With a new CD due out this year, I decided to talk to Johnny about the upcoming material, as well as some other questions that myself, along with others, really wanted to know the answers to. Seeing as he has had a lot of things going on as of late (recording the album, touring with Danzig, and playing with Earl's Court, among other things) the fact that he took time out to do this was really cool of him. Johnny has even been to this site before, which made me feel somewhat honored. Well....here we go!

*Keep in mind, this interview was done before the release of the new songs titles and information*

What's going on with the new CD? Are we ever gonna see it?

The new cd is almost finished. Yes it will be released sometime in March or April.

How would you say the new music compares to what Type O has put out so far? Heavier, more melodic, etc?

It’s a mixture of everything Type O Negative. It’s all in there.

Are you happy with the new material?

There are some songs on it that I am blown away by.

I don't suppose you boys will be putting up a clip of the new stuff anytime soon, will you? We are getting impatient!

I don’t think that’s going to happen! The cd will be finished soon enough and you’ll get to hear the entire thing.

As they often do, alot of people are speculating that this will be Type O's last CD. How do you feel about that?

Every cd feels like it’s going to be the last one so why would this one be any different. We don’t intend to make the new cd our last one though.

You recently had the chance to tour with Danzig earlier this winter. What was that like?

Danzig, Todd Youth and Howie Pyro are great guys and I had a great time playing with them and I don’t think that we’re finished working together. There are a lot of possibilities on the table and we’re hopefully going to do all of them.

When it comes to making up the songs, who has the most input?

Peter writes all the songs and we make contributions.

You guys have been playing together for quite some time. Any truth to the rumors that you really don't get along that well?

Of course there are. It’s like any family. We laugh and argue just like everyone else.

What is your favorite city to play and why?

Detroit and Chicago have always been favorites of mine. The fans in those cities are out of control. You feel like you’re a part of something much bigger than what it really is when you’re there.

Which is your favorite TON album? Favorite/least favorite song to do live?

My favorite cd is a toss up between World Coming Down and Slow Deep and Hard. My favorite song to play is probably World Coming Down and I never liked playing My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend.

Who are your musical influences?

Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and KISS.

What's your take on today's music scene? To me, the music that comes out now is unoriginal and pretty boring. How you do you feel about this?

It definitely isn’t as exciting to me as it was in 90 or 91 when there were so many new bands coming onto the scene.

What 5 CD's are you listening to right now?

In no particular preference, they are: 1. Chris Robinson – New Earth Mud 2. The Hellacopters – By Grace of God 3. The Hellacopters – Payin The Dues 4. Temple of The Dog 5. Audioslave

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

25 lbs heavier with a receded hairline, divorced, bitter and cleaning toilets for a living.

How does being a musician impact your family life?

It’s a part of everything that I do and influences the way that I look at life. Of course being away from home for periods at a time has it’s both good and bad points.

Do you have any plans for more children?

Eventually Sophia is going to have a brother or sister. I just don’t know when.

Does playing in this band satisfy you, musically?

I will never be satisfied musically. That’s what keeps me motivated.

Compose a "super" band....If you could make the "perfect" band, who would be in it?

Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John Bonham

If you could have any band open up for you, who would it be?

The Hellacopters
