April 11, 2005 I begin study in the Game Design and

Development program available at IADT, Toronto.

When my admission counselor for the Game Design Program

gave me this Portfolio assignment you see below, I shared

it with a few friends and relatives.  Everyone of them

sort of gave me a "huh?" Myself on the other hand,

I had it all figured out from the get go.

Or so I thought. In actual fact I used the better

part of two months coming up with ways to represent

the three eggs.  It wasn't until two days prior to the

assignment deadline I turfed what I had and began the

Egg-Life project.

Believe it or not this type of exercise was a great

experience, so great in fact, I recommend it to anyone

who wants to broaden their way of thinking by creating

visually interesting artwork from something as simple

as an egg.

Portfolio Assignment    :    Represent three different eggs

each with one of the following

                                      properties.

                                    a.) A Normal Egg

                                    b.) A Fast Egg

                                    c.) A heavy Egg

Method    :    Using the HL2: Source engine I designed maps

                 that were essentially large staging

areas for the theme of my design.

Screenshots were used for applied box images

and complimentary labels (sidebars, bar code, ESRB rating)

were created and prepared for printing using PS:7

layout based on that of Half-Life 2 retail.

Canvas   :   Box constructed from recycled corrugated paper.

Labels printed glossy on personal photo printer.

Result   :    Recognition by program director in charge of

Game Design Diploma at IADT Toronto, and their

                scholarship review board.
