Steven Byrd

I began writing seriously in my senior year of high school, when I first tried my hand at poems and short stories along with the academic papers that my classes required. I continued both my creative and critical writing into college, where I have had the honor of working with several professors on various scholastic projects, the most extensive being my work as an editorial assistant on Dr. Mark Canada's Internet research site All American: Literature, History and Culture. I was also the founder and served as co-editor on UNCP's student literary magazine the Aurochs.

I have published a few poems in small publications and presented a research paper on the novels of North Carolina author Jill McCorkle at a conference in March 2001. I've also had an article I wrote on Edwin Arlington Robinson's "Richard Cory" published in volume 35 of Poetry Criticism.

I hope to continue my work with literature on into graduate school, where I plan to earn a degree allowing me to teach writing on a collegiate level.
