The problem is caused by messenger setup fiddling with your browser's settings, so you have to set them back properly.
For Microsoft Internet Explorer do the following:
Click on Tools, then Internet options.
Then click the Programs tab, and check the box next to "Internet explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser". Then click OK.
IE may ask you want to make it the default browser the next time it starts up, so tell it Yes if it does.
Profiles should now load correctly.
