MARKLIN PAGE

Hi, thanks for looking in. This section is now competing heavily against my FALLER A-M-S section, so much to do, so little time!. UPDATE - SEE BELOW FOR INFORMATION REGARDING STARTER SETS

I first started with MÄRKLIN in the early 1980's. But my model railway beginnings were really from growing up as a child in the 60's with TRIANG-HORNBY model trains, and playing with MATCHBOX Cars - (April '64) - And boy do I wish I still had THOSE in their original boxes and condition!!

The TRIANG-HORNBY trains were (and still are) very popular, and they were affordable. TRIANG was seen as the "no-frills" version of HORNBY and was probably a good choice at the time by my Dad, considering he had a Wife, & 4 kids to support on a single income!. And his tolerant patience with me everytime I took a loco to school to push in the dirt (!!) is still a lasting memory.

I can't remember the first specific time I saw or met a Märklin item, but at some time I became fascinated by these unusual heavy loco's with a pickup shoe underneath, pantographs on some models and their strange couplings. (Now I look at the Triang couplings and wonder how I made that mistake).

Finally (in my 20's), when I wanted to decide on a brand for myself, I wisely chose Märklin. I acquired a few bits and pieces including a second-hand starter set, but made my first big jump with a 2610 Digital Starter set in 1988 followed soon after with a 6050 Interface. I played around with Computer Control using BASIC, Commodore 64's & Amigas, and eventually IBM PC's. I had a lot of fun and learned heaps.

In 1999 I purchased an INTELLIBOX. I love it. Very powerful and incredibly flexible with it's capabilities. Below are a couple of links that are near and dear to me. I will update this page as time allows. I also hope to soon add some images of favourite Märklin items.

STARTER SETS

I have been interested in the many different starter sets produced my Märklin over the years, and am building a collection of images and info of original sets to share as these are often difficult to find. Complete set pictures are usually not featured in the catalogues, but can be very valuable for confirming how original and complete a particular set is. I am seeking accurate information, preferably about sets you personally own, or have acquired from a reliable source when you can be confident the set is as originally produced.

If you have images of any sets not shown here that you would like included, or have better shots of any that are here, please send them to me, I will be very grateful. I also seek details about the items included in the set, any literature, and any accessories.

And of course I would love to hear your comments and/or suggestions for improvement.
