Mission Statement

The purpose and aim of these pages is to spread information about the fact, however incredible and unlikely it seems, that there are people in this world that more than anything else desire or rather, feel a need, to live their lives as amputees. Despite the fact that they have all limbs intact.

It is not, however, a conscious choice from their side. This is something that is very important to remember.

I myself even have great difficulty understanding why I feel a need to become an amputee. Because of this I do not expect that everybody else will understand the feeling. I try keeping an open mind looking for answers and urge others to do the same.

Most that have been written concerning the syndrome claims that it is a sexual perversion or fetish. This makes being taken seriously very difficult. I cannot deny being a sexual being but my wish to become an amputee is not sexual in its origin.

Trying to challenge these views is another reason for the creation of these pages.

The writings appearing on this site are mostly originating from own and other's experiences since the available information is scarce. The only written sources I have had access to is the book by Furth and Smith mentioned earlier and various articles of very varied quality found on the Internet. Some of which can be found in the links/articles section.

This syndrome is often treated as non-existing but denying its existence does not make it go away. Denying a problem is not a solution. I have tried denying what I feel but it only made me feel worse.

Some individuals seem to believe that amputee wannabes intentionally mock and make fun of "real" (meaning non voluntary) amputees. This is not the case and I have great respect for anyone who has gone through something as painful as unvoluntary loosing a limb/limbs. Remember though that pain and suffering come in many forms and a wannabe’s suffering is equally legitimate as the suffering of others.
