St. George's University announced the signing of an agreement with Touro College for joint programs to begin in January 2001.
The Combined Degree Program is an innovative concept realized by the cooperative efforts of Touro College and the University. This highly selective exciting program allows qualified students to begin their studies in the Pre-Professional Phase of the Touro College Division of Health Sciences(TCDHS) located in Bay Shore, New York and enhance their education with an international experience when they continue their studies at St. George's University in Grenada, West Indies in pursuit of their academic career goals.

Three distinct opportunities are offered and begin with enrollment in the Pre-Professional Phase of TCDHS. For a career path in Marine Science, after two successful years at TCDHS students proceed to Grenada and enter the St. George's University School of Arts and Sciences for a two-year course of study leading to a Bachelor in Marine Science. For a career path in medicine or veterinary medicine, after three successful years at TCDHS students proceed to Grenada for a four year course of study and enter either the freshman class of St. George's University School of Medicine or St. George's University School of Veterinary Medicine. Within this agreement the M.D. and D.V.M. programs also confer a Bachelor of Science Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences.

This agreement with Touro will provide students with a clear path to their future studies and is being well received by students currently enrolled in Touro College.
More information about this and other programs is available by contacting SGU @ 1-800-899-6337, or info@sgu.edu or go to www.sgu.edu Touro College is a private college located in Bay Shore, New York providing instruction in several science and health fields

Mount Sinai mass email rejection:
Mt Sinai in NYC sent out a mass letter of rejection which contained nearly 100 names of applicants who were cc'ed the rejection. Thus those who received it could read the names of others who rejected simultaneously. The list contained mostly Indian/Asian names, with a smattering of AngloEuropen names (some recongizable as SGU students) suggesting its was a mass rejection of IMGs.

*****ADDITIONS TO THE UNIVERSITY*****

The School is endevoring to set up a few new faculties to SGU. First up is the new school of veterinary medicine up and running Aug '99 with an initial expectation of a 25 student class headed by Dr. David Hogg. School hopes to expand and double this number shortly thereafter. Additionally, Dr. Geoff Wigham PhD has been appointed Director of the new Marine Biology program at SGU which will being its first term in August 1999. There is an affiliation with the Univeristy of Plymouth (UK) which will set up the program and supply lecturers. See 'important info' for more, and below for other projects proposed.

A Culinary Institute at the soon-to-be-purchased True Blue Inn

A School of Marine Biology to function in conjunction with Plymouth Uni of the UK, based either at True Blue Inn or Grand Anse campus

A Sports Institute with world class Cricket Clinic for formal training of the West Indian Cricket teams.

For those of you who havent been down to GDA since 4th term, you'd be in for a surprise. To begin with, the student center has been up and running for a year now. It includes pool tables and a pretty mean Nautilus gym thanks in part to Joe Flagg's ('99) guidence.

Remeber the buses? Well not only do they go up the hill as part of the route, but there is a shuttle to take folks up and down in between the big bus arrivals (When I was a first termer, we had to walk up the hill. And we liked it.)

**Micro is now situated in 4th term along side pathology. Attrition rates as they become available***

***CYBERCAFE***

This is currently being typed at the Galaxy Cyber cafe of Grand Anse, located at the site of the old French Restaurant. $10 EC/hr for SGU students ($20/ hr for others). Aside from the 6 terminals, there is a very well stocked bar and restaurant here and business is thriving. Computer speed is faster than the one I used in the UK!

***And to bring a tear to the eye of all SGUers, Grentel is going the way of the dodo. Cable and Wireless (the system both SVG and bit sof the UK use) is now dominating the island. No word yet on the wait time for phone installation.***
FLASH!
Average wait-time for installation (as taken by random sampling of 1st termers on bus) 7 days. $500 deposit required.
