Welcome
to the Original Steve Park Website!
Back in 1997 when this site was launched,
there was no other place for Steve's fans to go to find out everything in
one place. Along with the launch of Steve's Winston Cup rookie season came
the launch of an official website. Certainly I was disappointed this site
was not the official site, but I stood by my dedication to Steve's fans to
continue to give the best coverage you came to depend on. After all, this
is the ORIGINAL!
In 1999 I was given the opportunity to write for the Official Steve Park Website. All my hard work and dedication to this site paid off! In 2000 I took over responsibilities at the official site, so my priorities switched gears. I tried to keep the site as up-to-date as humanly possible, but had to divert traffic to the official site, since I couldn't keep up both sites. I was also running Jeff Gordon and Darrell Waltrip's official sites, as well as traveling most of the summer to events throughout the east.
When Waltrip retired at the end of the 2000 season, he also retired his own personal website. Due to company cutbacks, I strictly ran Steve's website during the offseason. However, at the beginning of 2001 my partner and I took on the enormous task of completely redeveloping Jeff Gordon's massive website. The new site was launched on the eve of the tragic loss of Dale Earnhardt in Daytona, yet the praise for the new site continued to flow in. My roll in the company quickly turned more toward development, while maintaining Steve and Jeff's sites.
Unfortunately, more cutbacks forced the end of my detailed reports that fans had become accustomed to at Steve's site. The toughest decision for me was to stop updating this site due to he lack of free time I had to spend on doing it justice. I was traveling back and forth for work, while working on my eventual relocation to Atlanta. During the summer I relocated to Tennessee to get away from the big city, which kept me "on the move" even longer. Shortly after, my position there was eliminated. I want to turn my focus back to this site, but don't know how long it will take in light of having to look for work in new, strange surroundings, and with our nation in a state of flux.
I would like to thank each and every fan who has taken the time to write over the last 4 seasons. The encouragement and praise has been inspirational. I always appreciated everyone who said they enjoyed this site more than the official site, and I hoped I could bring together a bit of the best of both worlds when I went to work on it. I know that happened, as I implemented all the changes that site transformed into - going above and beyond what was expected, although my hands were often tied from going further.
So for those of you who are returning to the site, welcome back! For those of you who are new to The Original Steve Park Website - sit back, relax, and get to know one of NASCAR's rising stars. Click on any of the headings below!
In his third season on the Winston Cup Series, Steve finally accomplished what he has dreamed about all his life. In his 77th race of his career, he won his first Winston Cup race at Watkins Glen International. In addition to giving DEI another win on the season, Steve made history for DEI. They are the only team to earn more than one first-time victories in the same season. After qualifying was rained out, Park was given the 18th place starting position then won the race from further back than anyone else. He and the Pennzoil team celebrated in Victory Lane following the race their much deserved, long awaited win.
The Pennzoil team ran great in 1999 and 2000 is bound to be even better. Chevrolet rolls out their new 2000 Monte Carlo, and DEI becomes a 2-car operation in Winston Cup with the addition of Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the #8 Budweiser Chevrolet.
Steve Park fans will have even more to cheer about in 2000 as he will be running in 15 Busch Grand National in the #31 Whelen car for Marsh Racing Chevrolet.

The sun has set on what turned out to be an incredible season for Steve Park. The team struggled in the early part of the season, but after Philippe Lopez resigned as crew chief in May everything changed. Paul Andrews came on board shortly after, and for the first time in his career Steve led 84 laps that weekend in Charlotte. Since then the team only got better
and were 9th for points earned in the 2nd half of the season. Their
accomplishments landed Steve in 14th in the point
standings! Steve ran one his best races in the season finale
in Atlanta.
He came close to winning his first Winston Cup Bud Pole Award, starting
on the front row for the first time in his WC career. He took the
lead numerous times during the day, but was unable to contend for
the lead in the final stages of the race. Relive
the season from the Cup '99 page. |
1998 was a tough year for Steve and all his fans! It began with the pre-season anticipation of his rookie season in Winston Cup, and ended with his triumphant return to Atlanta for the season finale. In between was a roller-coaster ride we'll never forget. His rookie-of-the-year dreams were all but ended with his devastating crash in Atlanta prior to the 4th race of the season, but he fought back and finally returned in the Brickyard 400 in a specially painted car titled "shifting from Park to drive". Darrell Waltrip did a fabulous job of stepping into the ride while Steve was out, and brought great success to the team. Be sure to relive this fabulous season! UPDATED 1-2-99 |
