St. Johns Masonic Lodge No. 788 meet here at our hall on the Brustin Brea Road in Cairncastle, Co. Antrim on the Friday on or before the full moon.

It is said that this ancient custom dates back to times when gentlemen of the lodge may have needed to travel long distances, either on foot or horseback, to attend their meetings. As these meetings (or the festivities afterwards) may well have run into the hours of darkness the light of the full moon was a welcome guide for those with a long homeward journey before them.
As can be seen from the map of the area Cairncastle is situated on the coast of Antrim not far from the port of Larne and our lodge draws its membership from all over the surrounding area. |
