We are blessed to have the Stained Glass windows from two churches. The
windows in the church are St. Lukes and were installed in the 1950's when
the church was built. The windows in the walkway and the Parish Hall came
from All Saints' and were installed in the 1970's. Some of our windows are
signed originals by artists who are no longer with us. All of our windows
are very valuable by today's standards. Regardless of their value, they
add to the beauty of our worship.
|
Stained Glass windows are held together with lead. Over time, and with
the heat of summer and the cold of winter the lead softens and repairs are
required. While most of our windows need some repair, two windows are critical.
|
The Rose window (the large round window) at the back of the church is close to
falling apart. You can see how it is bowed by standing below it and looking up.
Since the window has no plexi-glass covers, if the window falls, it will break.
|
The second critical window is at the top of the stairs in the Parish Hall. That
window is protected by plexi-glass and as pieces loosen, they slide down
without breaking.
|
The Vestry trusts that the Capital Campaign will raise the $15,000 for the
critical repairs and any additional funds will be used to repair as many
windows as possible.
|
We have signed a contract with Whipple and the repairs will begin in May.
The windows will be removed and totally restored during the next three months.
