcer of sorts turned his helmet.
“Yours if you don’t shut up.”
Jack looked offended.
“I’m hurt.” Daniel tugged on
his shirt insistently and Jack turned. Daniel mouthed a silent ‘no.’ Jack
took the point.
“You should be. If you really
need to know, we are sending the body to the gate.” Behind him, Daniel looked
confused. Teal’c was silent.
“But whose body?” Jack was exasperated
now.
“Your friend’s. The female.” Jack
stopped. Daniel went slightly pale. Teal’c’s brow furrowed.
“Why? I thought she was going
to be buried?” Daniel spoke up and for a minute he looked ready to collapse.
Jack looked at Teal’c who positioned himself behind Daniel. Jack nodded
to Teal’c.
“We have decided to give her a
ceremony.” Daniel walked up to the man.
“You can’t do that! She’s our
friend. We should decide what we want to do with her body.” Jack raised
his eyebrows and nodded. Daniel was right.
“We are the only thoughts that
matter.” Daniel looked ready to say something, but the enforcer put a hand
at his throat, efficiently cutting off his air supply. As Daniel choked
the man continued. “You will be silent now or the next funeral ceremony
will be yours.” Daniel gasped painfully and the man released him. Jack grabbed
his friend and Daniel coughed before looking defiantly at the man.
“Get up.” The other man spoke
and this time the team did it without a word. At least they were going to
say goodbye to Sam, and sometimes that would be better than nothing.
As soon as they entered the
gate room, the only sound was the slight whispering and hushed sounds of
sobbing. On a pyre, Daniel could see a body, wrapped up in gauze, or some
sort of cloth. Daniel blinked rapidly. Beside him, Jack took in a deep breath.
It wasn’t all the time you got to see a valued friend, co-worker dead on
a funeral pyre. On Daniel’s other side, Teal’c impassively looked foreword
and at the back of the gate room, never directly at the body itself. The
hawk guards pushed them foreword; Daniel shot a look back. He was still
sore from when the man had almost choked him. The hawks led them to the
front of the pyre and Daniel looked at the body. He blinked slightly again,
trying to hold back the tear that rebelled against his will. The hawk behind
him hit his knees. Daniel fell painfully. Teal’c and Jack followed soon
after. Daniel looked at the inscriptions and he stared at the hieroglyphs.
This was odd. Why would there be a funeral pyre, with hieroglyphs and burning
torches in the gate room supposedly in the future. He twisted his head slightly
when there was a gasp of astonishment. As one, the team turned to the newcomer.
Jack’s expression fell.
“What the hell?” Daniel widened
his eyes. It wasn’t possible. Teal’c raised an eyebrow. The people assembled
whispered amongst them.
It was Maybourne.
Part 10: (
KaEn)
He was looking around smiling, like a little kid in a toyshop. Jack got angry. Here, here, of all the people that would survive the future? Why him? And why is he here? It's the future; he would be dead by now... He jumped up and started running, with the intention of doing permanent damage. He was smiling, laughing on a funeral, the funeral of his friend, how does he dare? The second he came real close to Maybourne, he disappeared. Jack stood stunned for a moment and was sure that Daniel and Teal'c were too, but the guards knocked him down and brought them back to their chambers.
" I thought they weren't supposed
to see me." Maybourne put him helmet down. He was mad, his whole plan was
failing.
" I don't understand, sir. The
clocking devise was on. I swear."
" They still SAW me, lieutenant.
" He turned around to see three men on beds, wearing helmets, with a alien
design. And then he looked at his helmet, attached to the same machine in
the background.
" I'm sorry, sir. It was still
on a experimental base. SG11 didn't bring back that much techno....”
" Whatever. Just make sure they
don't suspect anything. What will be hard after seeing me." Suddenly one
of the men started kicking around. Maybourne turned as fast as he could.
" Its nothing, sir. It just means
that Colonel O'Neill is kicking around him, in his... Virtual reality."
" What about the Captain. Is she
fine?"
" She fully recovered from the
blending. Jackson will be too soon. Why did we put him in the VR and not
Captain Carter."
" Cuz she knows to much. If she
starts blabbing around with them, they may find the exit portals, like they
did with the gamekeeper."
" But the captain knows nothing."
" Don't underestimate her. She's
playing stupid in there, waiting for her shot at freedom. But now I have
them, I won’t let them go. I'll go talk to her."
" But you'll blow the act.....”
Maybourne looked at him with a
deadly glare in his eyes. " Sir."
Carter was lying on her bed.
Like she could move. Her nose was itching, she hoped on of those marine
dress ups would come quickly. She felt helpless and didn't like it. For
what she knew, they could be Goa'ulds right now, or be trapped in the Gamekeepers
world. Actually the same, when she started thinking about it. The door opened.
Sam was prepared; she was going to beg to let her go. Playing the sensitive
woman, the helpless one, that wouldn't escape, even if the door was kicked
out by Rambo. However, this was the least she expected.
" Maybourne?"
" Captain Carter. Glad to see
your fine."
" Sure, so I was right. You're
playing games with us, aren't you?"
" Yep, and there's nothing you
could do about it. I'm working with full cooperation of the president."
" What do you mean?"
" Well , after a mission SG1 returned
drugged. After a week of unexplained coma, you ended up here, with the best
medical crew of America. We figured the problem out in a second. It was
a mild sedative, but cuz of our different DNA; it works longer on humans.
So basically, you and all your teammates are cured. But..."
" This was the perfect opportunity
to try out your new gadgets on us... And place some Goa'ulds in us."
" The perfect plan. Isn't. We
told the General you decided. And now you're here to stay."
" As guinea pigs."
" Yes.”
" So, why did you tell me?"
" Cuz we need help. After you
discovered what was going on, we pulled you out. Literally. But the machine
wasn't prepared for that, so we had a break down. They awaked, and we sedated
them, until it was back online. Then we got the idea of placing two Goa'ulds
you brought back in."
" It didn't work. Did you really
think we would give you 'good' Goa'uld to test on. We couldn't have the
risk of you blending them." Maybourne came closer. He smiled on a mysterious
way.
" Anyway, doctor, We put them
back in, make them believe you were dead, with the funeral idea, we found
on the internet...But they saw us."
" Tough luck."
" So, you're gonna help us."
" What makes you say I want?"
" They may be alive now, but what
will happen, if we pull the IV's out, without food and water. They'll die
slowly, not even knowing its happening." Sam, horrified by the thought,
closed her eyes.
" You know what, Cap? I'll let
you think about it. " And he left the room.
Part 11: (
KaraMeL)
Jack blinked. So many images, so many thoughts and dreams and wishes compressed together. One moment he saw Maybourne leering at him, the next he saw Sam’s lifeless body spread on a funeral pyre. Jack struggled to escape, this wasn’t supposed to happen, it couldn’t. Jack remembered something else, the old man, the pit, the strange static. Where was he? This wasn’t real, it couldn’t be. Jack blinked. The old man was in front of him again; he could hear him talking about them being there already. What? That wasn’t possible, it couldn’t be. There was another burst of static, this time he was back in the cell with Daniel and Teal’c... That didn’t sound right either... This had happened before... what had the men in the lab coats say? He was experiencing technical difficulties? What did he mean? Jack let out a hollow cry as the whirlwind of information once again swallowed him, taking him far away, to Charlie.
Daniel coughed and rose. Bright
sunlight assaulted his eyes, making him squint. No, it wasn’t sunlight;
it was Jack shining a flashlight in his face. He was back in the cell.
“Danny-boy... wake up!” Daniel
rose slowly this time, avoiding the bunk above him. Jack looked him over
critically. Daniel stared back until Jack shrugged.
“What do you want Jack?” Jack
smiled and toyed around with his flashlight. Daniel grabbed it and Jack
looked hurt.
“That was mine.” Daniel rolled
his eyes. Hie eyes roamed around the room. He remembered a ceremony and
then a man, then darkness. He vaguely remembered two people staring down
at him. Since then, he had no memory of anything. As he let his gaze wander
to Jack, he wondered how much the other man remembered.
“Jack,” he started tentatively
Jack looked up. “What happened?”
“We got a little mouthy... Are
you okay? Don’t you remember?” Daniel shook his head. Jack looked at him.
“I guess they hit you harder than I thought.” Jack grinned widely and Daniel
frowned. He didn’t like this one bit. Daniel shifted slightly and away from
Jack. Jack didn’t notice. Daniel wondered what the heck was happening...
“Hey Danny, where you going?”
Daniel shifted again and Jack stood up. “You didn’t answer my question Danny...”
Daniel shrank back. This wasn’t Jack. Jack leaned over; Daniel shrank back
further... This was defiantly not the Jack he knew.
“Stay away from me.” Jack smiled,
a leering and unwelcome gesture. Daniel scrabbled back, but a hand shot
out and took him by the chin.
“Ah, Ah, Ah! Nobody gets... gets...
gets... getzzzz...” The person above him shimmered and with a hiss of Static
fizzled out. Daniel watched as Jack’s figure froze. This was getting absurdly
science fiction. Daniel wretched his chin away from Jack’s chin and he curiously
knocked on his forehead. Frozen. A hollow knocking sound was all that had
heard and Daniel smiled. Well, at least this part of his nightmare was true.
Jack did have an empty head... Daniel went to the door. Turning the knob,
he found it unlocked. Daniel raised an eyebrow.
“Let’s explore shall we?” He closed
the door softly behind him and looked down the hallway. At least he was
alone. Daniel looked around once more and started walking.
“Sir!” Maybourne twisted on
his heels.
“What airman?” The younger man
blushed and stopped.
“We have a development.” Maybourne’s
eyebrow raised and he looked at the man with a renewed interest.
“What do you mean?”
“It’s Doctor Jackson sir. His
program is no longer functioning.” Maybourne tossed his clipboard onto a
nearby table and started down the hallway. He’d be damned if he’d let a
stuffy nosed archeologist ruin his project. The younger airman followed
and with a slam of the door, Maybourne was gone.
Part 12: (
KaEn)
Sam was working on the machines,
heavily guarded of course. At least she got Maybourne to get them out of
the helmets and in cells. She didn't know a thing about this technology,
so she couldn't risk crashing it with them inside. But she knew they were
OK. She had seen them, behind glass and with handcuffs on, but she saw them.
She sighted, she might as well try downloading the TV-guide in Asgard technology,
and that could work, but this... She thought of the treaty that Maybourne
made, in her anger, she kicked the machine, and lights flashed it made a
humming noise.
" Oh, c'mon. I don't believe
it..." she managed to get out. All the guards stormed out of the room to
search for Maybourne.
" Oh, I'll believe that..." she
mumbled and walked out the door, but turned around and sabotaged the device.
If she was going to run for it, she had to be sure; it wouldn’t damage the
people. She stuffed some cables in her jacket, and walked out. No one in
the hallway, her luck was changing. But after twelve abandoned corridors,
she was it wasn’t. Suddenly the alarms kicked on. She startled for a second,
but started running. She used every second of her airforce training, she
relied on the noises of the boots, if they were coming to close, she ducked
into a room, and searched for cover. And with all the tables loaded with
science stuff, a hideout wasn't so hard to find. The fifth time, she landed
in an armory storeroom.
" Alright!” She filled her pockets
with all the gas grenades she could find, and took a zat gun just in case.
A few seconds later the alarms went off. While she was looking from behind
a corner, she saw Daniel rough-handedly transported back, from the way she
came. Sam smiled, that guy always knows what to do on the right time, even
if he doesn't know. She was thinking of saving him, but he thought she was
dead, and before he would come trough from the shock, they would be captured.
And.... if the alarms went of because of Daniel, they didn't know she was
gone yet. An advantage she must use.
Maybourne was happy to see
Jackson back in his cell, he even smiled. As he rubbed his hand in his hair,
on of the guards entered. He had good news, at least, he thought he had.
Maybourne was trilled Carter had found the solution. He gave the soldier
a pat on the back and followed him to the room, where he found a destroyed
machine, but no Captain.
" What the HELL !...... sound
the alarm !!!!!!!"
As Sam entered another room,
the sirens started again.
" Damn" She turned on the lights
and saw a death glider. To bad Teal'c didn't get around showing us how to
fly on of those things. He's going to have to do it after we get out of
this mess.
" Fly!" she almost yelled out.
That's it, test results are always flown directly back at the SGC. If she
could find the results of something, she could write a note to the General.
Where would they hide test results? Offices. This is a lab, so offices couldn't
be far away. The only problem is, they are up there. She looked at the stairs
that leaded to a 'box' 10 meters up. She'd be a sitting duck if someone
entered. Or a stair climbing one. Sam straightened her back; she had to
do it. On her way to the stairs, she hit a wooden box. It was labeled: "Samples
of experimental medicine, transport ASAP to Dr. Fraiser, SGC.” ASAP, huh?
She forced the box open and put the cables in it, to make sure she got the
message, she placed her military tags in too. After closing the case, she
left the room, leaving no traces behind.
Part 13: (
KaraMeL)
Sam poked her head out of the
doorway. It was clear. Above the doorway, the lights darkened and the base
alarm system went on. The hallways were bathed in flashing red lights and
Sam moved through the shadows, avoiding all of the potential alarm systems
she might trigger. Unlike Maybourne, she was very intelligent and obviously,
somebody had neglected to tell him that she knew the complete info-structure,
blue-plans and security systems of Area 51. Sam ducked down, avoiding lights
that shone through open windows and doors. She stopped when she heard struggling.
“Sedate him you idiot.” Sam peered
into the open door and saw a convulsing figure. Sam poked her head in farther.
Daniel. Obviously, they had caught him. Wonderful. Sam winced apologetically.
She didn’t want to leave him, but she couldn’t afford any time. She had
to get out of the base and talk to somebody in authority. Sam scrambled
as footsteps approached her position. Sucking in a deep breath and scurrying
into the shadows, Sam found herself facing the same boots that she had seen
on her awakening. Maybourne.
“ Find her! She’ll ruin everything.
Hammond thinks their missing and I have the president breathing down my
back. He’s demanding some answers. We’ll have to abort the project if we
can’t find her...” The boots clomped into another direction and Sam found
herself wondering what that was all about... What about the box she had
found? What about the experimental medicine? Was Maybourne going to fulfill
his threat to shut down life support? Sam could already see the ravages
on Daniel. On top of that, none of this was getting easier... Sam crammed
her eyes closed and reopened them. She had to make her escape... now.
Teal’c sat up. There was a
silence that he had become unaccustomed to. He was used to the sounds of
the SGC, the blaring of alarms as once again they averted near disaster,
the arrival of teams off world, further more the constant hum that ran through
the facility like wild fire. Here, there was an eerie silence, like someone
or something was about to appear or happen. Teal’c mind took in all the
trees and the beautiful serene landscape. Sounds were starting to filter
in, birds in the trees, the distant sound of water... and children, children
playing. A rustle of leaves made him turn. Dray’ac.
“Husband...” Teal’c’s eyes brightened.
“Wife...” The two met, their hands
together. Teal’c looked at his beautiful wife. How had she come here to
earth? Dray’ac seemed to read his mind and smiled slightly.
“I came to visit you? O’Neill
came and took us here.” Teal’c frowned slightly. Us?
“Father!” Teal’c turned, his lower
waist tackled. Teal’c brought up the little ball of energy. His son. Teal’c
smiled and wrapped a hand around his wife. There was no doubt in his mind
that anything was wrong...
Daniel came to with a shuddering
breath.
“Sha’re?” He called out instinctively.
He knew full well that she wasn’t there. She was a memory now, no more than
a little blade of grass poking out of the endless landscape of snow.
“Dan-iel?” Daniel calmed his shuddering
breaths and looked at the source of the voice. The image was blurry and
unreal. It was then that he realized that he forgot to put on his glasses.
There was a soft giggle and Daniel watched as the watery figure went away
then came back. It moved closer and then gently placed a wire-framed object
on his nose.
“Sha’re?” Sha’re smiled in her
sly way. Daniel blinked as she blushed softly and walked to the door. Daniel
found his eyes wandering, searching her beautiful body for a secret. Sha’re
returned as quickly as she had left and offered him something.
“Thanks.” Daniel took the cup
and drowned its contents. Water. He looked at Sha’re for a minute, slightly
abashed that she had been staring at him in the first place.
“What are you doing here? I thought
Apophis had taken you?” Daniel faltered slightly, his eyes and gorge rising
with the words. Sha’re looked confused.
“I have not been anywhere Dan-iel.
My, you have been dreaming my husband. She laughed softly and kissed him
on the lips. Daniel opened his eyes wider. This was defiantly not real.
Sha’re stood up and took his hand. Daniel stood as well, wondering where
she was taking them. Sha’re led them to the next room and she sat on a smooth
and rounded stone, taking up a slab of what looked like granite and kneading
a wheat like grain. Daniel found another stone and took a seat.
“So my Dan-iel,” Sha’re started.
“Tell me about this dream you had.” Daniel smiled and reached for a freshly
baked piece of bread. Sha’re slapped his hand away. Daniel shrugged and
looked up at his wife. He felt silly now. Instead of telling her he leaned
her over and placed a kiss on his forehead. As he leant back, he froze.
There, beside Sha’re, on a blanket, Daniel could see a little baby curled
up.
Jack smiled at Sara. Today
was the fourth of July. Jack smiled fondly at Sara who hauled up a blanket
and basket. Jack frowned slightly; there was a member of the party missing.
“Charlie?” There was a thump on
the second floor and Jack rolled his eyes. Sara laughed.
“Don’t worry about him. He’s just
obsessed with finding that flag. Tell you what Jack, I’ll pack the car and
you help him find the flag.” Jack smiled fondly at his wife and took the
steps up two at a time. Jack poked his head into Charlie’s room, dismayed
to find it a regular pigsty. Jack opened the door, assuming a position of
complete disinterest. Charlie looked up, a sheepish smile gracing his fine
features.
“Hey dad.” Jack raised his eyes
in mock surprise.
“Hey dad? That’s all you can
say? You have to bribe me a little better if you don’t want me to tell your
mom.” Charlie grinned and looked at the now empty closet.
“I can’t imagine where I put
it dad. I’m sure it was here.” Jack watched as Charlie took an armful of
objects and tossed them into the closet.
“Guys! I’m going to leave you
here if you’re not down in five minutes.” Jack smiled and rolled his eyes.
“Okay Sara... we’ll be down in
a few.”
“There is a lovely cake with
my name on it!” Jack stuck his head out the door to stare at his pregnant
wife.
“To tell you the truth, I don’t
think you need it.” Sara laughed and threw a stuffed toy in his general
direction and Jack ducked. Jack turned back to Charlie and looked pointedly
on the bed. There, amidst all the clutter was the flag, neatly placed there
for Charlie to pick up. Charlie groaned and Jack smiled.
“Don’t worry about it. We’ll
clean it up when we get home.” Charlie grabbed the flag and raced past Jack
with a little ‘yippee!’ Jack shook his head and closed the door. Taking
his keys out, Jack took one look at the neat living room and locked the door,
approaching the car with his family inside.
Maybourne smiled, his palms
hugging the rim of the coffee cup. They had lost Carter but they still had
the Colonel, Teal’c and Dr. Jackson. In some sense, they could still do
what they needed to do before Carter could even reach anybody in the highest
authority that could actually stop this. Maybourne grinned again as he stared
at the three rooms, the steadily declining figures strapped to the beds.
Nobody could stop this experiment before SG-1 was permanently destroyed.
Part 14: (
KaEn)
Sam was cursing at herself,
she knew the blueprints, she had been in this place several times, but seemed
to get lost, every corner she turned. With that thought, she reached another
room. Lights were burning, but she didn't feel danger, so she entered. She
shouldn't have done that; she looked trough the windows, and saw their teammates
strapped to the bed. Sam froze.
" I thought I destroyed those
things..." A bang, and the door behind her shut.
" You did. But not good enough."
" Maybourne!"
" Glad to see you, Captain. "
" Why, how, who?"
" We kicked it again. Thanks
for showing us how, the contacts were a little bit loose. We fixed it, thanks
to you. "
" NO!" She stepped back, hitting
the wall in progress. Maybourne came closer and grabbed her hair.
" I want to thank you also, for
not informing the authorities. Now we can do to you, whatever we want."
He let loose, she dropped in the corner, repeating to herself:
"No, no, no, no..." Maybourne
smiled and left the room, locking the door behind him.
"The fun has just begun, Captain,
just begun."
Daniel was still telling Sha're
about his findings, as Kasuf entered. Behind him, he saw Skaara. He wanted
to get up, to hug them, telling them about him 'dream', but then he saw
the looks on their faces.
" What is it, father?" Sha're
asked.
" Jaffa, thousands of them. And
we have no weapons."
" Apophis?"
" One of them, yes.." Daniel
didn't know what struck him.
" One of them?"
" We have recognized ships of
Ra, Apophis, Heru'ur, Seth and more."
" Ra, he's dead."
" What do you mean, we only scared
him away."
" But the bomb, Jack and I we
destroyed him."
" You were alone, and you..."
That was the last thing Kasuf said. At least ten Jaffa had entered, shooting
wildly around them. One of the blasts hit Daniel.
Sam stood up, she had heard
the machines beeping, trough her tears, she saw the body jolting up and
down.
Daniel looked hit by staff weapons,
Jack showed bullet holes, and Teal’c's Prim'ta was lying on the floor, as
if it was removed. Suddenly they stopped moving, and the wounds faded away.
Sam was speechless. Then she picked up the chair and threw it trough the
glass. She stood at machines, hooked up to Teal'c and wanted to take the
helmet off. While she placed her hands around it, a door opened.
" I wouldn't do that if I was
you. We have connected the helmets with their brains, pulling it off, would
mean killing them. "
" Then what did you just do?"
" Experiments... By killing them
in their mind, they actually get killed here, but if we remove the thought
of being killed or being hurt."
" Then they heel. Perfect way
of questioning a person. "
" Clever, Captain, Now if
you would follow me. " She had no choice, the only thing she could do, was
hoping that Janet got the message.
" Doctor Fraiser."
" Yes, sir."
" Something has been delivered
to you, from Area 51. "
" Ah, yes, the medicines, I hope
we can heal Colonel Makepeace now. "
" Yes, but we have detected metal
in the case, so we have to get it cleared first. "
" Metal, medicines yes, in bottles,
or in packages, but metal."
" It's only for safety, it could
be a weapon, you are free to join us Doctor."
" Yes general. I'd love to."
" Lieutenant Simmons, would
you open the case please?"
" Yes sir. There are only little
bottles in it, sir."
" And the metal." He started to
unload the rest.
" Here it is, sir." He pulled
out some of the cables.
" What is that?"
" Not part of what I was supposed
to get."
" There's something else, sir.
It's the necklace of..."
" Who?" He swallowed
" Captain Carter."
Part 15: (
KaraMeL)
Daniel came to with a gasp. He could still smell the burned ozone as the staff weapon hit him dead on in the chest. Coughing weakly, Daniel patted his shirt, looking for any sighs of injury or personal harm. He found nothing. Instead, his hand hit a low ceiling; it was to cold and smooth to be a cave. Therefore, there was only one thing that he could be in. A sarcophagus. Daniel panicked suddenly. There was absolutely no way he could go through the horrors of with-drawl again... no way. Daniel pounded on the cover, kicking and efficiently weakening himself. Obviously, he wasn’t completely healed yet. As if answering his prayer, the cover stone grinded open and Daniel found himself looking at... no, it couldn’t be... it was Hathor.
“Charlie?” Jack coughed, as
the once warm day now seemed cold and intrusive. Jack staggered to the beach
and to the lake. Charlie had been there no less than a minute ago.
“Charlie? Charlie?” Jack called
out frantically to his son. He couldn’t lose his son; he couldn’t bear to
go through that loss again. Jack dropped to his knees, picking up the forgotten
ball that lay on the beach. Wincing as the movement pulled the wounds on
his shoulder and leg, Jack stood. He wasn’t going to let anyone take his
family again. He had done everything to stop them. They wanted money. For
the sake of his family, he had given them everything. That was obviously
not enough. They had shot him, twice. Sara had screamed as the bullets pierced
his body, causing him to black out for a second. Then they took Charlie.
The next thing he remembered was Sara telling him to stay still, she was
calling for help. Jack could taste the tears as she wept. He couldn’t let
her go through that again either. When Sara had left to find a phone he
had gotten up and managed to stagger to the crest of the hill. There, he
saw the boat; it was a late model and puttered away like a slow turtle.
Jack had seen as Charlie kicked the man. Then the man took Charlie and threw
him into the water.
“No-oo...” Jack could still hear
his choked cry. Charlie didn’t know how to swim. Jack had rolled down the
embankment, trying to reach his son, trying s hard. He didn’t want to lose
him.
“I’m coming Charlie...” Jack trailed
off from continuing his sentence and took his shirt off, wincing as he did
so. The shirt was already bright red and Jack felt slightly weakened. No.
He had to save Charlie. Jack dove into the water, pulling himself excruciatingly
towards the spot where he had last seen Charlie.
“Charlie?” Jack cried out. There
was no answer and the only result was the mouthful of water he received
for his effort. Finally, Jack reached the spot. With a sickening realization,
Jack knew where Charlie had gone. He had sank. Jack took a deep breath,
looking at the people starting to crowd at the shores. He could hear the
sirens now, coming closer. Jack knew they would be too late if he didn’t
go under.
“Jack!” He heard Sara. He couldn’t
give up now. He dove, the murky water dense and opaque. Jack clawed foreword
and thrust himself further and further, looking for Charlie. Jack felt the
air start to deplete. No! He couldn’t give up. Suddenly, his hand touched
something. It was an inert body. Jack grasped the shirt weakly and started
upwards. The combined pressure of swimming and grasp on Charlie made his
shoulder ache even further. Finally he felt his fingers brush open air.
With a release of bubbles, he reached the surface. Charlie! Jack tried to
pull him up, but sank himself, his arm finally caving in. Jack dove again,
pushing Charlie to the surface. With a gasp, Jack came to the surface again
and put Charlie’s body up to his. Banging weakly on Charlie’s chest, Jack
gasped fitfully as Charlie finally revived. Charlie struggled for a minute
until he realized that it was his father. Jack smiled slightly and Charlie
coughed. As soon as Jack was sure Charlie could float on his own, he let
go. He was so tired. So very tired. Jack smiled weakly and slipped under
the calm surface. He closed his eyes and his mouth opened, the release of
bubbles rising to the surface. Jack stared at the sun above and welcomed
the black arms of death, Sara’s scream still echoing in his ears.
Teal’c stared at the bloody Prim’ta. He felt oddly free and uncaring. He wavered and then the pain came. It was an odd feeling, like fire spreading across his forehead. A roaring penetrated his ears, like the wind in the storm season on Chulak. Teal’c blinked, willing it to pass. In the corner, Dray’ac sobbed. His son blinked with sympathy. Teal’c couldn’t move to wipe off the blood that ran through his eyes. The scribe that had preformed the ceremony snarled angrily. Teal’c should have cried out. The man grabbed a jar that contained some sort of liquid and stood menacingly over Teal’c. Teal’c stared at the man with a deep-set contempt. The man dumped the vile liquid on his forehead. At first, the pain was the same, suddenly it intensified and Teal’c struggled not to cry out. Instead of venting his pain, he held it in, until the merciful blackness took him far away.
Doctor Janet Fraiser walked
down the hall. She looked once again at the tags that she held, rubbing
the smooth metal with a security she didn’t feel. Sam had been off world,
in fact, Janet herself remembered that Sam had the tags on when she had
her check-up prior to the mission. Sam never took off her tags, never. To
Sam, they were a sign of her relationship and rank that gave her one-up
on the males of this military organization. Janet grasped the tags and knocked
on General Hammond’s door. There was no way that Sam’s tags could have come
from Area 51... Or could’ve they? Janet froze when she heard Hammond talking.
“I will not risk putting SG-1
through this Maybourne!” Janet gasped. Maybourne! He worked with Area 51,
was he behind SG-1’s mysterious disappearance?
“I don’t care if you have clearance
from the president!” I didn’t think the president had anything like VR or
torture on mind.” With a frustrated growl, Hammond slammed down the phone.
Janet blinked and wondered what was going on... Area 51? VR? Torture? This
was all to confusing, and she had a feeling General Hammond was way out
of her league this time.
Part 16: (
KaEn)
General Hammond laid back.
He couldn't talk to the president. He had tried it before, but the line
seemed to be occupied whole the time. Where was the time, he only wondered
about the Goa'uld crushing in? Now he had to face bureaucrats and senators.
He knew not all the people with clearance would be happy, when he first
assigned as Commanding Officer of the SGC. But that it would come to this...
he never suspected.
He sighted. He should have known.
The report that SG1 was dead, come too soon, like Maybourne couldn't wait.
He thought something was happening. But when he saw the cables, he knew
it for sure. That son of a bitch was too eager to have them. And now he
could do anything he wanted. He picked up the red phone again.
Maybourne heard the line disconnect.
Fury was raging inside him. He slammed the door open and gave his orders.
" Proceed to plan B." With that,
he left again. The scientist in the room gave the three men, who looked
horrified a sedative and disconnected them again. A couple of hallways further
he opened another door and he replaced the anger on his face, by a smile.
As he entered the room, he saw a young Captain, handcuffed to a chair. Instead
of seeing a helpless woman, he saw the anger and self trust in her eyes.
That only made him madder.
" So, Captain." He came closer.
She looked up to him, showing no fear, to the contrary as she felt.
" Seems that our good General
Hammond knows that you are here. Would you mind sharing?" With that news,
a little smile appeared on Sam's face, but she remained silent.
" He does also know that we have
used the gamekeepers knowledge. C'mon Captain, you've won, now tell us how."
" If you already lost, you don't
have to know how."
" Damn, I could still kill them
if I have to."
"You wont. You don't have the
guts."
" Oh, don’t be too sure. And by
the way... You haven't won yet. "
" Didn't think so."
The general sighted. He couldn't
get through. He wanted to send his people to Area 51, but he doesn't have
a reason. Last time SG1 joined the party there, he had gotten a serious
warning to keep away. Even the president concurred on that. But he just
couldn't let his people die. Maybourne had obviously denied the whole thing.
And he had given his cards away by telling him he knew they were in VR.
Suddenly the phone rang.
" Hammond."
"It's Maybourne, sir. To prove
we haven't done a thing to your team, I've called the bodies back from the
morgue, you’re free to come over and check." Although he knew it would be
a fraud, he gave in, and promised to come with the next plane.
Sam was rocking up and down
on her chair. She wanted to kick herself. She should of known it. Maybourne
had told the whole plan to her, to brag about his intelligence. And she
had to admit, it was clever. He had invited Hammond to see the bodies. Clones
of course. And with that he had proof,
that whatever message she had
gotten him, was a fake .And she knew a dead body would override some tags.
And the worst part was, that she got to see it all. The general just walked
past her, in the other room. She could see his face, and could tell he was
shocked seeing the bodies. He walked over to Jack... his clone and touched
him, just to remove him hand from the cold skin.
"See sir?" Maybourne walked over
to him. " No VR, no SG1, no fraud." Hammond nodded. Then he saw that Carter's
clones' eyes were open. He walked over to her, and closed them, when he
saw the tags hanging around her neck.
Part 17: (
KaraMeL)
General Hammond blinked. Obviously this wasn’t SG-1. Sam wouldn’t have had her tags and she certainly didn’t look alive. The only question was, was where had the other tags come from? The General looked at the dead and stiff clones. At least he still knew SG-1 was off world, and hopefully safe. Maybourne swept his arm through the doorway and the General took the hint. Looking one last time at the dead bodies, The general made a silent plea to figure out what the hell was happening. Unnoticed to Hammond, Maybourne made a mock salute to a mirror glass at the far end of the room.
Sam grunted in frustration.
Maybourne had been smart to put a gag over her mouth. By the time she had
managed to get it off, the General had already left. Sam would have gladly
risked her life to get them out of this place. This was one strange freak
show Maybourne was putting on. Sam blinked and shifted slightly, looking
at the adjoining room, where SG-1, the real SG-1 was being held. Jack was
tightly strapped, as was Daniel and Teal’c, to the bed. All of them seemed
to be in pain. Daniel had a thin sheen of sweat covering his uncovered skin.
Even from this distance, Sam could see it. She wondered what hellhole Maybourne
had sent him to. The weasel of a man had never like Daniel, especially after
incident with the advanced race, the Tollans, from the doomed planet. Actually,
Sam reflected, Maybourne really didn’t like any of them. Jack was also looking
decidedly pale. Sam hoped he was okay as well. After all, he was her Commanding
Officer. Teal’c didn’t look and different than usual, Sam noticed that every
once in a while his eyebrows would twitch. Very un-Teal’c like. Sam didn’t
even turn when she heard the knob of the door turn. She knew it was Maybourne,
and that information was enough to make her feel sick. Maybourne knelt at
her side and turned his head in the direction where she was looking at.
“Isn’t that sweet. Captain Carter,
I believe that you have a soft spot for your team members.” Sam looked at
him. His patronizing expression made her angry. Really, really angry.
“I don’t like you Maybourne,”
she hissed. “And something tells me I never will.” Maybourne laughed and
tapped her lightly on the cheek.
“That is such a shame. I wonder
what Daniel Jackson would think if I ‘accidentally’ killed you in his simulation?
How would you like to play a starring role captain?” Sam widened her eyes.
“You can’t do that.” Maybourne
smiled sourly.
“But I can.” Sam stared at his
retreating back as he went to get some doctors. He knew she would be undone
by watching Daniel suffer. On top of that, she didn’t know what would happen
if she got killed in a VR world. Theoretically when killed, a person would
become trapped. Unless of course they weren’t tethered. Tethered meaning
connected to the other reality. Daniel, Jack and Teal’c were all tethered
by the medical cables and wires. If she had heard correctly. This form of
VR was a mock up of the Gamekeepers. Since Maybourne was the gamekeeper,
or rather prided himself to be, Sam realized that he would be completely
free of these tethers. Therefore, if Maybourne was killed, he would be trapped
in the VR world. An interesting fact. Sam realized that she would mostly
be connected. This gave had a very narrow space to work with. She needed
to tell Daniel, or Jack or Teal’c, or whoever was in the simulation this
information. She had a feeling Maybourne was going to do everything possible
to harm the SG-1 team. Maybourne entered the room again, this time aided
by three doctors. Sam closed her eyes as they unshackled her and led her
into the room with SG-1. She really didn’t like that man...
Daniel sank to his knees. The
pain was incredible.
“You fool.” Hathor sneered and
leaned closer. Daniel could smell her breath and feel the warmth caress
his cheek. This was definitely not good. The pulsating crystal above her
intensified and Daniel found tears creeping down the sides of his cheeks.
As he was just about to pass out, Hathor stopped. Daniel felt as if a great
weight had lifted off his shoulders. He wasn’t even aware that he had collapsed
until he had moved his head to feel the gravel underneath his cheek. He
watched with fascination as the golden sand colored gavel started to turn
bright red with his blood. Daniel closed his eyes. Why was Hathor doing
this to him? What had he done to displease her? Daniel couldn’t move, even
the simple task of breathing was an effort. He suspected that he must have
some internal injury as well. Peachy. Daniel coughed and winced as he felt
a bone grind. Obviously, something was broken as well. Hathor must have
really hated him... Hathor’s elaborately decorated shoes came into view
and she reached down, grabbing the archeologist by the lapels. This movement
made breathing even more difficult and he winced, feebly banging at her
fists. Hathor flung him to two guards who grabbed him by the arms. Daniel
coughed again. He could taste the coppery metal taste of blood on his lips.
The two soldiers forced him to look upwards. There, in the center of the
room, Daniel saw a blurry figure led to the top of the steps. Without he
glasses, he really couldn’t make out anything. The serpent guard that help
his right arm grunted and roughly shoved something on his nose. At first
Daniel thought they were trying to suffocate him until he realized the objects
were made of glass and had wire frames. His glasses. Daniel squinted slightly.
The figure was alone now. He could see Hathor whispering into the person’s
ear. Daniel focused and finally recognized the face. It was Sam.
Part 18: (
KaEn)
Sam could feel the cold breath
of Hathor, she didn't understand what she just said, but was sure she wouldn't
like it. She looked around; it looked just like Abydos, that Daniel wouldn't
recognize it.
Talk about Daniel, where is he?
She looked around, no guards, no persons, and no eunuchs to spy on them.
Could Maybourne get any more reckless? Then she realized that they were
probably following them in another way. Because they had heard when she
was telling SG1 about her suspicions, and pulled her out.
Suddenly she saw Daniel, sitting
in a corner, staring at her. What had they done to him? He was bleeding
and looked more dead then alive. But he rose anyway. Sam came closer to
help him, but when she touched his arms, to pull him further up, he kicked
her legs away, so she fell to the hard ground.
" What the...? Daniel?"
" You are the one that made my
queen mad. I will make sure, she will have no further reason." And he started
banging his fists in her face. She could get away soon, Daniel never was
a good fighter, but she knew she had to do something, or they would both
die, she by Daniel, who wouldn't give up, and he, by his many wounds. She
totally forgot it was only a simulation. In her hand, a zat gun appeared.
As she dove to evade Daniel's next punch, she knew she had to fire. And
she did. As the felt Maybourne smiling, she pulled the trigger, pretending
she was shooting the mean colonel. Daniel fell down on the floor, the shock
hurt terribly, but realizing he had fought his best friend, didn't make
him feel better. The pain faded away quickly, but it was soon replaced by
another, more devastating feeling. Behind the still lying Captain, the figure
of Ra came closer. As she turned around to see, what had made Daniel so
exited, she stared into the glowing eyes of a System Lord, who she didn't
recognized. Ra raised his hand, and the ribbon devise made her fly across
the room, crashing onto a wall, right above Daniel, who couldn't jump up
in time. As he closed his eyes for a final breath, he felt the dead body
of Sam landing on top off him.
" AAAAAAAARGH" She jumped up,
taking heavy breaths. The first person she saw, was Maybourne. She realized
it had all been fiction, and was mad, because it had felt so real. She felt
the anger, she even felt the bones breaking when she hit the wall, and it
had felt terrible, she never wanted to experience it again, but something
told her, she would... As he saw her coming to, he smiled again. Oh, this
felt so great, the 4 persons who he hated so much, who had made him jealous
so often, who had humiliated him at so many occasions, were in his hands.
And he could do everything he wanted. No one knew. After showing Hammond
the dead bodies, he was sure, nobody suspected a thing. He was about to
say something to her, rubbing it in, as she struck him in the face. Her
restraints had come loose, when she jumped up so powerful. But that didn't
even spoil his fun.
” What have we know Captain? You
know striking an officer it the way to get court martialed."
" Who cares, everybody thinks
I'm dead anyway. " As she struggled to get looser, he grabbed her wrists
and pushed her back, so the doctors could restrain her again.
" Make sure it's a lot more tight
this time." He still sat on top off her, Sam wondered of she could get her
knee up, just a little bit higher, but the other restrains holding her immobile.
" So, why aren't I still there?"
" We only have 4 helmets, and
we have to have a spare. It was the first and last time you died there,
but I won't say a thing about here....”
Hammond knew eavesdropping
wasn't exactly a General was supposed to do. But he had to hear something
about his team. And door number two brought luck. He overheard two scientists
talking about how they fixed the 'VR' machine, thanks to the help of that
blond. He knew it was about Sam in a second. That's how she got the cables,
and her tags were to make sure they got the message. Damn, he couldn't do
a thing. He had dropped his "guide" somewhere, but it was a matter of time
before he would came to and alarm the rest. And he sure he was trespassing.
Niveau 3. That's where he had to go. He bent down and recovered his weapon
that he had hidden. These marines hadn't much of a security system. Now,
level three, how must he get there?
Part 19: (
KaraMeL)
“Fool! Pick up the human. Take
him to my chambers.” Daniel coughed weakly as he finally regained his breath.
Whatever or whoever had hit him really packed a punch. At first had been
sure that he had been fighting Hathor. He could still smell her breath and
feel the touch of her fingers as she manhandled him like he was a particularly
fine piece of meat. Daniel had then found himself alone. Of course, Daniel
knew all too well that the queen would never leave him alone and he resolved
to himself that he wouldn’t let her put him under his control again. At
least he had made good to that promise. She had came in, looking, and searching,
probably for him, and when she had spotted him, she had smiled. Oddly, it
was one of relief and of joy, like she was some sort of person he knew.
The first thing he had done was lash out. He might have looked defenseless
and weak, but he felt string and ready to give Hathor one for the books.
There was absolutely no way he was going to betray Sam, Teal’c and Jack
again. Well, it turned out that he was actually beating up on Sam. It figured,
the only act of defiance, and he managed to screw it up. Thankfully, Sam
had managed to stop him with a Zat blast. There, lying on the floor, feeling
like a complete fool, he saw the ancient god Ra come up from behind Sam.
He wished that he could have said something, to have reached out and did
something. Instead, as usual, he was an idiot and screwed it up. Sam had
been practically crushed against the wall when Ra’s blast had hit her. Daniel
remembered the pain when Sam slammed into him, lifeless and dead, her eyes
wide open, chest stilled in the illusion of death and mouth, dark red with
blood, an ‘O’ of surprise still plastered on her face. Daniel had been wheezing
and spluttering, it was bad enough that he couldn’t breath due to the torture
he had undergone. When Sam had landed on him he couldn’t even wheeze out
a name, something that would make his death significant in any way. As soon
as he had stopped breathing, the weight on his chest had disappeared. Daniel
found that he could breath again, and now Sam was dead and he was being
dragged on the floor like a second hand commodity. Great. He was a dust
mop. Daniel groaned weakly. His chest felt on fire. What the hell was this.
Words and sounds and pictures all coalesced into one and Daniel opened his
eyes, only to close them again when a shock of bright lights and swirling
images interceded common sense. Daniel slowed his breathing, adding to the
illusion of sleep. The least he could do with listen for some sort of information.
Over his head, Daniel could hear Hathor and another person arguing amongst
themselves.
“What do you mean?”
“We have to be careful. We can’t
let them find out.”
“You idiot. She could have been
killed.” Daniel struggled to hear what they were saying. What were they
talking about? Careful? Goa’ulds were NEVER careful. Daniel reflected a
bit, Goa’ulds were never ever worried about others either. Just what the
hell was going on? Daniel tried to stay awake but the yammering voices increased
in volume then faded into the blackness that had been so familiar.
*beep*
“Oh god.” Jack whispered. It seemed
like he had been asleep for the last week
*beep*
“Jack? Jack are you awake?” Jack
tried to turn to the voice but he was completely immobilized.
*beep*
“Will somebody turn off that stupid
machine?” Jack whispered. Jeez, everything was one sentient pain. A dull
ache rose from his thigh and a sharp shooting pain made its presence know
with every beat of his heart. What was the stupid machine still doing on?
*beep*
“Okay Jack. Lie still. I’m going
to get the doctor.” Jack could hear the tapping of heels as the person who
had been holding their vigil walking somewhere. Jack distinctly heard the
closing and opening of a door. The stupid machine was STILL on.
*beep*
“Dad?” Jack shifted, fighting
back and exclamation of pain. When was the agony going to end? Jack blinked,
wincing as the overhead lights made his vision swim. Jack blinked again,
the remainder of the loop-to-loop motion now fading back into iridescent
black dots.
*beep*
“Hey.” His voice sounded gravelly
and uncoordinated. At least he could feel all his limbs and he was warm,
that was a little more than he could say for the few time he could account
for in ‘nam. Jack focused on the small figure seated on the bench. Jack
smiled weakly.
“Hey Charlie...”
*beep*
Jack frowned. This was the number
one reason he hated hospitals.
“Hey Charlie. Do me a favor and
shut that monitor off.” Charlie looked at him and Jack gave him a little
shrug.
“Please?” Charlie smiled and
reached over, plucking at the machine until the screen dimmed and finally
flickered to a close. Charlie leaned back, his eyes never leaving his father’s
form.
“How are you feeling Dad?” Jack
shrugged. A Futile gesture never really meant to be intended in light of
these past circumstances. Jack looked at his son.
“Nah. Nothing your old man couldn’t
handle.” Charlie smiled. Jack’s eyes flickered to the door where he saw
Sara walk in. By her side, and older doctor that absurdly looked and older
version of peewee Herman. Jack had to stifle a laugh. Charlie looked at
him with a strange glance. Jack shrugged slightly. Wincing as the movement
made a live wire of pain run through his body.
“Mr. O’Neill? I am your current
physician, Dr. Herbert.” Jack looked at the man. Behind him, Jack looked
at Sara. Her eyes glistened with unshed tears and she was biting her fist.
Jack wondered what was wrong.
“Mr. O’Neill. I’m sorry, we have
some very bad news...”
Dr. Janet Fraiser looked up
from under her cap. It sufficiently covered her hair, but augmenting her
face so Maybourne wouldn’t recognize her was a completely different story.
Instead of just sparing herself the trouble of doing a whole makeover, Janet
opted for a change in body color. Using a specially formulated chemical
compound, she altered her skin color, from a pale white to a decidedly Asian
look. Janet looked once more in the mirror. At least, if she were caught,
the color wouldn’t rub off. Janet looked at the approaching gates. She could
see three men step out of a guardhouse and go towards her truck. Thanks
to some friends in the complex, she had managed to rig up not only an excuse,
but official documents of a transfer to the Area 51 facility. Janet looked
at the three men and was suddenly hit with an overdose of anxiety. “The
things I do for my patients,” she whispered softly to herself as she rolled
open the window and faced the three guards.
Part 20: (
KaEn)
“Damn, I knew I should have checked some plans before I got here...” Hammond was getting mad at himself. He found niveau 3, but the passageways were heavily guarded, and he wasn't cleared. He was getting to damn old for this junk. Finally, a room with no guards. He entered and saw why... piles of alien technology that they probably didn't understand. And there in the corner, he saw Machello's switcher.
Janet got past the three guards, she still didn't know how. Her guide was telling her about the importance of foreign technology. She knew he wasn't talking bout Russian weapons, but as far as they knew, she was just a messenger, with no Intel on any worlds beyond this one. She had made herself clear, the papers were important, and she wouldn't give it to anyone but Maybourne. But of course, he was paying attention to more important matters and she had to wait in the hallway, in front of his office. She couldn't go and sneak around, because her guide was watching her.
The alarm bells sounded again.
Maybourne was with Sam.
“Other unexpected visitors, Maybourne?
I though I was the only one invited for our exclusive chat.”
“You spend to much time with O'Neill.
It's Hammond.”
“Alright sir.” She started feeling
more optimistic.
“Shut up. We found his guard.
He must be here for SG1. How did you find a way to tell him.”
“I didn't. Your salute, maybe.”
He struck her in the face.
“I told you spending to much
time with O'Neill could be painful. Now tell me.”
“I don’t know, and even if I
would I wouldn't tell you. Yes, yes I know, Now tell me. Or I'll let you
have another try on the machine.” She remembered the pain, the horror of
seeing Daniel get hurt. But she shrugged her shoulders, like she didn't
care. Maybourne looked through the window, to the dead simulations of SG1.
“See captain, that's how I like
to see you guys the best. And I won’t rest, until my dream comes true.”
“I'm sure you wont.” As Maybourne
went to strike her again, the door opened. A young soldier came in, with
good news.
“We found him, actually, lieutenant
Roberts did. He was hiding out in the old storage room.”
“Thank you, I'll follow you in
a moment.” He turned back to Carter.
“See, it's already coming true.”
“Good work, Roberts.”
“Thank you sir. He was yelling
something about ' I work here, I'm not Hammond.”
“Well, that's our cover for the
president, the realization of seeing his team dead, drove him nuts.”
“Yes, sir.” Roberts left the room.
He was feeling giddy. Stupid marines, the only thing wrong with the machine,
were some loose wires. He sure was glad Carter explained it to him. He opened
another door.
Men, this soldier is fit. I haven't
felt like this in ages. He jumped, knees working. He could see why Machello
invented this machine. But he wasn't feeling to well, not feeling himself
at the moment.
He smiled at himself in the reflection
of the mirror, but didn't recognize the face. Wow this is confusing.
“Mirrors... Why would there be
a mirror in a room with dead bodies?” He looked at his team.
“Damn, that I didn't think of
that before.” He muttered under his breath and left the room.
Jack was still lying in the
hospital bed. After lying in hearing the doctor speak, he couldn't come
to his senses. His legs. He had felt bad with an arrow in his shoulder,
but that went away. His legs were gone, permanently. He wouldn't be able
to play football with Charlie, walk next to Sara in the park, drive his
car, work. Every thing he had or wanted was gone, gone forever. He would
get a wheel chair, and maybe after a time, metal legs. The thought resented
him. He... he didn't want to admit this was happening, but the look on the
blanket, that went down from waist down, was all the reality he needed.
Part 21: (
KaraMeL)
Daniel blinked slowly, his eyes getting irritated at the dust that accumulated around him. He could feel his sinus’ clog up. Wonderful. He was in a dust ball, or at least that was what it felt like. Daniel blinked rapidly. He could already feel his eyes water with the increased amount of this stuff. If he had had his medicine, he probably would have been better off. Daniel blindly waved his hand around, wincing as a loud metallic ring rebriverated through the air. That hurt his ears. Okay, that was obviously not natural. The metal either meant he was in some sort of compound on the planet he had been on or he had been transported elsewhere... like a ship. Daniel got onto his hands and knees, wincing as his head hit the ceiling. Great, it was also low roofed too. Daniel shuffled foreword, only to bang into another wall. Daniel became increasingly panicked. This was not good. Daniel hit the walls and yelled. Then he realized where he was, or rather what he was in. A sarcophagus.
Teal’c opened his eyes. A steady coursing fire made its way across his forehead, but he could feel his symbiote healing and lending him much needed strength. He was still tired and weak. After two days locked in this cell, no word from his family or any food, the only thing he survived upon was the small window that helped him pass the time. From it, he could hear birds and a constant shaft of light constantly warmed the cell. Even in night, he could see one bright star, and he would wonder where he was. There was so much to do in the galaxy, and Teal’c found his hold on sanity slipping. There was only so much a Jaffa could do against this type of torture. If it was pain, the physical type, Teal’c could withstand it, but not being able to see his Family or even the outside world was frightening. Teal’c sat p against the wall, listening to the sounds of night approaching.
“What do you mean?” Jack yelled.
The nurse backed up nervously.
“Okay Mr. O’Neill. I will insist
you calm yourself or I will have to call Dr. Moore.” Jack looked slightly
pissed at the prospect and shouted even more angrily at the nurse.
“Screw Dr. Moore. I couldn’t care
less if you came down and sedated me. Wait,” Jack shouted with a maniac
type laugh, why don’t you freaken stick a needle in my ass, topped with
cyanide? Huh? What’s one less freaken limbless guy in this world? Huh? Why
don’t you answer me?” The nurse stared at him with wide eyes, her lips moving.
Jack stared at her, noticing the unshed tears that seemed to make her eyes
shimmer. Jack watched as she turned heel and ran through the door. With
the last of his out burst fading, Jack shouted after her fleeting figure.
“Wait!” She didn’t though, and
Jack found himself alone again. He didn’t even remember why he had started
in the first place. Not only was he short of two legs, he was short of temper
too.
“Mr. O’Neill. I will tell you
once more to stop upsetting the nurses or I will have you moved to the suicidal
ward. I’m sure you would love it there.” The head nurse scowled at the mess
Jack had made, flung breakfast and pieces of dishes lay strewn over the
floor and Jack found himself feeling mortified at his actions. Instead of
looking his emotions, Jack stared defiantly at the nurse. He scowled even
harder.
“Why don’t you try and cut off
your legs. I’m sure you would love it.” The nurse screwed her lips into
a scowl. She looked down the hallway; apparently satisfied that it was empty.
She then closed the door and took a seat across from O’Neill.
“There have been a lot worse
cases in this hospital. There have been people who have died. There have
been people without insurance and family members to care for them. You are
lucky. It’s a damn shame that people less fortunate that you don’t have
the same luxuries. I hope you’re ready for visitors because you have one.”
Jack opened his mouth to retort and gave up when she left. Jack scowled
silently and looked at the wall, not caring who the hell was there when
they came in.
General Hammond, or rather
Roberts, walked down the hallway. He felt oddly perturbed that nobody had
noticed any thing yet. But, of course, he looked like Roberts, and no one
could condemn him for that. They wouldn’t figure it out. He looked down
the halls, hoping that he wouldn’t get caught. Suddenly, the alarms sounded
and Hammond cringed as a medical team Hammond wondered where they were off
to. It wasn’t like there was any dangerous stuff around, well, except alien
technology. Hammond smiled slightly and looked at his hands, free of the
wrinkles of age. Well, there was some use for the stuff. Hammond took off
after the team, happy that he had his strength and vitality back. Hammond
stopped as the team flew into a doorway. They stared immediately, and Hammond
could hear their shouts.
“Give him an oxygen mask, he’s
hyperventilating!”
“One milligram of Eppie...”
“Give me a sedative, he needs
to be calmed down!” Hammond peered through the door, intent on seeing whom
this man was. Suddenly, a figure walked to the bed and the medical team
fell silent, their eyes on the newcomer, the gasping man forgotten. Maybourne,
the dark figure himself, took a needle out of his pocket, stuck it into
the man’s arm and the room was silent except for the gradual diminishing
of the man on the bed’s breathing. Maybourne looked at the doctors.
“I guess that was a little much
for him.” The doctors followed him out of the room and Hammond finally got
a clear look at the man, his face still partially covered with a breathing
apparatus. It was Daniel Jackson.
Part 22: (KaEn)
" What the hell happened? I
thought you were heeling him in that sarcophagus thing. He's supposed to
get better after it."
" Yes, but he nearly had a stroke,
of fear. And that we can't stop. Not there..."
" Anyway, is he going to be fine?"
Roberts at the door smiled, he hadn't seen the sensitive type in Maybourne.
" Yes." Hammond and Maybourne
sighted at the same time.
" Then give him some happy memories,
to get his blood pressure down. Maybourne left the room, crashing into Hammond.
" What are you doing here? I
gave you the order to guard Captain Carter a half hour ago."
" Yes sir. " Hammond was glad
he wasn't caught and started walking.
" The other way, idiot. The door
with the NO ENTERY sign???”
"Yes, sir." Maybourne shook his
head while passing him. Good personal these days... Hammond grinned as he
opened the door. As Maybourne would know..., but his face changed when he
saw his captain, strapped to the chair, with several bruises.
" My new watchdog. Pull up a
chair and have some fun, I won't be able to play cards, but you'll manage.."
Teal'c slipped in a deep state of kel'no'rem. He hoped it would be easier to pass time. He had no candles to fix on, but was happy to see the one star that he could rely on. Every time it went dark, there it was. As he was in a deep state of trance, he didn't hear the door open..
Daniel was pulled out of the
sarcophagus. Their he saw the Tok'ra, Martouf and some others.
" Good to see you are fine Daniel
Jackson. "
" Do I know you?"
" No, but we know you. You once
banished Ra, but no he has returned. We, and the Asgard, have removed them
once and for all.
" Glad to hear that." Daniel
didn't understand a word Martouf was saying. Asgard? Ra? He didn't
even know his name. The strange
person, with the glowing eyes called him Daniel Jackson. But who the hell
was that?
" We also found your wife."
" My what?"
" Your wife.. Sha're." That name
he did recognize and turned around just in time to grab her when
she came running towards him.
Maybe it'll turn out good after all...
" Captain?"
" yes."
" This may sound as a surprise,
but I'm General Hammond." She started laughing.
" Well, with all due respect then..
get the hell out my room, you're blocking my view, sir"
" Sam, I'm ain't joking. "
" Neither do I, you're really
blocking my view. " " Captain, You are Samantha Carter, captain of the
USAF.." He stopped a second.
" Your father's name is General
Jacob Carter and is now blended with Selmac. He had cancer."
" Even Maybourne knows that."
" Does he also know, you send
the SGC your tags in box of medicine for Janet?" She still shrugged her
shoulders. He kept quiet for a while. Then he got it.
"That Cassie won the junior price
for artists, and you got the ribbon, as thanks?" She looked up.
"Sir? Is it really you? How? "
" Machello's machine." She nodded.
" But how did you know? I saw
you with the dead bodies."
" I saw your tags. The same I
was holding in the SGC."
" What now?"
" We save the day. Now fill me
in." She started telling about the machines and the torture. Hammond felt
his stomach rumble.
" Now how do we save the day?"
" Machello's machine."
" Sir?"
" The same way as I did, I'll
let you escape. You run to the lab and switch."
" Then you take the blame."
" Not if I get you back." He
undid the restraints and the handcuffs. She stretched a little while, her
muscles were stiff, but that wasn't gonna be her problem anymore. She felt
sorry for the person who got her body.
" And captain?"
" Yes? "
" Pick a nice name, I don't like
calling you soldier.."
Part 23: (
KaraMeL)
Jack scowled at the white ceiling.
He really, really hated hospitals. Jack wondered when they were going to
bring in this ‘guest.’ The door opened and Jack refused to look. At least
he was going to get some enjoyment of hearing this person’s uncomfortableness.
That was the least pain he could inflict. Jack could see a shadow out of
the corner of his eye start to approach him. Jack blinked slightly and growled
as he shifted to see the person. He wasn’t going to get anything out of
being stubborn. Jack narrowed his eyes against the light and tilted his
head. Some sort of blond goddess was standing at the back of his bed; her
eyes filled with a sympathy and empathy that belied her years.
“What do you want?” Jack didn’t
mean to sound disgruntled, but he couldn’t watch the woman look at him as
if he were a homeless person. Sympathy wouldn’t give him back his legs.
The woman went over to his bed and looked at his papers and IV’s. Jack was
about to shoot another smart remark when the woman turned.
“Look Colonel,” Jack started,
nobody had called him that for a while. “You have to trust me on this one.
Stand up.” Jack laughed bitterly.
“Yeah, right.” He gestured to
his legs, or rather what was left of them. “And pray tell me how I’m supposed
to do that?” The woman looked at the door.
“Look... Jack... This is a simulation.
It’s all a simulation. Do you remember the Gamekeeper’s world...? Oh forget
it.” The woman looked irritated. She flung off his bedclothes and pointed
to his lower torso. “Stand!” she insisted. Jack looked at the woman as if
she were nuts. She pulled on his arm and Jack swallowed back a curse. The
woman looked at the door, then back at the IV’s. Looking at Jack’s arm,
she grabbed the IV and yanked it out, non-too gently. Jack scowled and watched
as his arm started to bleed. He looked at the blond and found the wound
closing. The skin folded upon itself and Jack widened his eyes, the blood
also sank into his skin and Jack looked up wordlessly at the Woman.
“Now do you believe me?” she
inquired.
Teal’c sat on the floor, the
small sliver of moonlight playing on his face. The door opened, and for
a moment, he wondered if he were hallucinating. Teal’c opened his eyes a
crack, suddenly alert as a shadow slipped into the room. The shadow stopped,
a swirling of dark material marking where it stood. Teal’c made no move,
the person, or rather thing, stooped over and Teal’c lashed out, catching
the thing by it’s arm. The person, Teal’c was sure now, let out a strangled
cry and the hood slipped off. Teal’c watched as a woman looked up at him,
a shock of bright blond hair spilling outwards. Teal’c shifted his head
and blinked. The woman put a finger to her mouth and Teal’c decided she
looked slightly familiar, but no woman on Chulack had blond hair. The woman
leant over.
“Teal’c,” What sorcery was this?
The woman knew his name. “You need to find the exit out of this place. It’s
a simulation.” Teal’c raised an eyebrow.” The woman looked at the small
window.
“How am I to believe you.” The
woman looked down at a small device she was holding, a red light blipped
and she looked up.
“The door was open Teal’c.” She
opened her mouth to say more before she dissolved into the surrounding air.
Teal’c looked at the heavy wooden door, it was ajar and he could see the
corridors beyond. Taking a calculated pause, Teal’c stepped into the hallway.
Sam blinked as the figure of
the newly transformed General Hammond shimmered above her. The timer in
her hand beeped. She had a minute before she could see Daniel.
“Well, Jack wasn’t that forthcoming,
but he’s trying. Teal’c is going and I still have to see about Daniel.”
The General nodded, his youthful face so odd. Sam adjusted the headset.
This was the only way they would be able to help Daniel, Jack and Teal’c.
She glanced at the timer and pulled in a deep breath as the counter counted
down and she was once again transferred into another mind of another friend.
Daniel blinked as the rings
vanished and he staggered, the lightheaded feeling that had been accompanying
him, spreading across his temples. The Tok’ra caught his arm and Daniel
smiled in return. This was so unreal, the shimmering tunnels, the ‘good’
Goa’uld, so much information, so little time. Beside him, Sha’re gave him
a little peck on the cheek. He smiled fondly and stumbled foreword as the
Tok’ra took off, him in tow.
“Where are we going?” He stuttered.
He still wasn’t fully recovered. The man who had first introduced himself,
Martouf, spoke up.
“We are going to see Garshaw.
She is the ‘leader’ of our group. She was the first one to make contact
with the Asgard. She will decide your fate.” Beside him, Sha’re smiled.
Daniel felt confused. Fate? Leader? He shrugged to himself and came to a
stop as the Tok’ra came to a large hallway. There, back turned towards them,
there was a woman. Daniel stepped foreword, his eyes narrowing. The woman
turned and Daniel’s eyes widened. The woman in front of him was a Goa’uld.
As the fire in her eyes died away, she flickered her gaze between Martouf
and Daniel and Sha’re. Daniel swallowed and his eyes looked at the object
in her palm. So familiar, the red glow of numbers counted down and the woman
spoke, he voice resembling that of a human’s.
“Daniel. You must find a way
out. This is all a big hoax. Remember the gamekeeper. Daniel tilted his
head slightly and the woman shimmered. “Please Dan...” The woman disappeared
and Daniel looked at the figures behind him. They hadn’t noticed the woman’s
disappearance. Odd. The blond woman was no more. Daniel looked at the iridescent
tunnel and back at his wife and saviors. What was going on?
Part 24: (
KaEn)
She pulled the helmet off.
" Now all we got to do, is wait.
"
" Captain, you should go."
" Why?"
" In case you didn't notice,
we knocked 3 guards, 5 doctors, and 4 other people down. They're gonna notice
it."
"I can't leave them behind, or
you."
" I can say you knocked me down,
I did it before."
" Whoa, I got a head-ache the
size of Oklahoma." One of the figures on the beds started to move. His hands
reached directly to his head and removed the helmet.
" Sir."
" Colonel." They smiled at the
look on his face. He realized where he had been, but also started to remember
the SGC.
" Carter, where am I."
" Captain, leave I'll explain
everything." She nodded and left. From the hallway, she could hear them
talking.
" YOU'RE WHO ?????"
She went directly to the storage
room, but halfway there the alarms started.
" Damn." She was glad the general
had given her a gun, but how many soldiers could she take with so less bullets?
Then she got an idea. She ran directly to one of Maybourne’s offices, rammed
the door, and waited in the corner of the room. A few minutes later he arrived...
Hammond could hear the boots in the hallway. He was surprised so hear there were so many left, after knocking down a dozen. To protect a couple of scientists... The door opened and he fell down. The soldiers entered, checked his heartbeat, and secured the beds, but they didn't see that one of the beds was empty. Daniel woke up. One of the marines knocked him down, and yelled for the doctors.
Janet was getting bored. Now
she could hear alarms, so Maybourne wouldn't be joining her in a while.
But there he came, marching fast, like someone was following him.
" Sir, someone has documents for
you. " while cursing on the inside, he came closer to Janet. Her heart was
beating at an unhealthy rate, but she couldn't control it. A second, she
thought she saw a recognizing glare in his eyes, but when he addressed her
with the fake name, she calmed down.
" It's a nice day outside, let's
discuss it further there. Soldier, if someone looks for me, I'm outside."
As the young man saluted, they left the facility.
" Sir, I forgot the documents..."
" Don't mind, Janet."
" You recognized me? "
" I wouldn't be a good friend
if I didn't."
" Who, or what are you?"
" Janet, it's me, Sam."
" Yeah, and your married to the
pope."
" I'm not kidding. Remember Machello?"
" Yes, he switched with Daniel
and.... Sam?" Maybourne smiled in a way only Sam could do. Janet decided
to believe her.
" So, what now?"
" Now we save the day."
" I'm ordering you to leave
me alone. Let me go!" Three soldiers were carrying the body of Captain Carter.
" Let me go."
" Captain Carter, I would advise
to stop working against us. It could be very painful."
" I'm Colonel Maybourne, don't
you recognize me?"
" We'll bring a mirror later,
now calm down." They threw him in a cellblock that looked like the one they
had held Daniel in.
" Where's Maybourne?"
" I don't know."
" Upstairs said he just left
the base. Roberts, that makes you in charge." With a smile on his face,
Hammond ordered to disconnect SG1 and bring them to separate cellblocks.
As she leant back in her chair,
Sam started thinking. She had send Janet back to the SGC, to inform whoever
was in charge. She was on a plane to Washington. She didn't know whom to
trust anymore, so she went right to the source. With all the corrupt senators,
who else to turn to? She had to admit there were some benefits being Maybourne.
The meeting was directly settled and she got to fly first class. And for
an old colonel, he was pretty fit. His after-shave was a little less pleasant,
but she had a chance to free SG1 within 24 hours, so she could to sick from
the smell.
Part 25: (
KaraMeL)
Daniel blinked rapidly as the
room coalesced into one shape. Above him, He could see two concerned faces
looking down at him. Daniel squinted. Actually, it was three. Daniel levered
himself up, the room doing a merry little dance before it shifted and was
right once more.
“Hey Danny! How ya doing?” Daniel
shook his head slightly and pinched his nose. Was he in the real reality
now? Was he with the real... whoever they were? Daniel opened his eyes wider
and looked at the three concerned figures.
“Uh... yeah. I think so... what
hit me?” Jack’s face broke out into a grin and he slapped Daniel on the
back.
“I would say a big fist with
a big intent.” Daniel closed his eyes. Jack thought for a minute and shrugged.
“That was a really stupid joke
Colonel.” Daniel reopened his eyes. That was right, there were three figures
in the room when he had woken up, and that certainly didn’t sound like Sam.
Daniel looked the man in the face. He was one of the guards probably...
but then again; there was really no other explanation of him being in the
cell if he were.
“And you would be...?” Daniel
looked at the slightly built young man and was surprised to see him stand
up with a shocked expression writ on his face.
“I can’t believe you don’t remember
me Dr. Jackson. How many people are there like in on this earth?” Daniel
winced and looked at Jack. Jack shrugged slightly, a small smile spreading
across his face.
“Yes, that’s nice.” Daniel narrowed
his eyes. “And you would be...?” Beside him, Jack burst into laughter. Teal’c,
who Daniel hadn’t noticed until now, raised an eyebrow.
“He’s the General Daniel.” Daniel
blinked. Yeah right.
“You have got to be kidding me.”
Teal’c stirred.
“We are indeed not.” Daniel looked
at him, then at the twenty something year old man in front of him.
“Anybody care to explain any of
this to me?” Jack frowned.
“Okay, we are in Area 51, we were
in a VR world, no we are in a cell.” Daniel looked at Hammond.
“And him?”
“Machello’s machine. It’s actually
kind of funny now. Sam turned herself into Maybourne.” Daniel rolled his
eyes. This wasn’t any help at all.
Sam Carter, or rather Colonel
Maybourne in Sam Carter’s body yelled and screamed. The guard on duty looked
up at his choice of reading, Playboy, and winced. Boy were woman loud.
“Look lady. You are Sam Carter,
just shut up will you.”
“I’ll have your rank for this
airman!” Maybourne screamed. The young man winced again and continued reading.
Obviously that was more fascinating than listening to Maybourne scream.
Maybourne sat on the bed. So many things in life were unfair. He looked
at the man sitting behind the bars, flipping through the magazine he held.
Maybourne looked at the camera positioned in the corner of his room and
took a pillow from the bed and threw it at the piece of equipment. The man
on duty barely stirred. Maybourne looked at his body, or rather, new body
and then back to the airman reading his magazine. There were more than one
way to get out of this cell
Part 26: (
KaEn)
Hammond left the cellblock. He hoped that his friendly chat was unnoticed. They had all gotten out of the 'VR' safe, no troubles with the brains, exept for Jack's, but that was normal. He sighted. Atleast Captain Carter got out, and is now on her way to the president. He hoped that he would believe the story, afterall, this was getting to strange, even for him. VR, mental torture, bodyswithing... all good stuff for a science fiction novel. Since he joined the stargate project, it was all science fiction to him. Sometimes he wasn't sure he was dreaming or if it was real. Strange aliens, timetravel, you name it, we did it. He was glad SG1 wasn't dead. His heart had nearly stopped, when Marbourne informed him the first time. And then those tags showed up. He shoke his head and entered the cellblock were Maybourne was taken.
Some stward woke Sam up from
her strange dream.
"Sir, you're in Washington."
She rubbed her eyes and got up. Her legs, or Maybournes legs felt shaky.
Maybourne had probably a little
cold. She sneezed and got our of the plane. The wind was pretty cold, and
she started to shake. At the end of the landing area, there stood a black
limo to pick her up.
"Not a bad body at all.." she
muttered under her breath and got in.
Hammond was shocked at what
he saw, but reacted soon.
" Soldier, would you get the
hell out of here and leave the prisoner alone." The soldier broke his passionate
kiss trough the bars and snapped to atention and left. In the cell he saw
his Captain rubbing her lips, he was ready to give her a full bawl about
kissing while duty, before he relized who was in that body, and in what
body he was.
" Maybourne, Maybourne, sinking
so low??" The young woman glared at him.
" You’re General Hammond. Right?"
The only response he got was a nod.
" I thought so, I should’ve believe
that Roberts in your body..."
" Little to late for that." He
came closer and stood against the bars, looking directly in his eyes.
" Oh, I don't think so. " And
he raised the gun he had stolen from her ‘lover boy’.
" Now... let's switch..."
Part 27: (
KaraMeL)
General Hammond.... a.k.a.
Roberts, walked down the hall, the female prisoner Carter in tow. She was
oddly silent, and the General wondered what was going on. Usually, Maybourne
had quite a few things to say about the General’s way of handling difficult
situation, and this was defiantly one of them. With the departure of Samantha
Carter.... a.k.a Maybourne, He had found the base strangely unoccupied,
as if something had drawn the life out of this facility. The General right
now was focused on a bigger problem... without all the bodies that had been
switched, how was he going to get into his body again? He needed Sam Carter.
She was one that could figure it all out and make things right. The General
sighed; his young face scrunched up in a misery only the SG-1 team could
induce. This was getting old. General Hammond sighed and finally turned
the corner... and found himself facing three fully armed soldiers guarding
the very room he wanted to be in.
“Shit,” he muttered in his ungentlemanly
manner. “Why does this always happen to me?” He took another peek around
the corner when he felt a stab of pain shoot through his arm. “Oww!” He cried,
the three armed men swiveled their heads and took off for Hammond’s... rather
Roberts position. General Hammond looked for the offending figure, and found
that she... rather he was gone. In his moment of inattention, Sam... Maybourne
had bit him, causing him to let go, therefore, he was out of luck again.
The three armed soldiers rounded the corner and the General clapped his hand
over his wound. Faking his happiness in seeing them, he pointed in the direction
that Sam... Maybourne went in.
“The Female prisoner escaped...
Get her back!” The three soldiers never questioned his authority, nor his
rank. For this, he was glad. As the soldiers ran off to find their intended
prey, the General slapped the red button on his right. Loud alarms blared
through the halls and Hammond found a slight tinge of satisfaction course
through his veins. Let the hunt begin...
Jack flickered his eyes upwards
as the alarm cut through the silence. He could hear the pounding of feet,
and finally, the opening of the cell door. It was the General. Jack raised
a questioning eyebrow, unknowingly imitating Teal’c expression. Boy, this
was getting better and better.
“Well,” The general said, the
lack of Texan drawl made Jack smile slightly. How they were going to get
out of the mess was going to defiantly be fun. “Since the confusion of Carter’s...
Maybourne’s escape... damn this is so darn confusing...” Jack smiled. That
was the way the cookie crumbled, there was always one more so. This body-switching
thing was getting on his nerves too. He didn’t know who was who. “Okay,
the confusion is wide spread, therefore I suggest that you take your leave.
We aren’t going to get another chance at this.” The General waved his hand
and the rest of SG-1, minus Carter, filed out the door, peering cautiously
out the door before turning on their heels, towards the doors. At least
they were going to attempt to get out. That would be one for the record
books.
Sam blinked wearily as yet
another presenter got up and droned about the effectiveness of the program,
the defects the attributes and then after that gave a little speech on how
they needed money. This was a never ending meeting, already Sam itched to
be in the plane, headed for home, ready to get herself back into her body
and ready to take over the world. Humph. If she could she would. Apparently
this was a yearly meeting, and seriously, she didn’t think that this was
going to end soon enough, she would probably be a rotting corpse by the
time this whatever it was ended. Sam sighed and continued to tap her pencil
against her knee. Sam looked around her, this was so damn uncomfortable
to be in this body. Maybourne’s shiny head bothered her, he had a shelf
over his stomach, loosely translated, he was fat, and on top of that, he
reeked with aftershave and Sam dared not take a shower. She hoped Maybourne
would be queasy about that too.
“Colonel Maybourne? It’s your
turn.” Sam looked up. Oh crap.
To Be Continued...
