Icone -
our much missed Beauceron
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Icone was the first dog that was my very own, and when I married Mark they also became very attached to each other. I had researched lots of dog breeds and fallen for a breed little known outside of France: The Beauceron, or Berger de Beauce as it is actually called. Beaucerons are most commonly black and tan but I have a weakness for blue merles, which are called harlequin in this breed, and found a reputable breeder that breeds them. So I bought Icône Bleu de la Noé du Jardin and had him flown to Denmark. He was a responsive and generally well behaved boy that was easy to take just about anywhere. His one weakness was dog aggression. He could be around other males but he couldn’t be trusted loose with them. He accompanied me to Norway (bottom right photo) and Amsterdam on visits, and to shows in different parts of Northern Europe.

Icone came with us to the US and loved the open spaces. It was a terrible shock to us when he got a swelling on his nose and it turned out to be a cancer growth with little chance of treatment. We eased his swelling and pain with medicine for a few good months but finally the cancer reached a point where the most humane thing was to let him go. We still mourn the loss of our wonderful companion.
