Uniform Description for Texas Confederate Troops, Eastern Theater:

Hat: Civilian hat with brim preferred, preferably with ribbon bound edge, according to style of the time [EoG* pp. 168-9]. Plantation style hats were popular with Texas troops. A gray kepi is optional for a minority of members [EoG* pp. 162-3].

B. Jacket: Richmond Depot jacket types II or III- a shell jacket of cadet gray wool, no trim, +/- belt loops and epaulettes [EoG* pp. 135-6]. Any other documented Hood?s Brigade jacket is acceptable [EoG* pp. 140-3].

C. Trousers: Richmond Depot style or pants made of any shade of grey wool, straight leg design with button fly and buttons for suspenders. Also acceptable are civilian trousers of the time [EoG* pp. 152-3]. Cloth need not be same shade as jacket.

D. Shirt: Civilian pattern of the time [EoG* pp. 154-5].

E. Shoes/boots: "brogans" are preferred [EoG* pp. 174-5]. Shoes or boots are to be made of black or brown leather.

F. Cap pouch, cartridge box and strap: Black or brown leather cartridge box and cap pouch, with straps of leather or black cloth. Cartridge boxes may be worn on waist belt. [EoG* pp. 185, 192-9].

G. Belt/buckle: Texas Star buckle preferred. Square "Georgia frame" or "Y tongue" buckle also acceptable. [EoG* pp. 190-1, 195].

H. Rifle (musket): Any N-SSA (or CWSA, depending on the sponsoring organization) approved arm is acceptable.

I. Other equipment allowed but optional: haversack, white [EoG* pp.201] or captured Union black linseed finish. Canteen: wood, or tin round or kidney shaped, may be cloth covered [EoG* pp.208-11].
