| At the Peace Corps training compound (Touboniso) the 1st 2 weeks of March 2006, there was a demonstration of a new form of African doll making. Historically, African dolls were made from wood. The dolls that we saw being made are made from cloth and cotton, more similar to American dolls. A Peace Corps volunteer a few years ago demonstrated to African women how to make these dolls. Now, several dozen African women are adopting this 'new' form of doll making and making the dolls conform to African history in their dress and stories.
