Part One
Hiei was heading for the Ningekai. Although he may never admit it, but he was bored in the Makai. As fro Ningekai . . . Well, there's always Kurama, it's never boring with that crazy fox.
Hiei was about to enter a gate when it started. It came so suddenly that only the fire demon’s instincts and speed saved him from a deadly blow. The energy of the dimension gate was so strong that it covered the youki of these demons that ambushed him. So Hiei wasn’t able to descry them earlier.
The fire demon drew out his katana and proceed to turn the attacking youkais into mince. He was cutting, riposting, avoiding from thrusts and wondering what's going on. Why were these youkais attacking him? Was it a trap? Almost the assassins were A-class youikais; therefore, Hiei required all his power to deal with them. It wasn’t long before the orpses of the assassins lay dead by the clearing of the Ningenkai gateway. However, it had not been an easy win for Hiei. The usual black tank top and pants hanged in shreds, deep wounds and lot of indifferent ones covered Hiei’s bloody body. Hiei rubed down his katana and jumped through the gate.
Hiei hurried to Kurama's house, streaking from tree to tree, slightly wincing with pain. Hiei was about jump to the next branch, when he heard a shout.
"Shuichi, look out!"
Hiei stopped instantly, 'cos Kurama's ningen name is Shuichi. The fire demon looked in direction where he heard the shout. No, it wasn't Kurama, but it was his ningen brother. The young boy was lying on the roadway. He seemed to have tripped and fell on the road, but what’s worse was that a car was heading directly for the boy.
The fire demon cursed silently and streaked towards the ningen boy...

"No, no, no! He isn't!" Shuichi Hatanaka quickly turned to face his friend. "I can beat him easily. In this game, I'm a professional!"
"But Sakujiku said the same," Shuichi's friend smiled archly. "So how we'll find out who's the real master?"
"Tomorrow," answered Shuichi, "Tomorrow or day after tomorrow we (me and Sakujiku) . . . we will be fighting 'Mortal Combat' on my Nintendo. You can come too, and believe me, in this game I am better him."
Shuichi smiled proudly. Yes, it is true. He is one of the best players of different Nintendo's games in Tokyo. Not for naught, had he spent that much time in front of the screen.
"Are you sure that you'll win?" his friend asked.
"Yes, I'm sureeeee... Ouch!!!" Shuichi tripped on the footpath and fell down, sprawling on the road.
"Shuichi, look out!!!" His friend cried out.
The boy lifted his head from the bitumen and came face to face with the headlights of a car rushing directly at him. His eyes became wide. Shuichi was so scared that he lost his control over his mussels, even if he hadn’t there wouldn’t have been time to get out of the car’s way. He was just about to say goodbye to his life, when suddenly…
A dark shape flashed past his eyes, and Shuichi felt that something or someone had picked him up from the road throwing him down on the sidewalk across the street. The car speeded past . . . The fearful boy looked up and has met the most strange pair of eyes that he ever saw in his whole life. They were red. No, to be exact, they were ruby and they belonged to a boy with black hair and white starburst.
Shuichi stared dizzily at the ruby depths, starting to understand that this boy that's lying atop of him was the one who pushed him off the road and saved his life . . . While Shuichi was still sitting dumb struck on the pavement, his savior was gone in black flash.
"Are you all right?" Shuichi's friend asked, approaching closer.
The boy slowly looked up at his friend and said nothing.
"Oh, my God! Shuichi-san you’re bleeding!"
Shuichi looked at his T-shirt where he found a fresh bloodstain.
"It is not mine," he said in a low voice. "I'm all right."
'It's the blood of that boy with the ruby eyes,' he noted to himself. He lifted himself from the pavement and shook the dust from his clothes. Shuichi said goodbye to his friend and hobbled back home. His knees were hurting, because they were scratched. Wincing slightly from the pain, Shuichi wondered whether it was needful to tell his parents about it.
'No,' he thought. 'No, 'kaasan and 'tousan will be worried. Maybe, it's better to talk to 'niisan? Besides, he'll help me to wash my T-shirt and do something with scratched knees.'
Shuichi was still shaky from the incident. It's good that 'kaasan and 'tousan are out. Putting his school bag on a sofa, Shuichi went to his brother's room. 'He must be home now', Shuichi thought as he pushed open the door to his stepbrother’s room . . .
