Club News

Moses Nkadimeng and Victor Xaba attended the Gauteng Championships on 3 March, 2002. Moses came fourth, and now is half-way to qualifying for provincial colours, and Victor came a creditable ninth against a strong field. Clearly St Enda's is still a force to be reckoned with.

The innaugural St Enda's Club Draughts Doubles Tournament was won by Khayalethu Ntlebi & Siyabulela Busakwe. The Silver medalists were Walter Saku & Lucky Mnisi, with bronze going to Dominic & Godfrey Mshumayeli.

On 22 July, 5 of our players attended the SA Schools Tournament at the Old Edwardian Club, and did rather well.
  • Dominic Mshumayeli - 2nd
  • Khayalethu Ntlebi - 3rd
Well done! Both These players were invited to the Junior SA Team trials to play a test against the UK Juniors in October. Khayalethu played 5 games, winning 3, while Dominic drew 4 games. Well done, guys!

Hugh Devlin On 17 May, Hugh Devlin, the Irish Master, played 30 simultaneous games against students from St Enda's. The result was predictable, Ireland 30 - Scool 0! But a great time was had by all, and students learned a lot. Congratulations must go to Peter Mphunyane and Victor Xaba, who were singled out by Hugh as players with a great deal of potential! Well done chaps!

Ladder Rules

The Draughts Section of the Club runs two ladders for Anglo-American and Continental rules. All ladder games must be recorded on a score sheet, otherwise they cannot count for the ladder.

Players may challenge players up to three places above them. If they lose there is no change in the ladder. If they win, they take the place of the player they beat, who moves one place down.

New players may join the ladder by challenging for a place up to five places from the bottom (ie. the red zone).

A player need not accept a challenge so long as s/he has played in that week, otherwise s/he must accept, and will lose one place if s/he does not accept at least one challenge in any week. If a player has not played for more than one month, then that player shall be removed from the ladder.
