Thanksgiving in Mali | ||||
Thanksgiving in Mali is a very 'private' affair. Essentially no Malians know of the holiday in the USA. So expatriates (foreingers living in the country) get together on their own. Two large groups of volunteers met in different areas of Mali. I was invited by expats living in Bamako to have Thanksgiving dinner with them. Gosh, it was really nice. There were about 9 people. 3 people were employees of Peace Corps, 3 people were their spouses, and 3 people were volunteers. There was real turkey, vegetables, lasagne, pies, and a cake. The conversation was great also, in English no less! I was very thankful for my Thanksgiving in Bamako! |
