THE NEW RED AND GOLD ARMOR
      Following the destruction of his red and silver armor by Firepower during the first Armor War, Tony Stark created a new battle suit that dwarfed even Firepowers extraordinary capabilities. In the outward appearance of the new model harked back to Iron Man's traditional red and gold colors. However, in making the new armor look so different from the red and silver model, Stark was also hoping to convince the public that the "new" Iron Man was different than the one that Firepower destroyed: in actuality "both" Iron Man were really the original, Tony Stark himself.

      Stark's new medical problems required substantial changes to his armor maintaining it's new outward look. When he was shot by Kathy Dare, for a time Starks legs were paralized; he installed servo-motors in the armor to allow him to move them. The implanted microchip that restored his mobility turned out to be a techno-organic parasite that attaked his nervous system. Hence, Stark began using a robotic Iron Man suit that he guided by cybernetic remote control. Eventually Stark developed an electro-mesh body suit that enabled him to control his nervous system, which he then wore inside his Iron Man armor.
