Star Lit Rabbitry (SLR) is a small rabbitry located in Calgary Alberta Canada and showing in open. We breed Holland Lop's in Self, Agouti, Wideband, Shaded and both Black/orange & Blue/fawn Tri Colors. In June 2003 Christine Church(BMR) told me about a lady wanting to sell out of American Fuzzy Lop's. It came with everything they needed plus two Jersey Woolies. These bunnies needed a little work but once finished I was more than happy with the final result! I made the hard choice to sell out of the fuzzies in January 2006. My first love is the Holland's as my parents bred meat rabbits when I was a small child and my mother had a pet holland. Ever since then I couldn't resist having one of those cute pudgy faces around! I voulnteered at a pet store and in 2000 someone who worked there found a stray bunny outside in the middle of winter. He was a black Holland lop and a total sweetie. Since no one would take him I asked my mother and she said ok. Was I ever over-joyed! My first bunny! I found a doll's shirt tucked away in my basement and the shirt was for a teddy bear named Zeddy. Well the rabbit 'Zeddy' lived mostly out doors at my house and sadly passed away in December 2005. I bought my first five pedigree'd Holland's from Christine Church in October of 2002 and my first 5 pedigree'd fuzzy lop's in June of 2003. This is what started me in my adventure of breeding rabbits and I now have 43 holes for the Hollands. Our first RIS youth was given out to SLR's Max by Allan Ormond at the Calgary 2004 show! Our program has come a long way in the short time it's been up and running but I'm so proud of these bunnies as I truly have put my entire heart into this hobby. As a running joke I said the day I take BOB with a tri color in open I'll quit, well I guess I'll have to quit now!! SLR's Sakari a tri doe of mostly third generation SLR breeding took BOB out of 76 at the 05 Northlands show! To top it off SLR's Leo a frosty buck took BOB on the other table! |
I'd love to also take a moment and thank the people who have gotten me to where I am now. My mom is hands down the most supportive person and the major factor to the success I've enjoyed thus far. Christine, Wes & Alex Church have been truly amazing people and I do miss them dearly. Paula Osowska, Charlene Mack, Cassie Penner, Jeff Jost, Neil Bont and Kraig Ritchmond have also been awesome people by lending a hand whenever it is needed. Bill and Wanda Hartall, Emily Spencer, Anne Ott, Leona & Family, Holly & Glen, Jessica Wight, Judy Johansen, Julie Hickie & Tracy Collins have also all been awesome people as show staff and to talk to. Without these people show's just wouldn't happen!! Also a big thank you to anyone else whom I have not named on here, you guys are all terrific! |
