     Rowling's work can be classified as magical realism and as fantasy. Magial realism is defined as genre that occurs when magical elements appear in a realistic setting. Many elements exist in the Harry Potter series showing it's relation to magical realism. Fantasy aso has a role in the series of Harry Potter, fantasy is a term used to describe something untrue and detached from reality.
       Magical Realism contains fantastical elements, incorprates legend and foklore,
uses a mirroring of past or present, and astral or physical planes.The
Harry Potter series contains all of these aspects, they all have legend and folklore, and time is not viewed in a traditional sense . The term "Magical Realism": was created by Franz Roh, a German art critic, he used the term to describe art. It was made popular in the 1920s and was used to describe the work of Jorge Luis Borges, John Fowles, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
       Along with magical realism it is also characterized as fantasy. Fantasy is a genre that uses magic and supernatural elements as primary in the plot, setting, and/or theme. This genre also includes many references to myth and legend. Fantasy also usually incorperates heroes, monsters, or far off lands. Fantasy is made famous by stories heard throughout childhood, such as fairytales. Examples of fantasy would be J.M. Barrie's
Peter Pan, J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, and Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid.
