Today was a return trip to Twin Cities Raceway for the St.Myers Racing Team after heavy rains washed out the show at Eldora. Coming off last night's win at Limaland, the team was anxious to get back to the track and try to make it two in a row. Twenty-four Modifieds signed in to join the USAC Sprint Cars for the program.
A good draw put Doug on the pole of the first heat race. On the green, Doug and the 37 of J.D. Francis raced side by side for a couple laps until the 37 slipped and Doug took over the top spot and started pulling away. The 36, (driver unknown) came up to battle with Francis and opening night feature winner Nelson Gingery in the 15 started on the tail, but was soon moving his way up through the field to fourth. Doug took the checkered and Francis held the runner up spot.
Heat two was won by the 95 of Randy Petro, and heat three by the 99 of Brent Londeree.
Lining up the feature straight up put Doug and Petro on the front row. Doug took the early lead, but early cautions kept the field tightly bunched, and attrition took over in a hurry as Francis went out at lap 2 and Petro went out with a broken axle at lap 3. This moved the 99 of Brent Londeree up to the second spot. Lap seven produced a pass for the lead as the 99 went under Doug on the low side in turns one and two. Doug chased the 99 as the 4S kept getting tighter and tighter as the race went on. The 71 of King and the 0 of Lee Hobbs started mid pack and had moved themselves up to the third and fourth spots. Doug done a good job holding off the repeated challenges of King as the 99 of Londeree took checkered flag and Doug came home second. King held off Hobbs for the third spot.
It was a good weekend for the St.Myers Racing Team. The car just keeps getting better, and Doug is driving very well. Gas City I-69 Speedway is the tentative plan for the 4S this coming Friday night for their season opener. Keep checking back for further updates!
