Billie Joe and Mike grew up in a small town called Rodeo, just outside of Berkeley, California. They started hanging out at age 10, and formed the band Sweet Children when they were in their mid-teens. They changed their name to Green Day after the name Sweet Children got them mixed up with another band. Before recording Kerplunk, Green day's drummer, John Kiffmeyer, announced that he was leaving the band to go to college. He was replaced by his drum teacher, a guy named Frank Edwin wright III, who would only answer to the name Tre Cool. A tour followed the release of Kerplunk, and the band built a small following of fans. After that, they signed a record deal with Reprise Records, a subdivision of Warner Bros. Within a year, Dookie was made, this is the album that launched Green Day into superstardom. They toured non-stop for months, appearing in many t.v. interviews, and on magazine covers along the way. After Dookie came Insomniac, a short tour followed the release of this c.d., but the band cut it short claiming exhaustion. 2 years later they came out with a new record, called Nimrod. This c.d. contains the song Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), which ended up in a plot of an episode the t.v. drama E.R., and was featured in the last episode of Seinfeld. After 3 years, the band's long awaited 6th cd, Warning, arrived in stores. It has a bit more pop rock in it than one would expect, yet it is still an amazing c.d. |
