Bethesda chapel, Shepshed.
Built in 1823 by William Jacques the younger of Sheepshead, hosier, Benjamin Jacques of Sheepshead, hosier, the Reverend Joseph Chamberlain of Leicester, Benjamin Cort, of Leicester, ironmonger, James Barston of Leicester, ironmonger, George Lockwood of Leicester, mercer, William Barker of the town of Nottingham, hosier& Samuel Adams of Nottingham, hosier.
Records between Bethesda & Salem (1818)  were very often duplicated, making it difficult to know where the family were baptised. Before these were built they used Barratts clubroom, Shepshed.
Plaque 1 to the right of the pulpit reads:
Near this place are deposited the remains of William Jacques who died 25.8.1830 in the 83rd year of his age.
To whose memory his affectionate widow has dedicated this memorial.
Also in the same grave repose the body of Elizabeth, relict of William Jacques. She died 19th December 1842 aged 84 years.
Plaque 2 to the left of the pulpit reads:
Near this memorial rest the remains of William Jacques who died 16th August 1861 aged 78 years. He was one of the founders of this place of worship and a Deacon.
Also in the same vault Anna wife of the above who died 10th December 1846 aged 75 years.
She was the only child of John & Anna Smith of Ratcliffe on Soar.
I know who I have believed & am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

Main Street, Woodhouse Eaves. Home to Thomas, his wife Sarah, their son Herbert & his wife Eliza (nee) Walker & their 3 children Allen, Thomas & William, between the years 1871 to at least 1904. They later moved further down Main Street where they lived until Allens death in 1953.
Forest Street, Shepshed, home of William Jacques & Anna (nee Smith). This is where their children were brought up & where his many businesses were run from. A stones throw from the Bethesda chapel & Jacques' yard. William is said to have entertained John Wesley here as well as other leading religeous figures. The building is now the Richmond Arms Hotel, Shepshed.
