THE PRESENT SITUATION:

The year is 2382, and at the current time, the Alpha Quadrant is stable, and here's why:

With the end of the Dominion War in 2375 the Alpha Quadrant is attempting to return to some sense of normality. With the Romulans and the Federation having recently entered into a scientific and military alliance and Federation-Klingon Alliance looking stronger than it ever has before, the Alpha Quadrant Super-powers began working together in Large Scale Scientific Explorations.

The Federation has begun making plans for further colonisation programs outside of Federation Territory, the first of its type for 50 years. The Federation is still suffering the after effects of the War, with many Federation Starship, Starbases and planetary installations, even after 7 years, still awaiting repairs and replenishment.

The Starfleet Advanced Design Bureau have only recently begun finishing their ongoing projects. The Hyperion Class, commissioned in 2379, is currently the Largest Federation Starship. The recent addition of the new Luna Class Vessels, which include Captain Riker's USS Titan, is also proving successful. The Pathfinder Class Starships are developing as the elite of new Federation vessels. Capable of MVA mode, the Pathfinder class Starship is rising to become the new Sovereign Class. The Concorde Class Starship is also proving a success as the replacement for Starships such as the Typhon and Tirpitz. Another recent completion by the ASDB is the Montana Class, which is still in testing.

Races of the Dominion are either trying to rebuild their standing in the Gamma Quadrant, or improve their relations with the Federation. Trade is on the increase in the Gamma Quadrant as Trade Routes re-open. Tensions are still high, with some members of the Dominion (even after 7 years) still wanting to take over the Alpha Quadrant. However, the wiser people in the Dominion have spoken out against it, with the Federation, the Klingons, the Romulans all allied together it would be a foolish endeavour. Odds are stacked against war in the near future.

After the Incident between the joint Federation-Romulan Task Force in 2379, the Reman Ascendancy has been granted sovereignty and the Star System Galvanis as their home world. The Federation and the Romulan Empire have been negotiating peace treaties. The Reman's have said that if another war against the Dominion Broke out then they would remain neutral. This has been evident in the treaty documents that they have drawn up. They will only get involved in a galactic conflict " like the Dominion War " if they are directly threatened by said conflict. Starfleet and the Romulans can appreciate this as it follows the lines of the Prime Directive.

Tensions in the Bajor sector are still normalising since the end of the war. Trade-lines to the Gamma Quadrant have only recently been re-opened. Station Deep Space 9 has come under complete Starfleet control, as of early 2380. This is due to the acceptance of Bajor into the UFP. The Bajoran Militia has been absorbed into the Starfleet, and the Bajoran Provisional Government has been discontinued in favour of a new long-term Government.

Captain Kira Nerys, Commandant of Deeps Space 9, has recently said that the continued Starfleet Presence near the Bajoran Wormhole is necessary. Starfleet are turning the station into a shipyard, and are currently making plans to open it as such.

The Cardassian Union, also in the Bajor Sector, are slowly rebuilding their empire. The Federation have relinquished control of the Star Systems that they gained control of in the latter half of 2375, only if those Systems were in Cardassian control before the beginning of the Dominion War. The Demilitarised Zone has been widened and is now patrolled by the Imperial Klingon Defence Force. The Federation has established an Embassy on Cardassia in an attempt to aid in the rebuilding process since the end of the Dominion War at the end of 2375.

The Klingon Empire has recently begun to research medicine and science. Many doctors in the Empire have been to Starfleet Academy Medical School in-order to become qualified medics. The Klingon equivalent to a 24th Century Starfleet Sickbay is at-least 2 centuries away, in normal development terms. The Klingons have requested help from the Federation in this area and Starfleet Medical have sent representatives to Qo'nos in-order to educate the Klingon "Doctors".

The Empires interest in such things has been recognised as a positive consequence of the Dominion War. Many Klingons who fought alongside Federation and Romulan troops developed an inferiority complex when they went into battle alongside their allies. They could see the Starfleet Soldiers and Romulan Centurions get injured in battle, receive quality medical care, and return to the battlefield in full health. Klingon Medicine, being what it is, many Klingons were better off without having any medical attention and died before getting back to the fight. Chancellor Martok, a recipient on many occasion of Starfleet Medicine, felt that to show injury in front of fellow Klingons on the battlefield is one thing, standing alongside fully restored Federation and Romulan Officers is quite another. Especially if the day before those same officers would have died in Klingon Medical Care.

Klingon scientific interest is also a recent development, however, the origins of this interest is a mystery, not only to the Empire but to the Federation as well. Even so, Starfleet welcomes the interest that the Klingons have shown in the Sciences, and have not hindered in any way the Klingons scientific interests.

The Breen have gone into recession since the War ended and have severed contact with the rest of the Quadrant. As allies of the Dominion the Breen were also forced to make reparations towards the Federation, the Klingon Empire, and the Romulan Empire. These reparations do not amount as much as the Dominion reparations because of their late entry into the War. Recently, however, there have been a number of skirmishes along the border to Breen territory.
