Medals
By: Francis
Since 1928 the Olympic medals have been the same.  On the front there are the Olympic rings, a Greek Goddess, the coliseum of ancient Athens, a horse drawn chariot, the year and the name of the host city.  In the ancient Olympics, winners did not recieve medals, they recieved an olive wreath to wear upon their head. second and third place were awarded nothing.  Olympic medals are 7 inches in diameter.  Today's Gold medals are not actually gold.  They are composed  of  sterling silver and covered with only 6 grams of gold. Silver medals are pure, and believe it or not the bronze is made of old pennys of the country that hosts the Olympics
