Dip 1063 Armed Neutrals
A 4-way draw for Austria, England, France and Germany
Rules 1. The game is played as normal, except
that each neutral supply centre begins the game garrisoned by an army. These
armies act as if they are under civil disorder and will be disbanded if dislodged. 2. If a neutral army is destroyed in Spring, but the corresponding supply centre is vacated in Fall, then the neutral army regenerates. |

It feels like this game has gone on for a long time, what with the confusion with my computer dying halfway and then things at work getting so busy it was tricky to adjudicate promptly. Still, this was an interesting experiment: the Armed Neutrals variation is such a simple rule, but completely changes the balance of power. It requires a more coherent strategy than standard – if you don’t think ahead, you find yourself struggling to get the neutrals required to grow. Congratulations to the survivors, especially to Tim, who got so close. After being stopped just short in a couple of games myself very recently, I know how disappointing that is. Anyway, my next move in cat23 is to try and get a few stalled intimate games going again, but I’d consider starting a new variant if there was a clamour for an interesting one. |
This was a weird one, as everything I touched turned to garbage. I started off trying to get Germany on my side and attacked Scandanavia and Russia. Just when I was about to hit France, Germany started to build fleets and stalemated me in the north. While I tried to break free, I basically had to wait for France to regroup. He did and went after Germany for awhile, but then came after me! Thankfully, Germany started to give me most of his centers, and I tried to leave him enough to attack France and Austria with me. Thinking long-term, I headed south past Germany and tried to get to Austria to find the 18th center for a solo. But Russia trashed that, taking St. Petersburg and slowing me down (Seriously, what was the point of that?). Aside from irking me a great deal, it really didn't accomplish much but mistrust along our border. And even when I tried to help him against Austria, he headed my way and wrote pro-Austrian orders. I took back St. Petersburg and closed the door up there. Even though I made some ground in France, things just went wrong. I remember getting bounced by GERMANY in Marseilles, and then France himself kept me out of Iberia, as well. After that, I gave up on soloing and just got my units to fortify Munich, Marseilles, and Berlin as fast as I could. I got there just in the nick of time. I'm glad we stopped the solo, but this was not exactly my cleanest game. Thank you Steph for keeping me in this one. Thanks to Stephen for a smoothly run game. And thanks to the rest of the players for a good game. See you on another board! |
For beginning excuse my english which is poor, I begin this game with the intention to take
SPA, POR and see after for the future. But Germany and Italy attack me in 1901. All the game I was in defence. At one moment I was in SPA and POR only. Italy had problem when austria stab him. At
this moment I try and come back in taking MAR. My relation with germany was not good with the
loss of PAR and BRE. But germany was stabbed by england so he'd
another things to do. I tried by my move to do an alliance against
england where he gives me back BRE and PAR. But he didn't want. So i tried to play in mediteranean with the
attack of austria who finished turkish. But england attack me by back. So i tried to defend and do a draw. At the end the stalemate was here if germany
support MUN. Germany didn't do it. If i was austria, i'd tried the solo. But i wasn't austria and the draw was here :) |
