Stump Grinding is the most effective method of dealing with stumps. It's more tolerable to the rest of your landscape than excavating. Stumps are ground below the surface to give an immediate remedy rather than waiting years for mother nature.
Avoid tripping hazards and time wasted trimming around them. These stumps also provide the perfect refuge for colonizing carpenter ants. They burrow into the soft, moist wood. When the stump is an established home they move into your established home chewing away for years before they are discovered doing more damage than termites.
The by-product of grinding could be raked over holes to decompose and be mixed with top soil or lume for seeding. For an extra charge the grindings could be removed all together lume and seeding provided
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does stump grinding cost? A general rule of thumb I tell people is $5 per inch measured at ground level. Now the exceptions- stumps may be more if stump was not cut low enough to the ground, or the terrain around the stumps creates a difficult grinding environment, exposed root chasing is required, etc.
What is left when grinding is done?> A wood chip mat with the consistancy of sawdust to coleslaw size will be left 3' to 10' around the stump. Most people want this raked over the hole. These shavings reduce in volume very quickly when exposed to rain and weather. The addition of top soil or lume makes a very good foundation for seeding. Shavings could be removed for an additional cost. Top soil and seeding is also available for an additional charge
Will you come out for just one small stump? Yes. I have no minimum charge. I may ask to hold off scheduling your job until I can combine a few small jobs to make it worth loading up all the equipment and coming out. My typical clients are homeowners/do-it-your-selfers who remove trees but don't own or care to rent a stump grinder. Other clients have had trees removed but were left broke by the cost of tree removal to have the stumps taken care of.
