The following list is not to be considered exhaustive. It presents only a select grouping of the major Churches within the Orthodox Communion having a "Web presence." Some Churches do not have web sites, and others are represented by "Mother" Churches listed here. The Churches listed beneath numbered Autocephalus (literally, 'self-headed,' or independent) Churches either are under the jurisdiction of the Church beneath which they are listed, or else have an historic connection to that Church. The presented order of listing should not be considered significant.
Additionally, there are a number of Ancient Churches, not currently in communion, with the Rum Orthodox Churches. ("Rum" - literally, "Roman" - is the traditional ascription for what is today often called the Greek Orthodox.) These "Oriental" or "Non-Chalcedonian" Churches include the Armenian Apostolic, Coptic Orthodox, Ethiopian Orthodox, and Syrian Orthodox Churches and others. While there currently does not exist full communion between these Churches and the main body of Orthodox Churches, there does exist a dignity of dialogue and courtesy indicative of sister churches who, God willing, will one day soon be fully reunited.
If you intend to visit an Orthodox parish and are uncertain concerning the "communion" status between that Church and your own, speak with your priest or the priest of the parish in question for additional information.
