He is the Lily of the valley
a bright and morning star
His love for us is so immense
He lives within our hearts ~
With eagles' wings to fly above
all our hurt and pain
He gives us strength and courage
by the power of His name.

He was the fallen angel
a thorn within the side
Of He who has the power
to create new life ~
He stumbles and he stutters
with lies and deceit
So all the world would be caught up,
too tired or busy.

A war throughout the ages
before the dawn of time
Fighting for the souls of man
in body, heart and mind ~
The spirit of transgression,
sickness and worry
Have no place within the souls
that have already been set free.

He had his chance to mock Him
to laugh and torture Him,
He had his chance to deceive
and create a world of sin ~
But though he saw to torment
his plan then came undone
When the lily of the valley
rose with the morning sun.

No nail scars upon His hands
no spear within His side
No crown of thorns upon His head
for Jesus is alive!
He took the keys to sin and death
and paid the price for me,
And with the power of His blood
He set the captives free.

He's the lily of the valley
within a world of thorns
Though the battle for our souls
was won one early morn ~
When He rose from the grave
and into Eternity
He took away my sins and shame
because of His love for me.

"Jesus has always been known as "the lily of the valley", but in this poem I draw another parallel with satan and all evil as the "thorns"....hence this poem being called "A Lily Among the Thorns".   But in all simplicity, Jesus died for our sins so we wouldn't have to feel those "thorns" as He did.   And He did it because of His love for us."
