Downloading - June 19999

I have previously created a folder named "Downloads", and this is where I keep files that I have downloaded in order to make them easier to find later.  If it is a file I know that I want to keep, I then create another folder withing the "Downloads" folder using a name that makes sense to me and save the file there, because most of the time the file names is not easily remembered.

You can change the name of the file in the "File
name" box, but it is usually best to leave the filename "as is" unless you are about to overwrite another file of the same name, in any case do not change the three letter file extension, as doing so will make the file unrecognizable.

Once these preparations are completed, click on the "
Save" button and the download should start with a dialog box similar to this:

Once you have downloaded your file, you now need to open it.  Depending on the extension:

Zip - for files that have been compressed using some form of PKzip software
Pdf - for files in Adobe Acrobat Reader format
Exe - for executable files, that is a file that runs itself
Other extensions - for other particular formats

You have to possess the appropriate software to open and read or run the file.   It is usually a good idea to know ahead of time, before going through the effort of downloading a file, if you have the appropriate software to open, read or run the file.
