Hi Steve, my name's Bernd Ernst, I'm from Germany. I can't wait till "Somewhere to elsewhere" will be released! I downloaded the files! Don't wanna judge it, yet till I've heard the whole songs! What do you think about the material? Is it a trip back to the late 70's? I'm looking forward to hear the complete "Icarus 2". I'm looking for the opinion of an expert!!! Would you please click on: www.tm-project.de and tell me what you think about that stuff? I'd like to start a discussion with Kerry about this kind of lyrics! Bye and say hello to the "People of the south wind"! Bernd

Anyway Steve, this is the first chance that I have had to check out the Web Site, and it looks great! I would like to contribute somethi g about A.D. (who I had the chance to see live 3 times during the early 80's!) Now that I am of the Web, I'll send something out. The music of Streets and Shooting Star played a big part in my life in the Eighties. I have found and purchased over the net, S ooting Stars Hang On For Your Life, which I thought I would never see in my lifetime again. Now if I could only get my hands on Streets 1st. Any Suggestions. I still have Crimes In Mind on vinyl in exellent shape Nice to visit your Webpage I'LL BE BACK

Thanks a million for your Shooting Star/Kansas page. Two of the biggest under rated groups ever. I run sound for a group(Atomik Joe) out of the St. Louis area and we do alot of Shooting Star and Kansas cover tunes. We're currenly working on "Hollywood" but can't quite pull out the lyrics. So if you or anyone out there can help with them I would be grateful. Again thanks for the page

Thought I signed your Book,Steve. My suscription is on its way to you.Any word on how the Top crowd is responding to Kansas? By the way,Q-102 FM in Dallas used to do a complete instant replay immediately after the Kansas Shows. The stations D.J.s always seemed to be happy to see the guys. Allow me to back you up in public on the issue of the band doing commercial stuff on its recordings. I know most people will say they got in on Kansas from the first release. To these people,I say I wish I did too.But I must shamefacedly admit that I was attracted to Kansas by "Carry On". But Ive been with these guys for 23 years now and it still gets me when Im digging on those intricate melodies and before I know it that energy thats just below the surface takes over. Anyhow,to keep them around we must accept the changes that will have to come. The band already has a plethora of good concert material. As new stuff comes out, which of our favorites will get pushed out? I am one who is always where I am supposed to be, but never where I belong . But once I was at a Kansas Show, and at this particular moment they were doing DITW and the crowd was singing along. But more than just that,it was as if they were singing with each other too. That was the first time in a long long time I felt I was really home. I would like to do that again!

It's great to be able to now listen to the show now almost ten years later, and I have to tell you it sounds fantastic. Keep up the great work, and Carry On!!

Hey Steve! I must admit I was somewhat stunned to see someone else out there put these 2 bands together as favorites like I did. (I'll take "Rock bands with violins" for $200, Jack) Many friends knew Kansas, but none followed Shooting Star like I did. I c n recall attending at least 5 St. Louis appearances in the 80's and early 90's. I don't play my drums much anymore, but Last Chance was always my finale.(minus the timpani)

This is an excellent website. I found it via a link on Bambi Lynn's Studio homepage. I always look at the Kansas section in any store, and I was ecstatic when I found Always Never the Same. Its an superb piece of music and added greatly to my KAnsas co lection. I noticed though that you were missing a cd that I just recently purchased, Dust in the Wind, a live album. It was put out by EMI Capitol Music and has the following songs: 1. Point of Know Return, 2. Dust in the Wind, 3. Lonely Street, 4. Song or America, 5. Carry on Wayward Son, 6. Hold On, 7. Miracles out of Nowhere, 8. The Wall, 9. Paradox, 10. Down the Road. It is a very good cd for being live. I think it came out in 1992. Found it at the local Odd Lots. Keep up the good work!

I, too am a big KANSAS fan. And though I think Shooting Star had some great songs, I will proudly admit that RUSH and KANSAS are my two favorite groups. But hey, we all have our own opinions. I am kind of bummed. Kansas was to play a concert at Cardinal Stadium on June 12, 1998, after a baseball game. However, oncoming thunderstorms cancelled the event. I was really looking forward to seeing the return of Robbie Steinhart. Oh well, such is life. By the way, I am also originally from northwest Indiana. I grew up and went to Griffith High School. To I'll just post the message here and hope that you see it: Dear Kris: Thank you for signing my guest book! I'm sorry to say that currently I don't have any Kansas audio on my web page. There might be some other Kansas pages that do, but I haven't checked in a while. At the bottom of my page, there is something called the Got to Rock On web ring, which contains links to probably 10-15 other Kansas and related pages. You might want to check there. I'm really sorry to hear that your CDs were stolen. I have about 500 CDs in my collection, the product of 11+ years since I got my first CD player. If my apartment burned down, my CD collection is the only thing that would be difficult to replace. If you'd like, I could make you a cassette copy of some Kansas songs and send it to you. Also, several stores in my area sell used CDs for $7-8, sometimes a little less. I might be able to help you in getting some of your Kansas CDs replaced. Let me know if you need any help! Greetings to all. I have listened to Point of Know Return at least once a week since the albums release on vinyl. Shooting Stars first album was right behind that on my all time favorites list for about 4 or 5 years. Nice to see there are people outside o Kansas City who are as fanatical as I have been. I fondly remember Gary's big solo with his tympani 20 feet off of the ground on the speaker stacks during Last Chance, what theatrics. Nice job on the pages, Steve.

2 of my favorite bands! Great page. I am curious as to what happened to the Shooting Star biographies from Silent Scream to the present. Silent Scream is their best, without a doubt!

I just saw a car commercial on T.V. tonight. The music in the background was from SS "Last Chance" or real close to it. Does anyone know who owns the copyrights to SS songs. I did not pay any attention to what type of car it was, I was busy working on som thing else and it just hit me where that music came from. I wounder if someone in the ad campany is a shooting star fan. Also it is kinda amazing that a band form the 80's that was not quite a huge sucees would have a song in a comercial years after the h ight of their popularity... BTW great webapge, actually hearing the commercial made me search out the site...In 1983 I saw SS at the University of Missouri-Rolla, after the show I went to Taco Bell, inside eating were several of the band members eating a late meal. I got several of their autigraphs on a backstage pass....I have alwys wondered why Bassist Ron always on stage acts like he is pissed off, where he does not start playing untill after a full 30 seconds after the band has started playing, not on just one song but severla T e 6 times I have seen them in concert( not recently) Ron seems to be he wishes he was somewhere else, that he really does not care to be there. Steve, your song-by-song analysis was great! I can't believe an hour went by when I read it! You offered up some great insights into the music industry, and reading about Kansas' albums was like taking a walk down memory lane. Way to go! (By the way, I noticed that instead of listing "Sparks of the Tempest," you actually have "lightning's Hand" twice.)

Great page! I didn't discover Kansas till around the beginning of the 90's but when I did, they quickly became my favorite band. I also have most of Kerry's solo/AD albums. I must admit though that I've never heard of Shooting Star. I may have to chec them out after reading your reviews.

Great site Steve! I just got Shooting Star's Self Titled/Hang On For Your Life CD recently ( Thanks Mark Sprague!!!) and love it! I've only seen SS in concert once, back in the early 80's when they warmed up for Jefferson Starship at the Veterans Audito ium in Des Moines Iowa. It was a great show! (Shooting Star was great, Starship was so-so). Haven't seen Kansas in 7 or 8 years but always love thier shows. I'm looking forward to getting back to the mainland because my sister lives in Kansas City and hope to catch a rare Shooting Star show! Excellent research and analysis of the albums and songs. The web page is great! I just saw the band play here in Tucson last week. Steve Walsh's voice wasn't perfect, but it sounded better than I've heard in quite some time. Robbie really helps bring back the old sound. The concert marked the 20th anniversar (1 day off) from the first time I saw them play in 1977. Keep up the great page!

Steve - Hello from another Steve who is also and always has been a tremendous Kansas fan since in early 1976 when I went out and purchased both SFA and Masque on the very same day! My first time seeing them live was New Year's Eve 1976 in the Philly area. I enjoyed your reviews of all the albums and songs and I'll have to give DM a chance (although I have to admit I'm one of those for whom it just didn't seem the same after Steve's voice was gone). One review that stuck in my mind was of "Loner". I saw this one live in Ann Arbor, MI in the spring of '81 (AV tour) and the sextet was absolutely the tightest I'd ever seen them. The guys blew the roof off the place with it and brought the crowd to their feet. I remember the song this way whenever I hear it; so, next time you give it a listen, crank it! Best of Luck - Steve S

I really enjoyed the depth of the reviews, and can't wait for you to get more done. Being a big Steve Morse fan, I too was saddened by the corporate bungling which led to the MCA albums doing so poorly. I also notice you don't have anything up on Freaks of Nature yet, or the live albums. Any chance of reviews? Keep up the great work!

Ever since my ears caught on to the Kansas sound back in '77, I've been a HUGE fan. Although I've only seen the band in concert 4 times, I feel as though I have caught all of the 'evolutionary' changes of the band live, including the Drastic Measures tour with J.Elefante. Now it seems the band is coming more full circle with original members being brought back into the fold. Long Live KANSAS!!

FOund this site via the Shooting Star fan page. I've been a big fan of Kansas since "Carry On Wayward Son" hit the airwaves when I was but a lad. I was (and still am) a very HUGE Shooting Star fan (sometimes I think the only one in the New England area) I was in a band a few years ago that had a violin player, thus we did a lot of Kansas (I loved playing that stuff!) but unfortunately it is no more, so I'm back to just listening & enjoying the music of both bands.
