Uniform Description for Texas Confederate Troops, Trans-Mississippi Theater:

Hat: Civilian hat with brim preferred, preferably with ribbon bound edge, according to style of the time [EoG* pp. 168-9]. Plantation style hats were popular with Texas troops.

B. Jacket: San Antonio Depot (undyed or brown cotton jean, no trim) or Houston Depot (wool jean cloth with branch of service trim on collar and peaked cuffs) jacket with Texas star buttons. Any other documented Trans-Mississippi jacket is acceptable [EoG* pp. 146-7].

C. Trousers: Pants made of any shade of grey wool, straight leg design with button fly and buttons for suspenders. Also acceptable are civilian trousers of the time [EoG* pp. 152-3]. Cloth need not be same shade as jacket.

D. Shirt: Civilian pattern of the time [EoG* pp. 154-5, 146].

E. Shoes/boots: "brogans" are preferred [EoG* pp. 174-5]. Shoes or boots are to be made of black or brown leather.

F. Cap pouch, cartridge box and strap: Black or brown leather cartridge box and cap pouch, with straps of leather or black cloth. Cartridge boxes may be worn on waist belt. [EoG* pp. 185, 192-9].

G. Belt/buckle: Texas Star buckle preferred. Square "Georgia frame" or "Y tongue" or square CSA  (or CS) buckle also acceptable. [EoG* pp. 190-1, 184].

H. Rifle (musket): Any N-SSA (or CWSA, depending on the sponsoring organization) approved arm is acceptable.

I. Other equipment allowed but optional: haversack, white [EoG* pp.201] or captured Union black linseed finish. Canteen: wood, or tin round or kidney shaped, may be cloth covered [EoG* pp.208-11].
