A recent bi-centennial Jewel from Straid Lodge No. 276. - Ballyclare, Co. Antrim. Originally warrented as 923 in 1802; exchanged for 276 in 1825. Meetings held on the Wednesday on of before the full moon. |
Masonic Fact - In years gone by, Masonic Lodges used to parade through the streets. Attending Church services etc. The lower the Lodge number, the higher up the parade you were. If Warrants were returned, other Lodges would apply for it , if it were a lower number. |

Masonic Fact - On or after St. John's Day when Lodges Installed their Officer's, some would parade to the place of their Festive Board. After having participated of the 'good thing's in life', they would then parade back to their Masonic Hall for Masonic Toasts, stories, poems, salutations and finally close the Meeting. |
Two Jewels from the Lodge of research No.200. Again submitted from Wor. Bro. K.H. (Thanks Kai). Constituted in Dublin in 1914, the Lodge was founded for the association of Installed Masters who are subscribing members of Lodges under the Irish Constitution, to encourage research into the History, Antiquities, Symbols and Ceremonies of the Order. The Lodge meets 4 times a year on Saturdays in Dublin, Belfast and other Centres. |
The Jewel on the left was presented to R.W. Bro. W.J. O'Brien, W.M. 1964, for merit. |

Another contribution from W. Bro. Kai H. These are a Founder & Member Jewels of Waterloo Lodge No.571. The 1st King's Dragoon Guards. The Warrant was approved by the G L of I on 03/12/1923 with a list of 28 Founding members. The Lodge was Constituted in Cologne (Germany) on St. John's Day 24/06/1924 with the first W.M. being John Bowers. The submission for a members Jewel was received by G L of I on 25/05/1925. The Lodge had a membership of 197 Brethren by Dec 1951. In 1959 the Lodge changed it's name to The 1st Queen's Dragoon Guards. Approval of revised Members Jewel was approved on 18/02/1959. The Warrant was unfortunately returned in 1985. |
Masonic Fact - The Grand Lodge of Ireland is the only Grand Lodge to re-issue Warrants. Hence, at present, the highest Lodge number is 1020. |
A PM Jewel from Hibernian Lodge No. 95, Cork. Submitted by Wor. Bro. John G. Founder Member of Jewels of the Craft. The inscription reads: ' Presented by the Officers and Members of Hibernian Lodge No. 95 - Cork to Bro. Robert Butcher WM & PM on his retiring from the Chair St. Johns Day Dec. 27th 1859 - John Bowen MM Sec. |
Warrant No. 95 was issued to the brethren in CASHEL, Co. TIPPERARY, 1st Dec. 1738. On 1st Aug. 1771 G.L. of Ireland register shows a new heading, 'No.95, CORK.' The Warrant being suspended on 1st Oct. 1857, it was restored on 6th May 1858 as No.95 CORK, Co. CORK, 'Hibernian Lodge' a name that it holds to this day. |
Another contribution from Wor. Bro. John G. A Founder members Jewel from Lodge DV (505) 1921. The Warrant was originally issued to Brethren of Saint Johnstown (i.e. Ballinalee) Co. Longford on 2nd Sept. 1773 The Warrant was cancelled on 7th Jan. 1830. Re-issued to Rathmines Lodge in Freemasons Hall, Molesworth St., Dublin on 8th June 1921. There were 17 founding members (So this is one of only 17 Jewels issued). Unfortunately the Warrant of 505 was returned to Grand Lodge in 1972, the Brethren amalgamating with Centenary Lodge No.117. Centenary Lodge in turn returned their Warrant in 1976 and amalgamated with Dublin Lodge No.500. |
A contribution from Wor. Bro. Kai H. St. Andrew Lodge No.469, Freemasons' Hall, Rosemary Street, Belfast. Removed from Donegall Square South in 1956. The Lodge was Constituted on 8th October 1919. This Jewel was issued as part of their 75th Anni. Celebrations in 1994. Originally Constituted as Drogheda, Co. Louth on 7th July 1769, the Warrant was cancelled in 1813 and re-issued in Wellington, New Zealand on 5th October 1882. The Warrant was again cancelled in 1890 when the Lodge joined the Grand Lodge of New Zealand |
Thanks again to Wor. Bro. Kai H. Issued to the Brethren in the Queens Royal Irish Regiment of Foot on 2nd December 1762 the Warrant was cancelled in 1815. Reissued to 'South Carolina Lodge' in the West India Regiment 27th Oct 1905. 2nd October 1905 - 'Recommended by three Lodges under the E.C.' The G.L. of I. was at this time was the only Grand Lodge to issue 'Travelling Warrants'. Why South Carolina Lodge? During the American war of Indepedence, a B.E.F from New York captured the State of Georgia. As a result, Loyalists flocked to the British camp where they were formed into a number of Corps, the South Carolina Corps being one of them. In 1927 the West India Regiment was disbanded and the Warrant surrendered to Grand Lodge. The Warrant was re-issued to South Carolina Lodge in KINGSTON, JAMAICA on 16th December 1927. (165 years after the original). |

Warrant No.19 (XIX) issued to 'Emerald Isle Lodge' in The 1st Battalion Connaught Rangers, the 88th Foot, on 12th March 1907. There were 15 Founding members. The 1st Battalion of the 88th Connaught Regiment was in 1905 stationed in Mullingar, where several of the regiment were members of Leinster Lodge No.131. As arrangements for the Consecration of the Lodge were being considered, the Battalion received orders to move to Malta. With consent of the Grand Masters of the E. & I. Constitutions, the new Lodge was Consecrated in the Masonic Hall, Senglea on 22nd April 1907 under the direction of the District G.M. of the E.C. Wor.Bro. Bandmaster I.E. Keely was installed 1st W.M., Lt. Col. H.T. Chamier, Commanding Officer of the Batallion as S.W. & Major A.G.V. Chichester as J.W. After moves to India & Pakistan, the Lodge returned to Dublin on 27th April 1993, after Masonry was prohibited in Pakistan. The Lodge still meets today. |
Issued to Brethren to form 'Lodge Ireland 2000' - an Internet Lodge. Memorial by Lodges 683 (Anahilt, Hillsborough), 703 (Spa, Ballynahinch), and 874 (Sirron, Balaris), together with the Provincial Grand Master and The Prov. Deputy Grand Master of the Province of Down. The Lodge was Constituted on the 10th June 2000 by the Grand Master in Dublin. |
