I've been collecting Def Leppard releases for years and years so I thought it would be a good idea to create a comprehensive discography to help out newer fans who are looking to add to their collection.

I'm creating the discography that I've always wanted to see, and this part of my site is going to be in construction for quite a while so please be patient! Where better to start than with each version of the EP...

The Def Leppard E.P.
There are actually 4 versions of this E.P around!
First pressing release date: 11th January 1979
Lable: Bludgeon Riffola. Catalogue number: SRTS/78/CUS232
Recorded at: Fairview Studios, 25 & 26th of November, 1978.
Sleeve artwork: Dave Jeffrey
Tracks and Writing Credits.
Side A: Ride Into The Sun. (Savage/Elliott)
Side A: Getcha Rocks Off. (Savage/Elliott/Clark/Willis)
Side B: The Overture. (Savage/Elliott/Clark/Willis)
Notes: Only 1000 copies were produced, self-financed by the Def Leppard lads themselves. These copies have a red label and the first 500 came with a lyric sheet that was signed by all five band members.
Special SMC note: One of Steve's brothers is listed in the 'Thanks to' section. Maybe he helped out in the studio? (see pic on left).
Second pressing release date: ** May 1979
Label: Bludgeon Riffola. Catalogue number: MSB001
All other info as above.
Notes: 15000 copies were pressed of the second edition. These have a yellow label and were issued in a plain white sleeve. At this time, Def Leppard were under the management of Peter Martin and Frank Stuart-Brown, hence the 'MSB001' catalogue number.
Third pressing release date: ** September 1979
Label: Vertigo. Catalogue number: 6059 240
Track listing of Side A was reversed for this pressing making Getcha Rocks Off the lead track.
Notes: After Def Leppard signed with Phonogram records the third pressing of the E.P. was released. This was another version without a picture sleeve (red and black Phonogram one), but this time with a silver label. 10000 copies issued.
Fourth pressing
A fan club-produced pressing of the E.P was produced during the Hysteria era.
Additional notes on the Def Leppard E.P:
Whilst Def Leppard were distributing the first pressing of their E.P, Joe would post a hand-written letter with each record he sent out (see example on left). It read:
Dear "Leppard" Fan,
Please find enclosed one copy of the "Def Leppard E.P." Hope you like it! If your
(sic) interested in the band keep your eyes open for any news of more records released or tour news etc.
Keep in touch,
THANX
Joe Elliott

More Info:
Nick Cartwright was accidentally omitted from the credits of the sleeve of the first version of the EP... but got a special thank you on the lyrics sheet to make up for it!

Some of the blurb from Phonogram's '...News' release:
"Average age of the band is 18 and most of the boys have been playing since they were kids - Rick Allen (drummer) has been trained by Kenny Slade (Joe Cocker's drummer in the Grease Band) since the age of 10, Pete Willis started playing bass at six years of age and Steve has been classically trained since 15. They write collectively though Joe Elliott is responsible for the lyrics. Their individual musical influences safeguard the end product from repetition but they do admire other bands such as Rush, UFO, Styx and Thin Lizzy."
