On a visit to Arlington, Virginia, I went to see the National Zoo. I was rather disappointed by the selection of animals and the look of many of the exhibits, but they also had some neat things and great plans for future habitats.

I loved the Amazonia building. The photo above is from the entrance area.

The Cheetah to the left was doing what the big cats do most during the day - lying around! Majestic animal, isn't it?

They also have a pair of the endangered Sumatran tiger.

The Small Mammal House had some interesting species.

Check out their
website for more information.
Naturally I loved the elefant baby. Who wouldn't? He is 23 months old in this picture.
The elephants had a nice, big pile of fresh, yellow sand to play in. Fun, fun, fun! Even Mom took part in the frolic. So what does an elephant baby do? Try to sit on her head, of course!
When Mom is busy doing something else the baby plays with his other toys and practises using his trunk and his legs.
The spectacled bears were given some fresh fruits and vegetables and ate them with deliberate care. They had what seemed to be a nice, big enclosures.
The National Zoo has a pair of giant pandas! They had just been given fresh bamboo when I came by. Their outdoor exhibit is pretty big but fortunately one of them settled down close to the viewing area. The other one is further back to the left.
Their indoor enclosure was accessible to visitors and quite nice too, but I didn't get a picture.
As we (the visitors) were standing by the sloth bear exhibit, one of them walked over to the wall and settled down for a nap. In contrast, the other one kept pacing.
