My Favorite Men's Store | ||||
When I need a shirt or a tie, I go to this men’s store. A shirt is $9. A tie is $2. Located about 4 blocks from me, the owners make an extra effort to keep their store neat and orderly. Their clothes & shoes are nicely displayed. They appear clean, and I like many of the styles. This combination of qualities is somewhat unique for many stores in Mali.
Their clothes appear to come from bulk shipments of used clothes in large bags. I have heard that developed countries send leftover clothes to developing countries. I have watched the owners sort through a bag. Then they apparently clean, fold, and offer selected items on their shelves. Every time I walk by this store on the way to my favorite restaurant, I exchange a pleasant ‘hello’. This friendliness is common of most Malians. I have exchanged a ‘hello’ and wave from as far as 100’ as I walk in the fields around Bamako and I see someone in a small village. That is one of the many things that I like about Mali.
