March or so of grade eight, my mom starts talking about this committee that my brother and her are on to hire a youth leader for our church. I was a little dubious; I pictured this horribly stiff-collared older guy, who more or less forced his beliefs on us. Then I saw Dave walk into the gymnasium in late June, and I was dumbfounded. This guy looked cool! And.. yeah, he was. And is. Dave and his wife Melody are probably the most influential people that have walked into my life in the past two years. They've taught me a lot, both about God, and life (and life with God). There's a lot of stuff about Dave that I think is super cool; all his stories, especially (he's a good storyteller). He's really become someone that I look up to (and those people are few and far between), and I really respect him. He's one of those people that would be there if you were in a bind to help you out. Making Dave proud is kindof something that I think is important to many of the kids in our youth group, including myself. You don't really realize how cool it is, until he is visibly proud of you. Then it's like.. wow! I want to do that again! Dave also has amazing taste in music, and has introduced me to a lot of really cool bands, both Christian, and not Christian. I'm way too happy now that the committee chose Dave to be our youth leader. He's an amazing guy. Oh, and I'm still maintaining my record.. I haven't missed one youth group Thursday night since it started. Shows how great Dave is! -from the twisted mind of: Sonya Kooy, 2002 |
